Fancy joining me in keeping track of progress?
I'll have 3 kids at home so I expect mine to be slow! It'd be great to have some company/ moral support Wink

I just posted on here

Avocadodance · 30/06/2019 15:57

I'm in. Also think it'll be a case of little and often as kids make a massive clear out
over a day or two impossible.

Chilledout11 · 30/06/2019 16:01

I am on summer holiday a few days now and at home so am on a big mission. I have got rid of three black bags so far. Organised kitchen cupboards and going to do the bathroom tonight. Also sorted toys.

RunningKatie · 30/06/2019 16:31

Would joining this thread mean I have to get rid of the car boot of stuff I am driving around? I need to drop it to a charity shop, whilst my children aren't with me. So far it's been 2 months! And I've another pile of stuff in the house

thenewaveragebear1983 · 30/06/2019 16:50

I'm planning a declutter and 'get jobs finished' strategy over the summer. I have so many half finished or 95% finished projects as well as being long overdue a clear out.

FlowerTink · 30/06/2019 17:01

Yes! Currently expecting DC2 so hoping to have a big declutter and sort over the summer

UsernameTaken76 · 30/06/2019 17:07

We’ve just finished this. Used our two weeks annual leave. The first week we spent on the house. 6 trips to the charity shop, 5 to the Tip and another load put on Ebay. Also able to give our old dining table to a friend. Feels so much better looking round the house.

Then started on decluttering the gardens. Another 15(!) tip trips can’t believe how many trees/hedges/plants the old owners of our house had!

Cailleachbeag · 30/06/2019 17:11

Hi @Rosawaiting, thanks for the link, will check out that thread too, the more support/accountability, the better!

Hi @Avocadodance, definitely little and often here too. I think I'll do an hour in the morning and then an hour when they go to bed. Just have to find a way to keep the toddler contained 😅

@Chilledout11 sounds like a great start! I can't wait to declutter and get my kitchen organised. At the moment, every meal time involves clearing things off the table to eat!

@RunningKatie, afraid so 😉 getting rid of bags as quickly as possible is definitely part of my strategy this time... We'll see how it works out 😉

@thenewaveragebear1983 I am possibly returning to study in the Autumn and like you, just want to get all those fiddly bits and pieces done once and for all!

I've cleared the playroom floor today and am going to get bin bags later. Tomorrow, I'm going to try the Kondi approach of getting all the clothes we own in one place to sort/ re home them.... 🙈

It will change your life ! Makes keeping on top a doddle. We’re waiting to move into a new to us place , so will be kondo from the start . After you’ve done , you will think it’s mad to be any other way.honestly will save you hours . Only thing I didn’t do in last place was sentimental, whittled it down but not organised. Good luck ! I wish I’d done this when my family were children x

daisyboocantoo · 30/06/2019 17:31

Oooohhh!!! I need to listen to the audiobook and get on it. My place is dreadful.

Cailleachbeag · 30/06/2019 17:34

That's so good to hear @Popetthetreehugger! I've been putting it off for so long because I know it's a mammoth task but I'm at the point now where I hate when anyone calls as I seem to be always moving 'stuff' from one chair to another.

Go for it @daisyboocantoo! The Netflix doc is good too

I was wondering today if any other mumsnetters were planning to do this over summer!!

I am!! My DD’s are 10 and 13 and they have out grown a lot of clothes, toys and books. DD1 needs a proper desk in her room for homework/storage.

We have watched the Marie Kondo series on Netflix which was really useful was they can see what I am trying to achieve.

I run a business and have moved out of the unit I used to rent as I am fed up of the commute and the rent has gone up.

So I now need to fit all of the business into our dining room (we don’t use this as dining room as we have a table in the kitchen).

I also want to paint all the bedrooms and the living room to freshen everything up.

So yes I am in! Smile

ChikiTIKI · 30/06/2019 17:45

Yes I did it with books and clothes a year ago but want to do it in more rooms and also do clothes again. I can't fit all my clothes in the drawers any more and most of them are old and I don't like wearing them.

Also planning to have some work done to the house so getting rid of stuff would help everything look nice :)

GloGirl · 30/06/2019 18:06

Oh yes! Me too! So pleased to see this thread, going to sort out a proper list to work through, one or two areas a day.

I love Marie Kondo and do use her principles but will dilute them a bit to make them more practical with young children so it's not all of X but more space by space so that I can pick it up and put it down as I need to.

I'm so looking forward to it and have agreed to use a relatives garage so that I can declutter into it and then car boot the lot and charity shop anything that doesnt sell
All proceeds from the sale are going into organisation systems that I can start to purchase in September.

Popetthetreehugger · 30/06/2019 18:54

I agree with Esther , watch the series, I had both books , but binge watching was the clincher ! Iv also rejoined the library and passed on a ton of work related books as realised that I bought a bookcase when I moved 3 years ago, and didn’t look at them again till I packed up to move this Easter !

peasando · 30/06/2019 19:08

Yes me! I have a very messy DH and toddler, a small flat and DC2 due in December - aiming for a big declutter over the summer! It will be slow though...

Montsti · 30/06/2019 19:11

I did with mine and my son and baby’s clothes (still have my other 2 daughters and dh’s But he can do his own!)...it’s great! I can suddenly see all my folded clothes - t shirts, shorts, jumpers, long sleeved tops etc...I’m discovering clothes I haven’t worn for years!!!

It actually didn’t take very long once I got the hang of it and I’m a hoarder so everyone has lots of clothes..

So worth it! Good luck!

Montsti · 30/06/2019 19:13

I also donated loads of baby things which I’ve been struggling to do - acceptance that I’ll never have another baby 😢😂. It was the push I needed!

DreamingofSunshine · 30/06/2019 20:04

I'd like to join. We are moving house and new one is half the size so I need to do a huge declutter.

PurpleCrazyHorse · 30/06/2019 21:05

It's amazing. We're not 'done' by any stretch, but the Marie Kondo clothes folding has revolutionised our tiny storage. I'd also suggest getting 50 new velvet effect clothes hangers (so things don't slip off), then only fill those. It makes you really think about your clothes and now I only have one item per hanger I can really see what I have.

I'll be continuing in the summer as I want to sort out the attic!

MrsBobDylan · 30/06/2019 21:30

I've just sorted all my clothes using the Marie Kondo method.

I am finding it so much easier to put outfits together now because I can see what I own.

I am half way through the house. We moved in March and I am determined to live better with only he items I need/like.

Am off to watch the series, thanks for the suggestion!

Laiste · 30/06/2019 21:36

Eight black sacks stuffed full i got rid of last year due to Kondo. That was just from my bedroom and the living room. EIGHT !! Imagine the amount of room that freed up. And i wasn't even all that cluttered.

I can't name more than a handful of items of what was in those bags so it obviously wasn't all that important to me.

It's great! Grin

Cailleachbeag · 01/07/2019 12:04

Hi all! Any progress today?

I've all my clothes downstairs and have started going through them. So many things I've kept in case I magically fit into them again 🙊 and clothes I had forgotten I owned!

FrogFairy · 01/07/2019 12:09

Please can I ask a question to those who have already Kondo folded their clothes?

Are they ok to wear straight out of the drawer, or do you iron them first? I usually hang things straight in the wardrobe having dried them on a hanger. I rarely iron but can imagine the Kondo clothes might look like I have slept in them. Under a bush Grin

Cailleachbeag · 01/07/2019 12:13

I like the velvet hangers suggestion @purplecrazyhorse. The whole idea of taking better care of less is really appealing!
