Can you recommend me one please?
I’m looking to reduce plastic in our house so would appreciate your help.

I hover between Lush 'Honey...' and Ethique's 'Frizz Wrangler'. I'm in the US so Ethique is easier to get (it's an NZ brand), and Lush a little harder. Both have comparable results to bottled shampoo for me. I find the conditioner works better.

If you're into zero waste keep an eye out for Loop launching in the UK as it's expanding- it's like a milkman but for products. It could be a brilliant zero waste option for anyone who doesn't like shampoo bars or can't convert to packaging free deoderant. It's going on in a few US cities right now and has been really successful.

If you’re on a budget, the Dove sensitive bar is fine for washing your hair.

I use it occasionally on my long hair in the bath. (Can’t be bothered with conditioner.) Seems to do a good job. Easy to rinse too.

Thanks ladies. Very helpful!

My favourite is Lush Karma; they stopped selling it in the shops for a while & it was only available online, but it's back now. It lasts ages (but don't leave it in the shower soap dish in a puddle of water while everyone else showers everyone else showers or it will dissolve! Sad )

lotusbell · 24/06/2019 07:36

I have started on a Friendly one, you have to give it time for your hair to get used to it apparently so perseverance is key. Tried lots of Lush ones, not that impressive on my hair and quite expensive to 'try'. Check out Suddy Nora on Etsy or Instagram, she is just starting to expand her range to solid shampoo bars.

stucknoue · 24/06/2019 07:38

I used one for the first time this weekend visiting a friend and my hair was not cleaned properly, it's greasy - any tips, wondering if I didn't use enough?

NeverPutAWetFootInABirkenstock · 24/06/2019 07:39

Beauty Kubes are really good.

TheStakeIsNotThePower · 24/06/2019 08:34

I like the funky soap company ones. The tea tree and neem for the kids (so far never had nits) And either the Argan oil or morninga for me.

I do find their normal soap bars a little soft and therefore quick to use up though so need an alternative.

HeartvsHead · 24/06/2019 09:03

@SeraphinaDombegh you are a star! I had read a few reviews about not using too much so think I wasn't using enough. Got a good lather today and hair is 100x better than it was. Thank you!

Cautionsharpblade · 24/06/2019 09:06

I like Lush’s Jason and the Argan Oil, it’s smells lovely and lasts a long time. I bought a metal tin from Lush for travel and it sits in the bathroom in the lid, enough air contact for it to dry out and not go soggy. Don’t bother with a conditioner bar though.

ineedaknittedhat · 24/06/2019 09:47

I use the wild sage company one. It's very good and has a pleasant rosemary smell. It's all natural with no sls or anything.

Stefoscope · 24/06/2019 09:56

I get mine from Soaperlicious on ebay. I've tried Lush ones in the past and found they didn't lather up, so my hair never seemed to feel clean. The soaperlicious ones produce a decent amount of lather and are easy to wash out. I found no transition period of greasy hair itchy scalp when I moved from bottle shampoo to these bars.

ShivD · 24/06/2019 09:57

Lush honey for me and too. I’m a recent convert and really like it. It lathers well and definitely cleans my hair. I need to buy a ton for it though.

I’m not so fussed on the conditioner bar though so would love some recommendations for a good bar conditioner.

tenbob · 24/06/2019 10:01

I absolutely love this one, and the company that makes it is far nicer than Lush, which seems to lurch from one dick move to the next

I'm using the Lush purply one, which I've had for 6 months now! I store it in the little metal tin.

As it's nearing the end, I bought a replacement form a craft fair recently which has olive oil and aloe vera. Used it once and my eyes went all red and itchy (and they're still not better). So that's put me off trying anything different. Although the Dove sensitive bar sounds like it might be OK?

Enko · 24/06/2019 10:06

I like the friendly shampoo bar from earthwisegirls. they also do a hemp one but I haven't tried that yet. (Lots of other nice solutions there for how to reduce plastic)

wigglybeezer · 24/06/2019 10:10

I've been getting on quite well with a friendly soap company bar, but I feel it almost makes my hair too clean, in that it fluffs and frizzes up ( although nice and shiny with it). I have just bought a Justine rose shampoo bar and solid conditioner, hair not as frizzy but I don't think I rinsed well enough as underneath layers of hair feel coated and greasy, think I need trial and error to get the conditioner application right! Less is more.
I have to avoid the Lush ones as SLS gives me an itchy flakey scalp, shampoo bars have meant I can ditch Head & Shoulders at last.

Marmelised · 24/06/2019 10:11

anyone’s know how well these bars work on white hair? Mine picks up colour really easily ok have to be careful about what products I use.
I didn’t really like to move away from liquid shampoo but not if it means dull, discoloured hair.

Gentleness · 24/06/2019 10:21

I've seen several posters have really thick hair, but does anyone have really thin, feeble hair? Mine is thin and curly and with the wrong shampoo it is thin, flat and lanky, so I'm really on the fence about trying a bar that might not work. Or several bars! Anyone have any recommendations for the stragglers?

SeraphinaDombegh · 24/06/2019 13:19

@HeartvsHead I'm so pleased it's working better for you now. Hopefully it'll stay that way! I actually find that I need to wash my hair less now as it stays cleaner for longer.

ChopinIn10Minuets · 24/06/2019 14:45

I'm a bit like Gentleness except that although my hair is fine there's a lot of it, so it can be difficult to rinse properly. Is there any such thing as a sulphate-free, low residue shampoo bar that doesn't react with hard water and doesn't cost a bomb?

Grimbles · 24/06/2019 14:49

I'm another lush honey... user and I've also got the red cinnamon one. Both are pretty good for hair washing.

The conditioner bar I have is not so good, it takes a while to get enough product onto my hair to coat it so I dont use it that often.

Smellbow · 24/06/2019 14:56

I've just been looking at these today - anyone have wavy/curly hair and use them?

WidoWanky · 24/06/2019 15:31

Blue lush bar. Really happy with it.

I have curly hair and am looking for a non greasy conditioner. I currently use the aussie spray. That stuff in a bar would make me happy!

PhannyMcNee · 24/06/2019 22:22

@Gentleness yes me. I have fine wavy hair that tends to greasy. It is unbelievably better since I found the right bar - unfortunately I can’t remember which one it was Confused

It’s the same make as ‘coconutty’ but that one did nothing for my hair. I’m not in a hard water area though. I think it might be lemon and avocado...
