Bum bags are they back in fashion ?

Today I have seen ( in less time than an hour ) two people wearing bum bags , one was a girl friend who is always very fashionably dressed and the other was a random I passed whilst driving my car .
I think they are horrid yet really handy , are they back in fashion ?

They’ve been back awhile and are on their way out!

skippy67 · 07/07/2019 17:08

Yeah they're back with a vengeance! 18yo Dd and her friends all have them.

megletthesecond · 07/07/2019 17:09

Yes.
Lucky teens have got combat pants back too.

Appears so but for young girks going to festivals and the likes. Not for a 44 yr old woman (aka me)! I prefer to carry a classier bag.

MrsDeltaB · 07/07/2019 17:28

I've got one for dog waking, carries poop bags, antibac and my keys!

The "fashon" element can go sing over practical for me 😁

LazyFace · 07/07/2019 18:01

I've seen ones that doubled as belts and I really liked the idea. Didn't buy any as none would have been ok with my tops but they looked nice and perfect for phones, cards and having your hands free.

MrTumblePulledAKnifeOnMe · 07/07/2019 18:05

I have one, for non-fashion related purposes. Really handy for hanging on the pushchair and slinging over your shoulder on days out when toddler is constantly in and out of the pushchair, theme park rides etc. Fits phone, purse, a couple of nappies, wipes and a couple of nappy sacks.

SpuriouserAndSpuriouser · 07/07/2019 18:08

They are fashionable at the moment, but only if they are see-through plastic and you are aged under twenty. And you have to wear them slung across your chest, not at hip level.

fatfluffycushion · 07/07/2019 18:26

Thank you all !
It wasn't the "fashion " element I was really interested in but the practical side of being hands free , they are great for that when riding or jogging etc , I'm going to look out for a discreet black one !

Decathlon do nifty stretchy small ones that are discrete.

Hoppinggreen · 07/07/2019 18:34

Dd14 and her mates have all got them

WhoWants2Know · 07/07/2019 18:39

They just make sense for summer activities like amusement parks where you can't be fiddling with handbags

Weaverspin · 07/07/2019 18:40

My DD has one. I do too, but only for carrying stuff while dog-walking.

Hotterthanahotthing · 07/07/2019 18:43

According to 16 yr old worn a cross the body not around the waist. If you wear it like that a small bag would be better.

gamerchick · 07/07/2019 18:48

I really dislike the way people wear them over their chests. It not only looks ridiculous, it can't be very comfortable.

Bum bags are comfortable and practical. But people can get really snobby about them, it's a bag that you don't have to put down. What's not to like?!

BackforGood · 07/07/2019 18:51

How funny.
I was the token aged Aunt at an 18th birthday party a month or so ago and there was a young lad (I'm guessing 18) walking around all night with a bum bag strung across his chest.
I was Hmm

Asked around a few of my nieces and nephews - admittedly in their 20s - and all though t it odd too. Since then I've seen a few when driving through High Streets etc. Glad to have it confirmed this is a fashion, which is a weird fashion because it is so eminently practical, which is sort of the opposite of most fashion things Grin

BackforGood · 07/07/2019 18:53

Oh, and I've broken it to my nieces and nephews they are now clearly too old to know a fashion 'thing' when they see it Grin

BiBabbles · 07/07/2019 19:06

My teen son has a small black leather one and I am tempted to get one for similar reasons - being hands-free, convenience when being more active, and I'm finding crossbody bag is now rubbing and annoying my sore shoulders so thinking a shoulder-free option might also be best for me. I have been looking at them online though haven't made a decision on which one yet.

UrsulaPandress · 07/07/2019 19:07

Dd has several for festivals but wears it across one shoulder and round her torso. Hmm

Itstheprinciple · 07/07/2019 19:18

I had one for our recent holiday to Orlando. DH took the piss mercilessly but it was very practical indeed! I wore it round my waist but I am a 37 year old wife and mother!

Outsomnia · 07/07/2019 19:22

The strap around the waist discreet ones are the business. Hands free, I use it when travelling, can access documents and money etc. very easily. I don't actually see what the problem is.

BackforGood · 07/07/2019 19:50

That is exactly the point, Outsomnia. Grin

They are very sensible and practical. The very antithesis of fashion and young people being cool which I'm sure isn't a word the teens would use

horrayforharoldlloyd · 07/07/2019 19:53

They were in last year - they are out again now

UrsulaPandress · 07/07/2019 19:59

No they aren't out.

Outsomnia · 07/07/2019 20:54

@BackforGood,

I don't care about fashion much, so I do what is practical for me! What exactly is fashion anyway, following the herd and buying the same thing, oh right.

Teens and fashionistas can do what they wish, I don't care.
