It's interesting that many people don't realise that public transport in many areas is practically non existent. Cars are a necessity.

One of my teenagers would spend £1000 on computers and definitely travel, they're desperate to go to Rome and Stockholm.

The other would save it towards a car.

Ds1 is sensible and would put it in his savings for when his car insurance is up for renewal.

Ds2 would spend it all in JD sports

Ds3 would spend it in fortnite skins

I just asked mine.

17 year old said she'd buy her provisional. Pay for a crash course. Get her hair done and spend the rest on clothes and make up.

16 year old said.. buy some parts for his bike then get on a train to London and go clothes shopping.

14 year old said she'd buy clothes/make up/ shoes and save the rest.

I saved up that amount at 17. As soon as I turned 18 I quit my part-time job and blew it all that summer on tattoos and getting pissed (it was a bloody brilliant summer but I would recommend something much more sensible, like driving lessons, in hindsight)

Not sure really. DS is earning- albeit an apprenticeship- but he gets enough to give us some housekeeping, buy clothes, social life and has saved for his holiday.

He had around £6k savings available to him at 18. He won't be going to uni so this will be for car/insurance or for when he wants to move out. He's not touched it yet - and the car he was so keen on a few months back, along with the driving lessons, seems to have gone down in importance to him since he's discovered legal drinking,

Interesting answers- thank you. Fil left all his grandchildren some money for when they were 28- some with strict instructions to spend on things they wanted and some to put aside for university or something serious line that. Ds has bought a synth and a camera and I suspect there will be a a lot of going put for the rest of the summer!

What’s yours doing Bert?

TheRedBarrows · 14/07/2019 12:21

Sorry: cross posted.

Good spends!

It amazes me the arrogance of people who live in cities or big towns who are adamant people don’t need cars.
My family home is several miles down a single track road in the remote highlands. It would take hours to walk to a bus stop and most cab companies won’t go there.

Reading festival ticket for the Saturday, travel and hotel for reading festival, travel and hotel for Leeds festival for the Sunday ticket he already bought. All the twentyone pilots merchandise he dosent already own.

@AuntieMarys

LOL - we joke that our eldest was born middle aged (he's 22 now). He would have put it in his mortgage account.

The joke is on us now that he's now got £12k saved up and has been in uni for the last four years. I wish I had his sensible head, he doesn't get it from either of us.

“LOL - we joke that our eldest was born middle aged (he's 22 now). He would have put it in his mortgage account.”

Ds is as likely to do that as fly. But if he’d tried he would have had ilhis grandma on his case demanding to know what he’d bought!
