I don’t know but it’s very easy to make. Next time you roast a chicken, after taking off the meat you are having for that meal, put the carcass in a pan, cover with water, add onions, carrots, potato, salt n pepper, mixed herbs. Simmer until all the meat falls off the bones. Strain and remove bones. Put veg back in and use a blender.

It's just chicken stock. I assume you've got an American recipe to follow.

Synecdoche · 10/07/2019 20:12

You can buy bags of liquid stock in the gravy section of the supermarket, if you don't want to make it yourself.

ShakeYourTailFeathers · 10/07/2019 20:13

Knorr sell it in cubes Grin

No broth is different to stock.

Ocado have both chicken and beef bone broth in the freezer section

theorchidwhisperer · 10/07/2019 20:32

Broth is different to stock. To make broth you have to simmer for 48hours! It's so the bone marrow dissolves into the cooking liquid.

I think stock can be made in much less time.

I haven't seen bone broth for sale as an instant item but you can readily buy stock in tins or cartons.

Springfern · 10/07/2019 21:06

Farmers market. They used to sell bone broth in Pet (certain Shoreditch branches) It's great for fertility!

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 10/07/2019 21:09

So when American recipes say broth, all those people go and simmer a carcass for 48hrs?? Or can you buy ready made versions over there?

Incidentally, the word 'broth' sounds about 100 times nicer than stock. Ditto juice box, heavy cream, popsicle. They did get fish sticks wrong though.

managedmis · 10/07/2019 21:10

I'm sorry but making broth or stock isn't easy

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 10/07/2019 21:10

Frosting also sounds better than icing.

ShakeYourTailFeathers · 10/07/2019 21:21

You can buy it ready made in cartons in the supermarket, but it's just stock, nothing fancy about it

PolarBearOnARaft · 10/07/2019 21:24

Making stock is very easy. When I hear brother I think soup like ham broth.

Grumpelstilskin · 10/07/2019 22:12

Broth and stock are not the same. Especially home-made broth will go thick, i.e. gelatinous once it cools down due to the gelatine released by long-simmering bones. Chicken broth won’t need quite as long as beef bone broth but should simmer at least 8-10 hours. My local butchers will sell feet and chicken carcasses for a pound a kilo. I tend to roast the bones for a little bit and then chuck it in a slow cooker with just a bit of salt and pepper.

Grumpelstilskin · 10/07/2019 22:13

And obviously water! Grin

HouseOfMouse · 10/07/2019 22:21

You can buy ready-made chicken broth from Ocado or Planet Organic (and Waitrose, I think). Some butchers will also sell it.

Unescorted · 10/07/2019 22:25

48 hours … that is a stock. Alternatively do it in a pressure cooker. Takes about an hour.

Whatdoyoumeme · 10/07/2019 22:33

I make chicken broth every week. The key to getting the gelatinous consistency is chicken feet. I buy them from the butchers with carcasses. Boil the feet for 15 mins then Blanch them and remove the skin. Roast the bones for 30 mins. Put in a pot and cover with water. I add 2 celery sticks, a carrot, 2 onions with cloves studded in them. Bring to the boil, simmer for 8 hours until the bones are soft. Strain and cool. Refrigerate over night and it will be like jelly by the morning.

IHaveBrilloHair · 10/07/2019 22:35

What are you making?

dellacucina · 10/07/2019 22:37

Americans use these terms more or less interchangeably. I would avoid cubes though.

mindutopia · 10/07/2019 22:39

In America, they are the same thing. Just buy regular fresh stock from the store.

SignOnTheWindow · 10/07/2019 22:56

@Grumpelstiltskin I can get the jelly effect from simmering a chicken carcass for 4 hours. Does longer simmering mean the jelly ends up firmer when the broth is cooled?

buttertoasty · 10/07/2019 22:59

Waitrose sell it in bags
