Fancy joining me in keeping track of progress?
I'll have 3 kids at home so I expect mine to be slow! It'd be great to have some company/ moral support Wink

I only Kondo fold jeans, PJs and leggings. None need ironing. I have 50 hangers for tops, dresses and jumpers and a couple of trouser hangers for trousers that would crease if folded.

It's been good to be able to see every item in the wardrobe.

DS is helping me focus, he wants his bedroom decorating in the summer holidays. Thankfully he's not a hoarder --unlike dd- so it's a good opportunity for a clearout

confusedofengland · 01/07/2019 16:04

I'm constantly trying to declutter but never seem to get very far! Did a bit this afternoon & got rid of:

  • a bag of too-small DC pants (school very grateful for them)
  • listed on FB 2 toy helicopters & a couple of pairs of swim shorts that DS doesn't like the style of

So about a carrier bag of stuff in total.

Will keep trying to do the same every day, little & often is the way to go for me.

Meckity1 · 01/07/2019 17:52

Please count me in.

The house is in urgent need of re-wiring (washing machine blew last week, still waiting for repair, can't have washer, dryer and kettle on at the same time or all the lights go out).

The house is full and I don't know where to start. I'm still picking myself up from a few years of bereavements and other stuff that's normal life but really disruptive.

I don't have a clue where to start and my son is likely to be unco-operative. I'm going to try getting him to watch Mari Kondo.

And I've got a freelance opportunity that will take hours - and if I'm going to make it, I need to get it sorted by Aug 15th.

On the bright side, I can drive to the tip and to a charity shop, but I'm scared of the parking.

Cailleachbeag · 02/07/2019 14:05

How is everyone doing? Little and often seems to be the key, although I'd love a couple of child free hours to make head way!

I emptied the car of rubbish today, so I'm taking that as a win.

Hope to get some more done this evening.

Chilledout11 · 02/07/2019 20:01

I got up at 7.30 am and decluttered the airing cupboard. After work I decluttered a good amount from a spare room. Feel like little and often is the way to go.

Clutterfreeintraining · 02/07/2019 20:31

Please can I join you?

I had a big kondo session about 4 years ago and the areas I tackled have stayed pretty clear. However, there is a lot of room for improvement and I long for a tidy and uncluttered home.

I have two weeks off work in August so that will be my main starting point but will have a pre-kondo and start getting rid of things between now and then.

One of this year's goals is to finish off as many craft projects as possible (about to finish the third!!) so that's helping to clear a bit of space in the craft cupboard/room/floor Grin. And I'm on a self-imposed yarn ban so at least my stash has stopped growing!

MrsDilligaf · 02/07/2019 20:36

I'm in. I would like to have a beautiful clutter free life, so I'm taking it a room at a time.

First on my list is DDs room in preparation for decorating it fairly soon.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 02/07/2019 21:11

My first task is tomorrow, to go through the boys clothes and divide them by half. I've bought so many bundles of things and they hardly wear them.

Then I'm going to do the same with the playroom as we are mid decorating, and all our books and games too.

I'd love to do the '50 item wardrobe' thing too. I have so many clothes, and I do want to wear them, but I just don't.

I've currently got a big haul on eBay, this is the third week running so I am gradually amassing a little pot of money in my PayPal account.

tinkywinkyshandbag · 02/07/2019 21:41

I do it for a living, I'm a professional declutterer. Still have my own to do though, the house isn't too bad but the shed and loft need a good sort out. It's actually easier doing other people's stuff.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 03/07/2019 06:54

@tinkywinkyshandbag I would love to do this as a job. How did you get started in that? Did you start as a cleaner?

IWouldPreferNotTo · 03/07/2019 07:07

We've just moved house so I did it as part of that. It was amazing how much we got rid of. I took 4 large car loads to the tip, a car load of decent stuff to the charity shop and sold £300 of stuff on gumtree. Even then I had to rent 2cubic meters of space on a van, posted 300kg of boxes (very cheap way to to a cross continent move) and filled a car for the drive to the new house.

Northernknickers · 03/07/2019 07:16

Me! But I'm not starting until I break up in 3 weeks. I'll then be on it with gusto ☺️

tinkywinkyshandbag · 03/07/2019 07:40

@theaveragebear no although I have done cleaning, started off when a friends relative died and turned out to have been a bit of a hoarder. We helped the family sort the house and it went from there. Been going 5 years now and busier than ever.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 03/07/2019 09:26

@tinkywinkyshandbag amazing. I was saying to my friend yesterday that I'd love to do it but I'm not brave enough, but you've inspired me. Do you advertise as a 'declutterer'?

Sorry to derail thread!!

tinkywinkyshandbag · 03/07/2019 18:13

Hi yes we do!

tinkywinkyshandbag · 03/07/2019 18:14

@thenewaveragebear1983 feel free to message me and I'll share some info with you

Pearlfish · 03/07/2019 18:18

Checking in!

RunningKatie · 03/07/2019 19:59

I've got 3 days free (school hours only) before kids break up for summer. Only one day a week but I want to make sure I use the time for maximum impact not just coffee drinking.
I've previously kondo'd my clothes, i probably need to go through them again. Then I think I might tackle the kitchen first, plus have an unfinished craft task to hand for when they are off school and busy destroying the house.

ChikiTIKI · 04/07/2019 06:46

I am going to start next week :) will only be doing it in the evenings probably an hour each night though.

Does anyone know of any good podcasts about tidying? I thought it might be worth listening to something motivational as I go!

Meckity1 · 04/07/2019 09:38

I dropped four bags of rubbish (not very full) at the tip this morning.

It was weird, because normally driving to the tip leaves me a nervous wreck, but the cut back from school meant going along lots of winding country roads and I felt really relaxed, so I added a few extra miles on the way back, went through the country roads instead of the ring road and got home lovely and calm.

Then I found that the toilet was blocked. I've dosed it with washing up liquid and I'm keeping fingers and legs crossed.

Hopefully washing machine will be fixed today so I can start on the washing mountain. I want to donate some curtains. They are perfectly good, but need a wash (washable according to the label) and it seems a shame to throw them out. Or is that a symptom of my hoarding tendencies?

tectonicplates · 04/07/2019 10:31

Has anyone here ever regretted getting rid of specific items of clothing? I only ever manage to get rid of a few things at a time, so it's been years since I've had the satisfaction of having a Really Big Wardrobe Clearout. I'm particularly torn about the clothes I can't fit into, and will I ever lose some weight so should I keep them just in case?

RunningKatie · 04/07/2019 16:02

I can only think of one dress i got rid of and wish I hadn't. Not even sure when it went, but i still have occasions when it would have been just right.
Do you want to keep the clothes because you love them?

tectonicplates · 04/07/2019 16:06

There are several items that I love even though I can no longer fit into them.
