Would you think this was a weird menu?

I’m planning a vegan dinner party and I was wondering about the following menu?

Homemade focaccia with slow roasted garlic, roasted artichokes and marinated fennel and a white bean pate

Mushroom biryani and and curried beetroot

rhubarb tarte tatin and (vegan) ice cream

Would that be ok for you? or is it weird to serve curry with the other two courses?

I really fancy mushrooms and beetroot for the main so anyone got any other suggestions?

Ta ever so

Not a veggie or a vegan but all of the above sounds bloody lovely.

stucknoue · 18/06/2019 20:24

For the main I would suggest a puff pastry layers pie with a mushroom layer, a beetroot layer and a spinach layer served with new potatoes and green beans and roasted butternut squash serve with a vegan Madeira gravy (available from Morrison's)

I’d love all of this apart from the beetroot with the curry.

Sounds awesome. Each dish is from a different cuisine from around the world, but I don’t think that matters.

If you would like to do a trial run, i’ll Be in about 6pm tommorow. Smile

I think a bread-and-bean-based first course followed by a curry and then a pastry-based pudding might be a bit heavy for a dinner party... Could you do the marinated fennel more like a salad to start, or serve the rhubarb as a compôte with your ice-cream to lighten things up a little?

AdaColeman · 18/06/2019 20:41

I like the sound of the first course very much, but I don't think the curried main course really goes with the first course.
I'd do a mushroom pasta dish instead of the curry, if you wanted to keep the mushrooms.

But to me, mushrooms and beetroot are autumn ingredients, and I would prefer something more seasonal, such as Pasta Primavera or a summer vegetable paella.

SouthWestmom · 18/06/2019 20:44

I'd prefer tomato with focaccia and definitely no beetroot.

LazyFace · 18/06/2019 20:55

It sounds very good. But... mushrooms can cause bloating, vegan/veggie food anyway. Not sure how long the guests are planning to stay. Be prepared of the aftermath. :-)

MyGastIsFlabbered · 19/06/2019 12:47

Can I come?

ImFreeToDoWhatIWant · 19/06/2019 13:31

Starter and dessert sound lovely but the main is completely out of place, sorry. Agree with others, change it to a risotto.

HappyNOTdriving · 19/06/2019 14:18

Well I absolutely can not stand mushrooms so I wouldn't be thinking yummy at that particular element (although the biryani sounds good if it wasn't mushroom) but overall everything else sound lovely!

I don't always think all courses need to follow a theme as long as I like all the dishes. Obviously if in a particular restaurant I'd not be happy if the cuisine of the restaurant chosen wasn't available but at home as long as it tastes good I'm happy.

Sounds lush to me

ElizaPancakes · 19/06/2019 14:24

Personally I absolutely hate mushrooms and also the aniseedy taste of fennel, I also don’t much like rhubarb.

The base recipes sound fine but if I was your guest I’d appreciate a heads up otherwise we’d both be upset and embarrassed when I didn’t eat anything!

(The above makes me sound hideously picky - I’m not really I promise!)
