Would you think this was a weird menu?

I’m planning a vegan dinner party and I was wondering about the following menu?

Homemade focaccia with slow roasted garlic, roasted artichokes and marinated fennel and a white bean pate

Mushroom biryani and and curried beetroot

rhubarb tarte tatin and (vegan) ice cream

Would that be ok for you? or is it weird to serve curry with the other two courses?

I really fancy mushrooms and beetroot for the main so anyone got any other suggestions?

Ta ever so

I don’t think the foods go together as part of a theme as such, but I do think they sound really tasty and would happily eat them if I was offered them.

DNAwrangler · 18/06/2019 18:53

Sounds good to me!

maslinpan · 18/06/2019 18:54

Each course sounds great, but the curry would be a bit of an intruder! Maybe you could do stuffed mushrooms for main, salad on the side with roasted baby beetroot, so there is a balance of flavours?

I’m not vegan nor even vegetarian. I am interested in vegan food though and like flavour. I think it sounds delicious and would love it if you cooked those dishes for me.

NeutralJanet · 18/06/2019 18:56

Could you change the focaccia to a garlic naan bread instead? It would go better with the curry but either way it sounds tasty. The only part I wouldn't like is the dessert because I dislike rhubarb but that's just my personal taste.

MakeLemonade · 18/06/2019 18:58

What about a mushroom risotto or mushroom stroganoff instead of the curry? You could serve with a beetroot salad on the side.

NailsNeedDoing · 18/06/2019 18:59

The curry sounds nice, although I'd prefer mixed veg, but I don't like the sound of the other two courses tbh. There are so many lovely fruits, vegetable and salad items that I can't understand why you'd choose less popular things like rhubarb and artichoke. Unless the people you are serving this to are already vegan, you really won't be selling it. Sorry.

Greensleeves · 18/06/2019 18:59

I would really enjoy the change in cuisine between the courses, personally. Vegan food can be crushingly dull and your meal sounds anything but.

ScreamingValenta · 18/06/2019 18:59

It sounds lovely - I'd wolf that down and I'm neither vegan nor vegetarian.

BogglesGoggles · 18/06/2019 19:09

The Briyani is a bit random. Why not pasta/risotto/tart instead?

Plump82 · 18/06/2019 19:16

That all sounds so tasty and id love if youd share the recipe for the starter.

SleepyTraveller · 18/06/2019 19:18

Sounds good to me. I wouldn't swap to mushroom risotto as it's often the only veggie option on a menu, so people might be fed up with it if they eat out regularly.

Pasty-based dessert might be slightly heavy after the other courses, but that's a real nit-pick, not a problem.

Passthecherrycoke · 18/06/2019 19:19

It sounds really nice but I don’t really understand the mushroom curry and beetroot combo. Maybe a beetroot based starter if you really fancy it?

Queenoftheashes · 18/06/2019 19:19

It’s a plant theme so I think it works. And it sounds tasty.

SingingTunelessly · 18/06/2019 19:21

Starter and pudding sound great. Main course errrr nope.

MyNewBearTotoro · 18/06/2019 19:21

Sounds delicious to me.

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 18/06/2019 19:22

i'd do some sort of naan to go with the biryani and something else for a starter

or keep the starter and dessert and rethink the main, bearing in mind lots of folks are queer about beetroot

Medievalist · 18/06/2019 19:24

Sounds fabulous. Though I am on my way home having been in meetings and only had half a sandwich all day. If I walked through the door and that was put in front of me I'd be ecstatic!

Keepthebloodynoisedown · 18/06/2019 19:28

All sounds good, but wouldn’t change theme that much between courses.
I’d swap the main for something like a beet wellington, or a mushroom and beetroot bourguignon.

bwydda · 18/06/2019 19:35

It all sounds great.

If I were to change to adapt to theme I would make elephant ear naan, kachumber, and dhal in place of the focaccia, roast veg and pate. Basically an Indian inspired equivalent.

But it's not necessary- I wouldn't care a jot about the change in styles

dirtymopbucket · 18/06/2019 19:38

Sounds lovely and I wouldn't be bothered about the change in styles. I'd add some toasted cashews to the biryani for protein.

moscovv · 18/06/2019 19:43

sounds so good, I would like the recipe for the focaccia please! the meals don't especially 'go' but as long as they taste nice, which they sound like they will, then what does that matter really!

SpaSushi · 18/06/2019 20:14

Rhubarb and beetroot can be marmite love it/ hate it foods

Ohyesiam · 18/06/2019 20:16

Mmmm
Yes please

TheRedBarrows · 18/06/2019 20:21

I’m queer about beetroot Grin

It is a bit odd having the biriani in ne middle. But sounds good anyway.
