17 Year Old- Proof of Residency?

I need suggestions! DS(17) is doing a week’s work experience this summer with Ernst Young and amongst the hundreds of proof of things documents that he needs to send them, he needs something fo proof of residency.

We’ve tried his learners permit (rejected) and his NI letter (rejected as more than three months old). He doesn’t have any utility bills in his name and his banking is all done online so no bank statements. He just got an NHIC Card, but the letter says it isn’t proof of residency- not sure if that’s just the card that can’t be used, though and maybe he could use the letter as it’s issued by the NHS? Clutching at straws here!

What do 17 year olds use as proof of residence? Or any ideas as to where he could quickly get a letter from somewhere acceptable?

I think you will find that most employers will not accept a mobile phone bill. I had to supply 2 proof of address recently and although I had a full licence I struggled with the 2nd as all bills and banking are online. I had a paper bill for council tax but it was out of date (over 3 months old). Luckily just before I traipesed into town to queue in the bank for half an hour my new council tax bill arrived. First time I've ever been pleased to see it.

Have you got his National Insurance letter that he got at 16? I think that will have his name/address on.

Fox Yea, that was the second document he tried, but because it was sent to him when he turned 16 (a year ago), they wouldn’t accept it because it was more than three months old. I have discovered that you can get an updated letter from your HMRC account. It doesn’t have a date at the top, but at the bottom it says HMRC 06/19 so he has sent that off while waiting to phone the bank at break time.

Hurrah! He phoned his bank and he’ll have a statement posted to him by the end of next week. Thanks everyone. Grin

What a palaver. Glad it's sorted 👍

To volunteer at my sons school now you need to provide a passport or birth certificate and recent payslip to show your right to work. That’s rather pointless. Birth certificates and payslips aren’t evidence of a person’s right to work in the UK and permission to work can either be given or curtailed without that appearing in their passport.

Personally I woulD query why the6 aren’t accepting a provisional driving licence as the Government’s guidance is that a driving licence (full or provisional) is a group 1 document for establishing ID
