Bum bags are they back in fashion ?

fatfluffycushion · 07/07/2019 16:53

Today I have seen ( in less time than an hour ) two people wearing bum bags , one was a girl friend who is always very fashionably dressed and the other was a random I passed whilst driving my car .
I think they are horrid yet really handy , are they back in fashion ?

I have one that is now twenty years old that I use for fell running. Wouldn't wear it in real life though. Although in my younger days I did used to take it to raves to hide drugs in

TapasForTwo · 07/07/2019 21:04

I have one that I have had for years. DD took it interrailing round Europe and said it was invaluable.

I am going to buy a slim one for running.

Bananalanacake · 07/07/2019 21:12

I have one for shopping and collecting dc. I only need it for phone and purse. dp thinks they are hideous but he never sees me with it. but I am in Germany where I don't care about fashion.

They are invaluable for raving - It’s impossible to dance properly and carry a handbag. I’ve got several sequin ones and a couple of neon ones. They’re fantastic.

Outsomnia · 07/07/2019 21:28

Fanny packs, bumbags etc. are BACK. The discreet ones that are like a wallet on your waist are the biz.

So practical, I cannot understand why they disappeared TBH.

Oh I forgot, it was the fashionistas who decided. But who cares?

BackforGood · 07/07/2019 21:52

I don't care about fashion much, so I do what is practical for me!

Exactly Outsomnia, me too.
But teens who are desperate to 'fit in' with the herd, don't usually seek to wear the same practical items as their parents wear. That is the bit that makes them wearing something so sensible as a bum bag, seem strange.

happytobemrsg · 07/07/2019 21:57

I wish I could pull one off - I can see it being extremely practical once DS2 arrives. But I think it would only work for me if I was very slim & was otherwise dressed very trendy

happytobemrsg · 07/07/2019 21:58

Can only work in the summer though right? When you’re not wearing a jacket?

GrabbyGertie · 07/07/2019 22:02

My DDs who are in their 20’s both wear them. I love the fact they wear them as they are so useful and safe. I think they are less likely to be robbed or to forget their belongings which is great news if they are clubbing or travelling.

What does that even mean. 'work for me'? It's a bag you clip around your waist, put stuff in and zip up. They usually work pretty well until the zips break.

OneThreadOnly0101 · 07/07/2019 22:14

Surely they're no longer bum bags if you wear them stupidly across your chest? I'm irrationally annoyed.

I had a bum bag from McDonald's Grin & sunglasses 😎

OKBobble · 07/07/2019 22:25

Eastpak is the brand you need OP

motherheroic · 07/07/2019 22:53

I've always worn them across my chest because I would zip it up under my coat/jacket.

TheVanguardSix · 07/07/2019 22:56

They were never in. Just totally useful. I have one for my dog walks!

fatfluffycushion · 08/07/2019 06:50

@OKBobble Just looked at eastpak they just right for me thank you

OMG I want one

Pinktinker · 08/07/2019 12:29

Definitely. Very practical, I’m sure my Dad is delighted Grin.

Macca84 · 08/07/2019 12:33

I'm in my 30s and recently bought one to go to a concert where there were strict 'no bags' rules. I'd forgot how practical they are! Think I'll be wearing it more, I don't really care if the fashionistas tell me that women in their 30s shouldn't wear one Grin

SamBeckett · 08/07/2019 16:37

I have a black one it's amazing just how much you can get in I tend to use it more for when I'm cycling so I don't have to use my rucksack it carries my company and personal phone puncture repair kit , mini first aid kit, packet of mints sometimes about chocolate sunglasses house keys company ID badge. I always wear it around my waist.

Justmuddlingalong · 08/07/2019 16:46

I have one that I use on holiday. I wear it traditionally, around my waist. And rather than getting a discreet colour, I thought sod it and bought a bright pink one.

lalafafa · 08/07/2019 16:51

You have to wear them cross body though. Not like a Nana around your waist.

gamerchick · 08/07/2019 17:01

Yeah better to look utterly ridiculous and uncomfortable than like a nana Hmm

TapasForTwo · 08/07/2019 17:15

I am immune to fashion Nazis, and am considering using my bumbag again. Quite frankly I don't care what anyone thinks.

Sosayi · 08/07/2019 18:37

My son bought one for his recent holiday
He’s 25 and very much into fashion
I pissed myself when DH told him he had one 25 years ago
The look on his face was priceless

Chloe9 · 10/07/2019 16:09

I bought one today Blush no going back now
