Is 40 (mother) and 46 (father) too old to have a baby? Anyone else this age when they had one?

Not our first. 40 and 46 feels pretty old to be having a baby though Confused. And I keep reading about all the things that could go wrong.

Anyone else do it at this age (especially interested in the man being 46). We are both very “young” for our age, I suppose. We look young are very fit and healthy. But it still sounds and feels quite old for a baby...

We had our first when I was 42 and my husband 46. That was after 3 miscarriages, which were investigated and cause found fortunately.

My mum had me when she was 44 and my dad was 46. I was fine in every sense. I got pregnant at 39 and had my dd when my DP and I were both 40. Again no problem.

The worry that something would go wrong with my DD was terrible but I have to say that the doctors and nurses I encountered all seemed pretty relaxed about my concerns. I think this is because I live in a very ‘naice’ town and it’s very common for mums to be 40+

I'm 40, currently 24 weeks pregnant, my partner is 46. We had our first baby last year at 39 & 45. He was a wee bit premature but doing great now, and all seems well with this one. We're both in good health and I'm probably lucky in that I got pregnant very easily and have easy pregnancies-I might feel differently if I was throwing up every 5 minutes! I guess you have to weigh everything up, but I don't think age is a massive factor if everything else is in place. Go for it I say!
