Which mattress in a box?

With all the new mattresses out there popping up on my facebook feed, which one do I want and why? Especially when you can’t see them in a shop. And how much did you pay for yours? Or is a decent sprung and memory foam topper the way to go?

Anyone got something like the simba or otty? I think I want something that has springs and memory foam combined

I have the Simba. It is OK. but only OK.

I have had it for 2.5 years.

Too soft and there is lots of rebound when the other person moves, and it dips towards each other.

Actually I don't think it is very good for the price and wish I had got a proper mattress not a silly internet box mattress.

Had the Lesa first and that was so shit I sent it back in the 100 days.

I reckon people who like these, haven't really ever had a decent mattress before.

Thanks that’s actually useful. I wasn’t sure whether to get one or go and buy a proper sprung mattress and memory foam topper

Mattresses are important - don't get one you can't try out, ideally at home. Most of the internet ones have good returns mechanisms - make sure your choice does.

I have an Emma and absolutely loath it. It's too hard, it's sweaty, and when you roll over it almost tips you out of bed. I'm furious with myself for buying it. Of course I had a middle of the night surprise AF appearance that went through the mattress protector two weeks after buying it and couldn't return it. So now since I'm still paying it off I have years of uncomfortable sleep ahead of me.

Go in to a shop and lay down on it. Don't buy it online.

Go to a mattress shop, I've bought a few new mattresses in the last couple of years, all sorts of choices and prices

We've got the Otty mattress and find it very comfortable. My husband moves around a lot in the night due to his medical condition and I'm up a lot with the baby , we disturb each other very little now. It's not perfect , but it does seem to be a good mix of soft yet sturdy. We think it was a good buy.

We tried one in the shop, spent hours making sure we picked the right one, and spent a bloody fortune on the damn thing. Months of backache later which I attributed to lugging my toddler around I stayed at my parents and woke up pain free - it's the bloody mattress. And John Lewis's returns policy won't let us return it as it has been too long.

Trying doesn't always help! Next time (when I can bring myself to spend money on a mattress again) we will get an online one with a decent trial period as I don't think anything other than actually sleeping on one shows you what it's like.

I had a Casper but returned it and now I have an Eve.

Order one and try it. Don’t get rid of your old mattress just yet and then return it if you don’t like it. No stress.

Oh. I’ve just looked and I can do a ‘refer a friend’ thing from Eve which saves £100.

I have a hyde and sleep. It's too hard so had to buy a topper for it. It was also impossible to unpack. I'll never buy a boxed mattress again.

A cautionary tale....in fact I posted on here about it a while ago.

We’d had a boxed mattress for DS and were super impressed. It’s amazing. So on amazon I ordered what I thought was the same one for DD. Turns out it was a different name and absolutely appalling quality. I couldn’t return it without paying the courier costs myself and believe me, couriering a now unboxed mattress to the other end of the UK was not viable - the costs negated almost 50% of the mattress cost - basically leaving me massively out of pocket and with a mattress I couldn’t give back.

Amazon were useless. No help at all.

I’d buy reputable or locally and double check any returns policies and liabilities beforehand.

We are looking at getting a new mattress and I would love a Hypnos one they use in Premier Inn. I never usually sleep well in other beds, but I always do in those beds. They are about £400 on the Premier Inn website, just search Premier Inn Hypnos.

Hmm, I guess it’s just try one and see. We already sleep on memory foam so hopefully we’ll be used to that.
Will let you know pancake if we decide to go for the Eve

We got a reylon rolled mattress. Was awful, no side support at all and too soft. Binned after a month of sleepless nights. Wouldnt buy boxed again

Not what you were asking I know, but I swear by Ikea mattresses. I’ve recommended them to various family members and they are also all very happy with them.

I tried the Eve in a showroom and it was too hard. We bought the Emma via a grouping deal so it was half price. Someone had returned it but then the outer cover is replaced and it’s steam cleaned. I didn’t mind as hotel beds have been slept in hours before by someone else.

I absolutely love my bed now!

Was tempted by those memory mattresses but ended up getting a hypnos again. Can't go wrong and similar price to a decent boxed one. Some good offers on them in JL.

We have a Simba and I love it. Don't realise how nice it is till you sleep in another bed and I miss my own bed! Had it a couple of years, it's firm but not hard, I don't feel my DP wriggling around and the pins and needles I used to regularly get with my old mattress have gone. Not tried others but would definitely recommend Simba x

Don't do it - they all get amazing reviews for the first couple of months then it goes downhill fast. That's why they do the 100 day guarantee thing. Makes it look like they're so great they can offer you a no quibble refund, but actually it's just that they're only good for that long!

I've also got a Simba mattress, I've had it 9 months and it's still great. I don't notice my lab who sleeps with me.
Previously I've had a locally made spring bed costing as much as the Simba so am used to a decent mattress.

I love my Simba mattress because it’s very comfortable. You do sink into it which I adore but others might not. I have their pillow too but don’t quite rate it.
