Pram lining designs are boring for baby?

Hi Mumsnet, I am looking at prams and have noticed the inside linings that the baby looks at are so boring! Plain or dark colours with no pattern, does this make your baby bored? Or does the baby not notice? Thanks!!

In my experience baby isn’t bothered about the linings, they either fall asleep or are busy looking out at parent/world/toy. Then before you know it they won’t stay in the buggy and want to push it or walk beside it or just run off in the other direction....

AuntMarch · 18/06/2019 19:53

They look at you (or the sky/trees), not the lining!

Sirzy · 18/06/2019 19:54

You aren’t supposed to put them into the seat face first so it won’t be an issue!

.....

You know newborns sleep like 20 hours a day, and if they aren’t sleeping they’re looking for food, to be changed or to be held?

They don’t care much about the lining of their pram

Thegirlhasnoname · 18/06/2019 20:00

The baby is asleep most of the time and when they are older the outside world is far more interesting to look at. Cosatto do prams/pushchairs with jazzy lining though if it will make that much of a difference

babyburrito1 · 18/06/2019 20:01

I bought a pram bumper for the carrycot once DD was a couple of months old and getting frustrated/bored with the limited view. She does like it and will sometimes fall asleep staring at the patterns or into the small mirror. The one I bought was from Amazon and black & white on one side, colour on the other, so suitable from the very early weeks.

Kpo58 · 18/06/2019 20:01

How the pram looks is purely for the parents benefit and not the baby's.

Exexexcel · 18/06/2019 20:02

Is that a joke? Your baby will be fine Confused

FamilyOfAliens · 18/06/2019 20:03

What a lovely, uncomplicated life you must lead, OP.

GrapefruitIsGross · 18/06/2019 20:06

I’m going to start an Etsy shop selling pram liners made from pages ripped out of Ulysses and enclyclopedia Britanica.

I’m sorry for teasing op, but honestly one day you will look back thinking “Was I on glue?”

Inglenooks · 18/06/2019 20:08

To be fair, we have a Cosatto and my 13 month old still looks at the lining sometimes and has enjoyed looking at it from a couple of months old. It's not something I thought about when buying it but I think it's nice that she likes it!

Eslteacher06 · 18/06/2019 20:11

Babies don't give a shiny shite about the lining of a pram. Honest!

HJWT · 18/06/2019 20:11

😂

EmeraldIsle81 · 18/06/2019 20:12

Thanks for the helpful, positive responses, very kind of you to take the time to help me. As for the rude, negative comments you aren't going to get me down. I want to do the best job I can for my baby and asking for help from other people on a public forum like Mumsnet is a good thing to do. It doesn't give anyone the right to judge, ridicule or insult me. Shame on you.

My DC absolutely loved having a patterned pram and pushchair. Wouldn't stop looking at it! And it instantly stopped any grizzling. Look at Cosatto's.

Rarfy · 18/06/2019 20:20

My dd is 5.5. Months old and still falls asleep almost every time she goes in her pram. The motion sends her off.

If you want funky though cosatto is worth a look. The do lots of colourful designs.

ourkidmolly · 18/06/2019 20:22

I bought one of these for my baby. She loved it.

Pram lining designs are boring for baby?
seven201 · 18/06/2019 20:23

I bought a kind of pram liner thing that clips to the inside of the pram around the head area. Was about £10 off amazon. One side black and white (new babies can't see colour) and the other side colourful. I bought it in desperation as my baby hated the pram. Didn't work for her but I have seen happy babies gazing at theirs.

seven201 · 18/06/2019 20:24

@ourkidmolly that's the one!

Ohyesiam · 18/06/2019 20:26

I had one baby who would get really over stimulated by bright patterns, and one who loved them. I know that’s not helpful, but babies are unpredictable.

babyburrito1 · 18/06/2019 20:26

@ourkidmolly that's the one we have too. It works for us. OP, not sure why you're getting so much stick, it seemed like a perfectly reasonable question to me!

magneticmumbles · 18/06/2019 20:27

You're right OP, most people have been very judgmental and actually factually incorrect here. Anyone who knows anything about child development knows that babies can't see that far, so no, they are not looking out at the world. They gain a lot from bold shapes and patterns that are close up. It's visually and mentally stimulating for them. Why are we advised to show babies books with bold shapes if not for the fact that it is good for their brains and eyes?? So I can only see a pram/push chair hood with this as a good thing.

Their experience of under stimulating surroundings does not prove that the majority of babies really enjoy/don't enjoy it. If they don't want to consider it for their kids, then so be it. Doesn't make you silly for actually following the evidence.

Homemadearmy · 18/06/2019 20:28

Cosatto prams tend to have lovely lining.

Soubriquet · 18/06/2019 20:28

The babies don’t care

And I didn’t spend a fortune on linings in prams either which meant when they were stuffing their face with food, I wasn’t sobbing my heart out over destroyed pram lining

Her0utdoors · 18/06/2019 20:35

The inside of my pram has a pattern made of banana, pear, mud, Greggs baked goods and dog hair. Stimulating? Possibly. Unsanitary? Yep.
