Bin Day - CF Neighbours

hawleybits · 11/07/2019 10:57

I always put my wheelie bin out the night before collection. Just nipped out the back to add something to the bin, to be met with an overwhelming stench. On closer inspection, CF neighbours have dumped a large plastic bag full of nappies in my bin.

I'm very careful about recycling and try not to put plastic in my bin, and I also clean it! so I'm a bit taken aback. I noticed neighbour's bin is full, so obviously just put it in mine instead.
It just neighbours and myself- no other bins in our area...I'm really cross!

I would mention something when you next see them. What if you had enough to fill your bin this morning?

raspberryk · 11/07/2019 11:01

Are you for real? It's about to be emptied, what possible difference would it make to you? Not like they came in your garden and filled up your bin with nappies the day it was emptied. Get a life.

SarahSinclair · 11/07/2019 11:01

Yeh I get why you’re cross but at the end of the day it’s going to be taken away never to be seen again regardless of who’s bin it’s in. But yeh it is annoying that they’ve done it but at the same time, does it really matter?

(P.S, I’m assuming thought that it’s in your general waste, rather than plonked in your recycling, when it clearly isn’t recyclable?)

SuzieQ10 · 11/07/2019 11:03

It's not really a big deal is it.
Just leave it.

Better they put the bin bag in a lidded bin than left it on the pavement for foxes and rodents to rip open, like people do in my area.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 11/07/2019 11:04

If you hadn’t have had to nip out to put something else in you’d never have known. Perhaps they do this a lot and you’ve been living your life completely unaffected all this time. I agree nappies in bins are gross (especially around here, fortnightly collection! Main motivation for using cloth nappies 😄). Why didn’t they just put an extra bin bag on the ground next to their bin? Weird.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 11/07/2019 11:05

Meant to say nappies in bins are gross but there’s not much of an alternative really unless you’d prefer them to burn them (probably not legal!)

hawleybits · 11/07/2019 11:17

Fortnightly collection here too and it's also very warm. Nappies absolutely stink and I know it's about to be emptied, but I don't want their stinking nappies I'm my bin.
They're CF's in many other ways too, so this is just another in the long list...dumping stuff in my garden waste bin being another, but that's been dealt with.
I know I sound bin obsessed, but why can't people just use their own bins Hmm

beckycharlie · 11/07/2019 11:24

I'd mention it as I have nappies in my bin and it constantly stinks but that's due to my child, my neighbours are fine with me putting things in theirs the night before collection but there's no way I'd throw a bag of stinky nappies in there!

Fleetheart · 11/07/2019 11:24

Honestly, it’s no big deal. Maybe you are pissed off with them about other stuff, but really “neighbour puts stuff in bin about to be emptied”, is not much of a thing to have a dispute about.

kirkandpetal · 11/07/2019 11:26

Put your wheelie bin out in the morning instead.

colourlessgreenidea · 11/07/2019 11:52

I don't want their stinking nappies I'm my bin.

Why don’t you want smelly things in your bin? Do you spend a lot of time sniffing the inside of your bin?

Bins are for stinky stuff that no one wants. That’s why it’s been thrown out, and that’s why it all gets taken away.

hawleybits · 11/07/2019 12:10

I recycle carefully and actually don't have stinky stuff in my bin. Who wants a foul smelling bin in their garden, especially when it isn't a huge space?
Maybe I am fussy...

What?Confused

What difference does it make? We all put things in each others' bins if our own are full here. No big deal.

Soola · 11/07/2019 12:17

Op, I’m with you. It would piss me off. Suppose in the morning when you added more to your bin there wasn’t enough space as the nappies were there?

The neighbours should have knocked and said their bin was full and would you mind if they added to yours if there was room.

It’s arrogant to dump their shit in your bin.

HeadsDownThumbsUpEveryone · 11/07/2019 12:21

I recycle carefully and actually don't have stinky stuff in my bin.

Unless they have put it into your recycling bin I don't see why the fact you recycle makes a difference? Bins are for stuff that smells and I completely refuse to believe that you have nothing in your bin that is 'stinky'. With fortnightly collections its inevitable that the bin is going to have stuff in it that smells.

If you don't want them using your bin and you don't want to confront them then get a bin lock. At the end of the day if I had room left and their waste had been properly bagged I would have no qualms over letting them use the space in my bin, surely that's better than leaving them with a bag of dirty nappies for another 2 weeks?

Disfordarkchocolate · 11/07/2019 12:23

Get a bin lock and chill out, to be honest, it wouldn't bother me if there was room. Nappies next to the bin would be far far worse.

FrogFairy · 11/07/2019 12:27

Don’t your council do nappy collections?

Ours supply yellow sacks and collect separately to normal refuse.

flowersWB · 11/07/2019 12:33

Fortnightly collections when you've got a baby in nappies is a nightmare. I'd maybe try and have some empathy for your neighbours. If they've run out of space in their own bin and face the prospect of hanging on to shitty nappies for two more weeks, then putting their bag in your presumably half full bin seems reasonable. Personally I'd have asked you first, but sounds like there are other issues that might have made that tricky

jomaIone · 11/07/2019 12:36

Fair enough they smell now but they get taken away today... No more smell surely?

LoafofSellotape · 11/07/2019 12:36

Lucky you, ours barely collect our household rubbish and are pushing for 3 weekly collections.

Orangeyougladitsme · 11/07/2019 13:35

Just get a bin lock that opens automatically when the bin is tipped by the lorry.
I personally don't have an issue with people using my bin because it's general waste only round here, collected weekly and my bin is rarely completely full. However, I do wash my bin out on occasion because I cannot stand that awful stench that hits you when you open a dirty bin. My neighbours used to put everything in theirs including unbagged dog shit and you could easily tell when they'd popped out to their bin because the smell was revolting. They did have the bin cleaners round eventually (for a tenner a month you can have nice clean fresh smelling wheelie bins)

Pinktinker · 11/07/2019 13:36

This is really strange. Why are you so bothered about a filthy germ ridden outdoor bin?

stucknoue · 11/07/2019 13:39

Poor family don't have enough bin space for nappies due to council cut backs. If it's the night before what's the harm

purplecorkheart · 11/07/2019 13:50

If it does bother you, you can get a lock called a tilt and turn lock. You can lock it when you want and it opens when the bin lorry turns the bin upside down. My parents have one as they pay by weight of bin and people where dumping loads of heavy bags into their bin rather than paying for their own.
