17 Year Old- Proof of Residency?

WickedGoodDoge · 21/06/2019 07:26

I need suggestions! DS(17) is doing a week’s work experience this summer with Ernst Young and amongst the hundreds of proof of things documents that he needs to send them, he needs something fo proof of residency.

We’ve tried his learners permit (rejected) and his NI letter (rejected as more than three months old). He doesn’t have any utility bills in his name and his banking is all done online so no bank statements. He just got an NHIC Card, but the letter says it isn’t proof of residency- not sure if that’s just the card that can’t be used, though and maybe he could use the letter as it’s issued by the NHS? Clutching at straws here!

What do 17 year olds use as proof of residence? Or any ideas as to where he could quickly get a letter from somewhere acceptable?

Ask his bank to print him out a statement. I th

ClashCityRocker · 21/06/2019 07:27

Does he have a bank account?

Soontobe60 · 21/06/2019 07:27

Print off a bank statement from online. It will have his address on.

MBM18 · 21/06/2019 07:27

I think that should do it*

MustDust · 21/06/2019 07:28

The bank can send a printed statement, just give them a call.

BelulahBlanca · 21/06/2019 07:28

The bank can print a letter for him.

WickedGoodDoge · 21/06/2019 07:28

Ha! That easy? Will do so today! Thank you!

A printout of a statement (either from home or at the bank) is unlikely to be sufficient.

However if you ring the bank and request they post a paper statement to him then this should be OK.

Sajacas · 21/06/2019 07:29

Even with online banking, they issue statements and have your adress. They are just digital documents usually PDFs. You should be able to download a statement and print it out. It will have the adress on, just make sure its less than 3 months old!

Is named on your council tax statement? (Can't recall if u18s are).

katewhinesalot · 21/06/2019 07:34

Doctor or hospital letter?

BigSandyBalls2015 · 21/06/2019 07:36

Passport?

WickedGoodDoge · 21/06/2019 07:37

He’s checked online banking and neither he nor DH can find any pdf statements (I can for my Bank of Scotland account but DS has a very basic Santander account) for his account, but DS will phone the bank this morning and ask them to post a statement out.

He’s not on the Council tax and no doctor or hospital letters.

Passport doesn’t have his address (he did use that as proof of identity, though!)

Bank statement or letter print does out
NHS card
Passport

DoctorDread · 21/06/2019 07:39

Driving licence if he has a provisional, that has an address on it

WickedGoodDoge · 21/06/2019 07:40

They rejected his provisional driving licence!

OP posts:
DoctorDread · 21/06/2019 07:43

Ffs that's ridiculous!

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 21/06/2019 07:51

It seems daft they’ve rejected his provisional. It’s the same as a full except the big red L on it.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 21/06/2019 07:55

I you regretting suggesting it WickedGoodDoge? I wish employers would either lost everything they need clearly or realise that it’s not always that easy for young people to provide things like this. I didn’t have a bill in my name until I was 21! I’d contributed towards bills but none were in my name.

Potentialmadcatlady · 21/06/2019 07:56

For court I always went into bank and got printed out statements that they stamped with their stamp... would that work?

haveuheard · 21/06/2019 08:03

Proof of residency as in proof of right to live and work in this country, or proof of address? To volunteer at my sons school now you need to provide a passport or birth certificate and recent payslip to show your right to work as they have taken a very strict interpretation of a recent change in the law.

ThePerturbedPenguin · 21/06/2019 08:06

Yes go physically into the bank and ask - they can stamp it I think, from memory.

Did you ask why they wouldn’t accept provisional licence? That’s ridiculous

cannycat20 · 21/06/2019 08:12

Why on earth did they reject his provisional licence? That seems very odd, I mean even banks usually accept the photocard ones.

Do they have a list of documents they WILL accept? Does he have a mobile phone in his name? Can he register to vote and use an electoral register entry, or confirmation from the council to prove he lives there? See www.gov.uk/voting-in-the-uk

Or, if he's at college, would his college issue him with a letter stating his address that could be used? How on earth are youngsters supposed to prove where they live these days?

WickedGoodDoge · 21/06/2019 08:19

haveuheard It’s really proof of address though they are calling it proof of residency. For proof of right to live and work in the U.K. ha had to go along to their office in person with his passport so fortunately that bi is sorted.

The acceptable list is the usual utility bills, govt issued letters, drivers licence (though clearly only a full one!) etc. I asked DH this morning if he can put DS’ mobile phone into his own name going forward to avoid this, but hopefully DS will get a statement sorted from the bank.
