We aim for twice though this year it will be 4 times. One will b 5 nights abroad. One is 5 nights in the uk and the other 2 have been a cheapy caravan for a long wkend and a long weekend for a family birthday.

This has not been an average year!

Chewbecca · 19/06/2019 20:12

Am curious to know why you are asking?

anothernotherone · 19/06/2019 20:26

What about you @Sowhataboutthat - how often do you take your children away on holiday?

Is it in the spirit of MN to post asking for personal information and never respond in kind on the thread, only returning to bump the thread? Is this some kind of upwork.com high volume, low quality journalistic content farming?

Not adding anything meaningful by this point makes Sowhataboutthat appear as though he or she isn't posting as a fellow MNer but to harvest content without contribution, that does leave a very nasty taste when you've replied in good faith.

Looks as though this poster has form too:

@caramelchaos I have a friend who doesn't take the children on holidays. They have lots of days out, and day trips to the coast. However holidays are just not a priority for her or her husband. Her children don't seem bothered. She thinks they are just extra work, would rather come back to her own house after a day out, and not interested. Her husband is self employed and doesn't like to make himself unavailable for work.

I always think that this friend has a much nicer car than we do, and it's probably from the money saved on holidays. My friend has always loved a fancy car.

When I was reading your post @hairytoity, I was wondering if it was actually me that was your friend....then I got to the bit about the nice car and realised it wasn't me at allGrin

Two one week holidays, one abroad in May or Oct and one in the UK in the summer hols.

Then usually 3 or 4 weekends away, either caravan or visit to relatives/ friends.

When DCs were smaller we'd do more long weekends but when DD1 started school we became a bit more restricted.

Burpsandrustles · 20/06/2019 00:08

Oh. We are being harvested are we. 🤔

SwimmerGirl40 · 20/06/2019 11:15

DD is 2 so we aren’t tied to school hols. That said, can’t be bothered with the stress of airports so we just go to 2 different UK seaside towns. One in June and one in September. TTC again now do suspect it will be a few years before we have a foreign holiday (unless we drive).

That said, I worked in Aus and the Far East for four years and have been round the world 3 times, so don’t feel too deprived.

When my children were children we had a holiday abroad about once every 3 years. It was all I could afford.

Onatreebyariver · 20/06/2019 11:26

Skiing once or twice a year. Maybe a long weekend in France. Usually a week at Center parcs. Some day trips to a beach resort.

Ellapaella · 20/06/2019 14:44

One summer holiday in Devon, go to the same place every year for 10 days in August.
Usually 5-7 days either at Easter or May half term, this year its hopefully Portugal the end of September, not always abroad sometimes we just do Center Parcs or forest holidays.
We have a camper van so lots of short one night breaks away reasonably local on weekends from May- September.
I take the kids to see my family down south in the Cotswolds for one or two weeks over school holidays as well which they see as a holiday.
