Aldi, your days are numbered

First you fuck with the design of your pull ups so they give my toddler a wedgie and leak all the time, but now, now you've gone too far by changing your camembert.

I made gorgeous chorizo bread, I prepared the cheese, I popped a bottle of fizz and it all went to hell when I baked your stupid camembert. The packaging had changed but I never expected the puffed up scrambled egg mess that came out of the oven. Where was the ooze? Where was the goo. So. Disappointed.

I will now be frequenting tesco for my cheese needs.

You're on your last chance aldi, stop messing with my shopping.

Lidl Camembert is also scrambled egg like and not oozy.

Surfingtheweb · 02/07/2019 20:05

You should e mail or tweet them, I don't know if they will see your feedback on here. Cheaper doesn't mean poor quality, they have a different business model, the big retailers want lots of money from suppliers, LOTS. Aldi & Lidl just want price, stack it high sell it cheap. I can 100% verify that some of the products you buy in own label packets are branded goods, it's too expensive to do a separate production & recipe!!

IncyWincyGrownUp · 02/07/2019 20:06

My son doesn’t like the Aldi pull-ups any more. He prefers the ones in the grey pack from Tesco. He’s a nappy expert and not afraid to tell me when he doesn’t like the fit.

GummyGoddess · 02/07/2019 20:12

@Asta19 from what I remember, ocado and Tesco are the same price. Ocado just have a better public image.

secretscribbler · 02/07/2019 20:12

I love Aldi, but M&S fruit and veg is much better quality.

TheBabyAteMyBrain · 02/07/2019 20:13

I like aldi, I like their ethics and how they treat and pay their staff. I don't like thong pull ups that leak and scrambled egg camembert.

I'm finding myself nipping into tescos more and more recently and it's disappointing and annoying having to do two shops with a toddler and baby in tow.

Fruit and veg has always lasted well for me, and the toddler is a picky bastard who only likes certain aldi products so I'm not completely jumping ship just yet.

The fruit and veg seems to vary a lot store to store. Our local one is great. The one near us on holiday was very poor.

ladypenelopeplum · 02/07/2019 20:17

Aldi are awful, Lidl are much, much better.

MadisonMontgomery · 02/07/2019 20:17

I love Aldi for loads of things, but their fruit and veg and also meat go off too quickly - certainly before the best before date.

katseyes7 · 02/07/2019 20:19

l once (years ago) bought tins of tuna from Aldi. lt was disgusting. Worse than cat food. After we'd opened the first tin, the lot went straight in the bin. Everything else we'd bought from there was fine.
l only have a Lidl and a small Asda here, but can mostly manage with those, Lidl is great for greens and herbs for the rabbits. Fortunately l've started working at a big Tesco, though, which is a huge help. But the greens and herbs are cheaper at Lidl!

TroysMammy · 02/07/2019 20:21

I always think Aldi looks as it has been ransacked.

RosesAndRaindrops · 02/07/2019 20:22

It’s cheap for a reason

Nah, Aldi's always been cheap, but the products I've found has always been great.
Saying they're cheap for a reason just makes you sound snobby, sorry. As a lot of the stuff in there is lovely.
I freaking love Aldi, I'm in there at least once a week Grin
Although the OP's entitled to think that some of her faves have changed, that'd do my head in too!

notso · 02/07/2019 20:23

You can call bollocks until your blue in the face SlowLiving but it's a common issue that crops up again and again on these kind of threads.
My local store had mouldy produce on the shelves on the day it opened. It was all over the local town Facebook group.

I think a lot of it people put up with because it's cheaper, so yeah they had to throw three rotten apples out of the pack they're only 60p a pack so they can buy twice as many.

FamilyOfAliens · 02/07/2019 20:23

Their gin beat most of the competition in a Telegraph taste test, including one wanky offering from Heston at four times the price.

EdWinchester · 02/07/2019 20:24

My son had an Aldi (or Lidl) next door to his 2nd year uni house.

Marvellous! Until he realised the fruit and veg was off almost as soon as he got it home. He also said the tuna was worse than cat food. He refuses to go in there now.

purplecorkheart · 02/07/2019 20:24

I do think fruit and veg vary store by store. My local Aldi is very good for fruit and veg as the staff carefully handled the boxes etc. The other nearest store to me has a far superior range of products but have seen staff toss fruit and veg from pallet to pallet and box to box.

Yappy12 · 02/07/2019 20:25

Tesco all the way for us. OH does get me some nice potato salad from Lidl though, big tub and is very nice and creamy. Far better than even Tesco Finest.

Justanotherlurker · 02/07/2019 20:25

But some of their stuff just doesn't cut it. Fact.

Same with any supermarket.

Aldi isn't a great institution, but neither is any other supermarket, there is a reason why it has become acceptable amongst the so called middle class, and it isn't solely because said shoppers wanting to save money.

There is a reason why there is no snobbery about it around europe and why it has become a big hitter in the UK despite some people still trying to place into some random class demographic, especially here on MN

Skyejuly · 02/07/2019 20:25

I love aldi for bread/juice/crisps/snacks and freezer food.

RosesAndRaindrops · 02/07/2019 20:26

I love Aldi, but M&S fruit and veg is much better quality

Maybe so, but costs about 5 million pounds more (yes, slight exaggeration but you get my drift lol)
I mean, approx 2.50 to 3 a punnet of say raspberries or strawberries when you can get nice punnets of fruit from Aldi for 69p?
It's a no brainer unless you're lucky enough not to have penny count

newmomof1 · 02/07/2019 20:27

Oh no I've just bought a pack of size 3 nappies (we're going up a size) - I hope they'll still be ok!
Going to miss the colour change strip we had on size 2 though.

Skyejuly · 02/07/2019 20:28

Nappies seem fine to me?

hsegfiugseskufh · 02/07/2019 20:28

I prefer the new pull ups for tiny skinny ds! Agree they are a bit wedgie-y though but weve not had a leak yet!

Cannot comment on the camembert!

Iv also developed somewhat of an addiction to their seal bars which are far superior to penguins!

jennymanara · 02/07/2019 20:28

I get special fruit at M&S. But most of the veg I buy I cook with. It really does not matter if it is carrots from M&S or ALDI, no one could taste the difference.

bobstersmum · 02/07/2019 20:30

I'm so glad someone else thinks the pull ups have gone rubbish! They don't cover dds bum cheeks! She had a crap the other day and it went all over the floor because the pull up was all wonky at the back, they're weird!
