Is this fat? Photo included

So I’ve always had a thing about my legs, it’s where I carry the most weight but from the side they look huge .., but I’d that normal?

I can grab some fat on it but it almost doesn’t seem like loads?

OP posts:
Orangeballon · 08/07/2019 17:20

It is fat, you need to start walking to build some muscle.

Tistheseason17 · 08/07/2019 17:29

With a small waist don't worry about this. First thing I noticed was no belly overhang. The belly is the area to worry about.

Get out and do some walking if you want to tone up. I have great legs from walking but a jelly belly - I'd kill for your slender waist!

justasking111 · 08/07/2019 17:40

Size 6 and still had the thighs of a rugby player. Genetics do play a part.

PerpendicularVincent · 08/07/2019 19:06

I don't see how the twatty posters saying 'yes, it's fat' are helping. Cheers for that useful insight Hmm.

Honestly OP, your legs just look like normal legs. You aren't fat, but exercising and toning up may make you feel a bit better? I agree with the couch to 5k suggestion, it's really helped me.

This thread could make you feel like shit though, try not to take any unkind comments to heart.

This is the title of the OP's thread: Is this fat? Photo included How exactly is answering her question being 'twatty'? She asked a very simple question, which people have answered (some not very nicely, it's true).

PerpendicularVincent · 08/07/2019 19:30

Because it doesn't help. Realistically, most people asking questions like this need constructive responses - not just 'yes, you're fat'.

A 'yes, maybe you need to tone up/lose a bit of weight and here are my suggestions' would be far better.

NameChangeNugget · 08/07/2019 19:32

I agree @zafferana

Bluntness100 · 08/07/2019 19:34

Op, what's the point of this? You'll have a bunch of people trying to flatter you and a bunch of people being honest.

Yes you have heavier legs. You're clearly pear shaped. You know this. 🤷‍♀️

Sagradafamiliar · 08/07/2019 19:39

It's just the way your weight distributes itself on your body, OP. It's a very common body type and completely normal. Others may carry heavier on their boobs/stomachs/upper arms/bums

ItIsWhatItIsInnit · 08/07/2019 19:45

Probably the most ridiculous thing I've read on Mumsnet this year.

I didn't say it was true for everyone, but it certainly was for me, and it seems to be the consensus amongst many personal trainers that weights, not cardio, is the way to go for weight loss and toning. For example this is a PT I know saying the same thing:

Afteryoux · 08/07/2019 19:51

She’s not asking for constructive advice is she? She doesn’t ask what exercises she needs to do.

aintnothinbutagstring · 08/07/2019 19:52

Some people are all tits and belly with skinny legs, others are all arse and chunky legs, I'm the latter like you OP. I tend to make the most of a relatively flat stomach and toned arms, smallish boobs.

CoteDAzur · 08/07/2019 19:53

"CoteDAzur who do you think you are?"

I think I am someone answering a question OP has asked on a public forum. Who do you think you are, telling me what I can say or not say on said forum where I have posted for +10 years? Hmm

"Women naturally carry more weight around their thighs."

I know something about that, as a woman myself.

"Telling her to go run isn't going to get rid of it"

Yes, it will. What isn't going to help is your defeatist attitude.

User10fuckingmillion · 08/07/2019 19:59

They look normal to me OP 🤷‍♀️

User10fuckingmillion · 08/07/2019 20:01

^ for clarification, normal as in perfectly fine, not overly large, rather than ‘average British woman’ (although that too, I suppose!)

PlinkPlink · 08/07/2019 21:07

That is fat you are grabbing but your legs aren't fat.

I think they look beautiful!

And it pisses me off when women can't lift each other up and say something like that.

If you feel really self conscious, do some toning exercises. Squats, bridges, lunges etc. But don't lose weight if you don't want to. We all have an area where we carry more. Mine is my stomach. I hate it but I'm working on it.

Lovely legs OP, wish mine were like that!

Hels20 · 08/07/2019 21:12

You look like you have Lipodema - 10% of women have it.

Pinkyyy · 08/07/2019 21:44

She’s not asking for constructive advice is she? She doesn’t ask what exercises she needs to do.

Then what is she asking? If she literally just wanted to ask if she has fat legs, then I'm at a loss as to why she would do that. Such a weird thread.

LookWhosInTheRejectBin · 08/07/2019 21:45

The OP did ask, yes, but it seems the people just commenting "yeah, fat" aren't considering OP's potential state of mind.

This could be someone with mental health issues looking to validate their poor body image. Nothing wrong with being honest, but there's no need to be a terse dick about it. Maybe actually engage with the OP?

(Not saying you are unwell MouthFullofGum, but I just wish people would take into consideration posters feelings. We never know what a poster might be going through.)

PerpendicularVincent · 08/07/2019 22:10

Exactly, LookWho

that25cUKHeatwaveof2019 · 08/07/2019 22:34

Yes, it will. What isn't going to help is your defeatist attitude

I agree, I hate this depressing attitude: you are a woman, so it's normal to be "fat".
You had a baby, your body will never recover and you will look like a blob because it's normal.

FFS. Even a child can be obese if they over-eat, but with the right diet and exercise, everyone can look as good as they want.
Putting women down and pretending that their looks are over is disgusting. Yes, you might need to do some work, but that's normal. We are not designed to sit on a chair for 8 hours a day!

Enclume · 08/07/2019 22:53

Yeah but the OP is far from looking like a blob or being obese.

I bet she has a lovely waist and packs all her fat into legs and arse

Which as many have pointed out is a healthy body type and also btw one favoured by a lot of men.

not saying she is, but if I was reading the comments about being normal, learn to love what you have, I would start thinking I was!

NoTheresa · 08/07/2019 23:37

Yes, fat.
