....what would they buy?

OP posts:
QueenofLouisiana · 14/07/2019 10:13

A gaming PC, a plane ticket to New York.

TheFallenMadonna · 14/07/2019 10:13

My 17 yo would travel I think.
For his 18th we are paying for a trip for him as he can't think of anything he wants Hmm

Somersetlady · 14/07/2019 10:14

Hopefully a car for them to use when they could drive?

LifeOfBox · 14/07/2019 10:14

Depends on what age really. My 13 year old receives £1000 a year from grandparents, has been 'saving for a car' since she was 9 😂.

thebookeatinggirl · 14/07/2019 10:16

My 16 year old DD would want to buy an electric scooter, but I wouldn't let her. She'd then probably save it for when she can travel or get a car. 15 year old DS would splurge on trainers and computing stuff then save the rest for a car.

BlackForestCake · 14/07/2019 10:22

It boggles the mind that people are still being brought up to believe that they should have a car.

Cocolapew · 14/07/2019 10:22

A tattoo.
A provisional license and driving lessons.
Clothes and trainers.
A trip to the hairdresser.

AyahuascaTrip · 14/07/2019 10:26

A new saddle, a night out (or two).

AyahuascaTrip · 14/07/2019 10:26

Wait. My last teenager is now twenty! 😧

Gingerkittykat · 14/07/2019 10:27

Driving lessons and test, which could probably eat up most of that £2000.

Possibly a new phone, I think the Samsung S9 or 10 or whatever number they are up to now.

Soola · 14/07/2019 10:28

My son bought a bicycle for £1,800 when he turned 18. He’s still got it now he’s 24 and uses it daily. He does maintain it and has it serviced.

LifeOfBox · 14/07/2019 10:30

Do you live somewhere with fantastic public transport BlackForestCake? We don't, the bus to York (25 miles) is three times a day and takes 1 hour 45 minutes.

TheRedBarrows · 14/07/2019 10:34

Inter-railing ticket and hostel accommodation (just spent £1000 saved up to do that)

A few items of clothing maybe. And some ‘going out’ pocket money.

But otherwise most would go into savings.

Kez200 · 14/07/2019 10:39

One would have bought and phone or mac, if they didnt have one at the time. Or saved it.

The other would have blown 100 in the computer games online sale and saved the rest

INeedToGetHealthy · 14/07/2019 10:52

My 15 yo DS2 would most probably just keep it in a wallet in his room. He gets money for looking after DS3 if we need to go out and he has no desire to spend it on anything. We ask if he needs new trainers etc only for him to reply "nah, these ones are ok".

marialuisa · 14/07/2019 10:52

Travel

WTFthatsweird · 14/07/2019 10:53

I had that when I was 18.
I was drunk every night for a year and bought a massive pair of flares which my hamsters chewed up and used for bedding.

My kids won't be getting their savings until
They are 21

whiteroseredrose · 14/07/2019 10:55

Mine would travel

Frith2013 · 14/07/2019 10:58

Overseas travel and a car.

MonstranceClock · 14/07/2019 11:00

I spent that in a day when I was 18. My children won't be getting any savings until they're 25.

m0therofdragons · 14/07/2019 11:20

@BlackForestCake do you live in a city? I'm
Assuming you don't live near me in the West Country as you wouldn't suggest living without a car when public transport is this bad Grin

BearSoFair · 14/07/2019 11:32

Fender Jaguar guitar definitely, and he'd probably see what kind of Macbook he could get with the rest.

AuntieMarys · 14/07/2019 11:36

Mine would put it in his mortgage account Grin

Kerberos · 14/07/2019 11:41

Mine would buy Hozier tickets. She's upset I won't pay scalpers £110 for resales when the original tickets were £40.

Other than that her needs are usually met. She'd probably save the rest.

Pipandmum · 14/07/2019 11:45

He’d be torn between getting a (motorcycle) scooter or fancy bike or travel. He’ll be getting £3k at 18 from his child trust fund...
