Can anyone suggest somewhere in the uk for a couple of days away alone

For the love of Christ I need some time alone!

I’ve got some time off in August and would like to go away for 2 or 3 nights. Preferably near the coast, happy to not be in a big busy seaside town but don’t drive so a few amenities close by is necessary, preferably around 2h train from London...a hotel with a pool would be the cherry on top tho not a must!

Budget is about £300 which I know being school holidays may be tricky!

Any help gratefully received!

Doesn't have a pool, and is in a sleepy village near Salisbury, but The Lamb at Hindon is my happy place. Comfortable rooms, great food..you can curl up and read the papers in the bar, sit outside in the garden, or just sleep.

The scarlet in Mowgan Porth (Cornwall). Airport is nearby, it has a lovely spa and restaurant, sea views, no kids.

How about Norfolk? The Grove in Cromer has a pool and you can get the train via Norwich (will be a bit longer than 2 hours though).

Or Blakeney Hotel, but you would need a taxi from the station and it might be a bit over budget.

Don't know about hotels but HAstings and Rye are lovely places and accessible by train.

Champneys Henlow are on Secret Escapes at the moment, not sure if there is a supplement for a single traveller....but may work for you.

Norfolk is perfect for alone time. Somewhere on the coast.

The Suffolk coast is accessible by train, and it's pretty much perfect all the way from Leiston to Lowestoft (yes, really).

Saltburn by the Sea! Know a lovely hotel there and there's stuff to do or do nothing!

Oh I'm sorry I didn't read your OP properly 🙄, the journey from London on the train would be roughly double the time you specified.

Somewhere in the Devon countryside, very quiet,no kids,plenty of lovely walks and a cosy little hotel.

I would prefer up North,as in the wilds somewhere, but too far for you.
I don't like sunbathing or pools, just fresh air and nature.

If you fancy Norfolk coast, you could take train to Kings Lynn and then jump on the Coasthopper bus, which stops at numerous lovely villages along the coast, including Blakeney, Cromer, etc. I did this for a solo escape a couple of years ago and found a lovely Airbnb in Cley (no pool, though!). Also had good experience at Lifehouse Spa in Essex, very easily accessible from London by train.

What about Whitstable, lots to do and see nearby, or Broadstairs is lovely too, it's a more traditional seaside destination. As already mentioned Rye is a lovely little historic town.

Second the East Suffolk Coast - Dunwich area is lovely, steeped in history with beach/heathland/forestry and pretty villages. Also not far from larger towns.

I was going to suggest the secret escapes website too. Some pretty good deals on there for spa and county hotels at the moment!

I'd suggest going a bit further afield and going to Scotland. The children go back to school after the Scottish August bank holiday at the start of August.

My friend has been know to slope off here to de stress - take a taxi from Dorchester South train station.

Torquay should have hotels with pools in that price range and train station. We went to TLH one. There's a tourist train there, beach, zoo etc, swimming pool with slide, think might be boat trips too.

It's so beautiful and chic, lovely rooms, and you can book a massage/treatment and walk for miles on gorgeous Camber sands.

Rye is lovely for a grownup escape. Coastal but not full on seaside.
