What is a good 'big' present for a 10 year old?

DD is 10 soon and hasn't asked for much in the way of presents. We would like to get her something big that she will get a lot of use out of. A trampoline would be ideal but we have 2yo DS who would also be desperate to use it and it isnt safe until he is 4. Something that would encourage her to be outdoor and active would be ideal but any ideas welcome! She has a bike and scooter. We have a decent sized garden to accommodate larger toys.

Thanks for the other suggestions! Shes got a guitar and keyboard.

Sorry to disappoint team trampoline but I'm not going to make a rod for my own back by buying every 2 year olds dream and then tell him he can only watch. Poor deprived DD will just have to struggle on by without a trampoline she hasn't even asked for

Mine had a Green Machine at that age and loved it.

DS1 got an iPad mini for his 9th birthday last year but it was a combined present from everyone in my family.

Skates? My soon-to-be ten-year-old loves her skates.

My DD's big present is going to be an animal experience morning at a local college + probably also with a large pokemon plush, thankfully she's already been very forgiving that the jigglypuff one she wants has been out of stock from Build a Bear for weeks now...

A smart watch. That will encourage her to be active.

@Littleblurry thanks for the info. I'm with you on this now. I will delay buying one for a few years, especially cause I have a clumsy child!

I think trampoline boat has passed a little for 10 year old anyway.

The two-year old would struggle to bounce at all on proper trampoline by himself because of the weight!

Op at that age we gave dd 100 and let her spend it on what she wanted in toy shop. It was amazing for her, the pure freedom to buy etc.

My mum sees soooo many little kids with trampolining injuries in her job. More than bikes or falling off the sofa! Some quite serious. She's not a fan.

I bought my daughter riding lessons for her 10th but not great if you don't want ongoing costs. Other things that please her are tickets to West End shows, experience things like a sailing day.

Mine very rarely wants things, she prefers doing something. So even taking her to a fancy restaurant where she has to dress up a bit works. Also, embroidery kits are a massive winner as far as mine is concerned for something fairly small www.johnlewis.com/nancy-nicholson-cat-cushion-embroidery-kit/p3340496

@Littleblurry never heard of a 2 year old getting seriously hurt on a trampoline? My DN has used one since she could walk and shes 10, my DD also had one from 2 years

Littleblurry · 12/07/2019 18:51

Thank you for more great ideas everyone.

Babasclover - glad I started this thread now. I had no idea about how dangerous they were for younger kids until it happened to my cousins kid and I did some research. More awareness would be great.

HJWT - just because you know 2 kids that used them and haven't been hurt doesn't mean they are safe. A quick Google of trampoline injury statistics will show you they are dangerous
