And they win £100K do you expect some of the winnings or do you just think meh lucky git. Totally hypothetical situation just wonders what you'd think or do Grin

You go into the bathroom, lock the door, bury your face in a towel and scream. Then you send them a text saying "lucky you".

Soola · 20/06/2019 15:35

I wouldn’t expect a share unless it was in the millions.

anitagreen · 20/06/2019 15:37

Ooh I think I'd do that dramatic thing of being really happy for them then sobbing in a corner telling everyone I'm okay and it just wasn't my turn to win Blush

I’d say mine’s a vodka and coke for the next night out :o

Rystall · 20/06/2019 15:56

No... I would absolutely not expect some of the winnings.. it was a gift after all! I’d genuinely be thrilled for them. However, if I received a gift like that, I would offer some of the winnings or at least buy them a really beautiful gift.

CannyLad · 20/06/2019 15:56

As I handed it over I'd say "Halvsies if you win" and wink. Clearly if they took the card they accepted the terms and I would hound them through the courts if they reneged on the agreement. And also bitch about them on here. In an identifying way. Yeah, sweet revenge!

Chancewouldbeafinethlng · 20/06/2019 15:59

It would be nice to be thanked in some way, but I think I would be easy to please. A free takeaway would keep me happy Grin

If it was the other way around I would expect to keep the winnings

bringthethunder · 20/06/2019 15:59

@CannyLad Grin Ditto!

Spinmynipplenuts · 20/06/2019 16:01

My sister doesn’t give lottery tickets or scratch cards as gifts in case this happens!

I’d wish them well. It’s always a chance when you give someone one.

BlueMerchant · 20/06/2019 16:05

I'd expect 1-2K.
If I won on a card someone had bought me I'd happily give that amount on a win of 100K. Just a token amount really.

Morgan12 · 20/06/2019 16:05

I would never gift something like this just incase this situation happened. Would cause fall outs I reckon.

Rickandportly · 20/06/2019 16:12

No but I’d expect a bloody nice meal out on them!

Readytogogogo · 20/06/2019 16:12

A gift's a gift...

DumbledoresCrookedNose · 20/06/2019 16:38

Legally, no you can't expect anything.
In reality, if I was the recipient... I'd go no publicity and never mention it to anybody.

postitnot · 20/06/2019 18:25

I bought one for my DH for his birthday... I'd fully expect to get half!

Jammiebammie · 20/06/2019 18:28

We gave out lottery scratch cards at our wedding, a few people won small amounts but one person won £1k. They offered to share with us but we told them to enjoy! We did receive a nice bottle of champagne to say thanks.

Asta19 · 20/06/2019 19:02

This is exactly why I would never buy someone a scratch card as a gift! If someone bought me one and I won I would probably take them out for a nice meal, drinks etc and pay for that but no I wouldn't give them half.

Welder · 20/06/2019 19:25

Absolutely I'd expect something!

anitagreen · 20/06/2019 19:26

Interesting replies my Nan knew someone who bought the other person a lottery ticket they won something like 67K and didn't even offer them a drink out and they knew the person was struggling so bad, think that put me off ever giving them out Grin

Deemail · 20/06/2019 19:28

I'd expect half, and I'd give half.

FurrySlipperBoots · 20/06/2019 19:34

This is why I don't give scratchcards worth more than £5000 to anyone other than my immediate family! Up to £5000 I could just be happy for them. My family up to £1000 is all theirs, but any more I reckon they should put something towards a family holiday or something at least. I wouldn't accept as much as half because the scratchcard was a present, not a syndicate!

Soubriquet · 20/06/2019 19:35

You go into the bathroom, lock the door, bury your face in a towel and scream. Then you send them a text saying "lucky you".

This....I think I would be gutted if they won a major amount.

ChangesAt30 · 20/06/2019 19:50

This is why I don't buy scratch cards or lottery tickets for anyone other than DH.

I'd be fucking devastated Grin

HeronLanyon · 20/06/2019 19:57

I bought my ma one as a surprise pressie. She won around £7. Next visit there was £3.50 in an envelope with my name on ! I rather wish she had won more given her generosity.
I bought one for my sister and we then had a lengthy ‘discussion’ - turns out she felt strongly if she won under £10k she would keep it all but if over £10k she would give me ‘something’. I laughed it off but was shocked !

anitagreen · 20/06/2019 20:09

A funny one my mum bought us all a £1 one for Christmas once my brothers won nothing I won £20 they was fuming and demanded I split! £20!!! I didn't Confused
