What profession do you work in

Animum2 · 28/06/2019 19:15

I've never stuck to one profession, not through a lack of wanting to but situations, for me Id rather stick to a job that i enjoy whereas I know others have careers

In my job experience I've worked in

Medical research
Food
Council
Fine book publisher (longest job for 11 years till redundancy)
Then courier company
Now Sharedealing

Just wondering if others have had a variety or same

Council. It's 5 minutes from home and the pension is good.

Oneminuteandthenallgone · 28/06/2019 19:34

Profession:

a paid occupation, especially one that involves prolonged training and a formal qualification eg "his chosen profession of teaching"

Oneminuteandthenallgone · 28/06/2019 19:38

i would say a profession is something in which you hold a qualification/status/accreditation that is regulated and can be removed. So not any job?

babysharkah · 28/06/2019 19:53

They sounds like jobs as opposed to a profession? I'm chartered in my field, so that's a profession to me

Expressedways · 28/06/2019 20:03

I think the OP means what industries/sectors have you worked rather than the ‘professions’ in the traditional sense e.g. medicine, law, something you hold an accreditation in...
Personally I’ve always worked in financial services. Don’t particularly love it but it pays well for what it is!

Banking all my life

QueenofallIsee · 28/06/2019 20:51

IT consultant - fell into it as a 21 yr old divorced single parent and was mentored by an amazing woman. Despite no qualifications she put me on a management programme and I reached director level, and recently set up my own consultancy

I never moved industry as I literally learned everything I know in IT!

Animum2 · 28/06/2019 20:53

Yeah I probably didn't explain myself very well!
Also qualified football coach when I was 20 and coaches under 10s for a couple of years

Well, I am a member of five institutes, five lots of post grad quals over a thirty year period (plus membership fees and cpd to contend with).

Profession is as oneminute states for me and I choose which one I admit to depending on where I am/who I am with. I never admit to one of them though!

Sectors I have worked in - private and public. Both have pros and cons.

Curlyshabtree · 28/06/2019 20:59

Grumpymug · 28/06/2019 21:04

Well according to the definition above, I haven't ever had one. Though professionalism is expected of me by the general public anyway, in all 3 sectors -
Retail
Care
Hospitality

Mia184 · 28/06/2019 21:05

I’m a quality & environmental manager.

sittingonacornflake · 28/06/2019 21:06

Law. For the last nearly 10 years since graduating. Pretty much always litigation of some form.
