What couldn’t you live without in your kitchen?

I’m back on the kitchen planning again.

So I’m thinking boiling water tap? Is it worth it? No kettle is hugely appealing!

What about a waste thingy in the plug hole?

Pop up sockets on the island?

What else would you recommend?

I wouldn’t bother with pop up sockets on the island- we have flat ones with a cover that slides over

myfingersarenotsogreen · 16/06/2019 21:31

5 ring hob. I don’t use them all at the same time but it gives loads more room and space for larger pans like a wok.

myfingersarenotsogreen · 16/06/2019 21:32

Oh and a draining board.

IHeartKingThistle · 16/06/2019 21:36

Waste disposal for sure. And bookshelves!

Orangedaisy · 16/06/2019 21:42

We like our boiling water tap, water softener and enormous fridge and freezer (separate and free standing to get biggest capacity).

Orangedaisy · 16/06/2019 21:42

And bookshelves definitely a bonus

BaaBaaBaaMoo · 16/06/2019 21:43

Yes to boiling water tap. Life changing!
A pantry type cupboard to hide away toasters and mixers etc.
Induction hob.

Boiling water tap, had mine 6 years and I wouldn't be without it.

All our cupboards are larder pull outs with hidden drawers or just drawers. No reaching over stuff to get to the back of the cupboard.

Filtered water and ice from the fridge freezer, again installed 6 years ago when we did a kitchen extension. The children have never drank so much water and I surprised myself with how much I drink too.

Induction hob where I can combine cooking areas. Absolutely love it.

nomushrooms · 16/06/2019 21:52

Biggest dishwasher you can buy.

Dark grout if tiling splashbacks. Ditto matte tiles.

I’d give my right arm for a sparkling water tap.

RJnomore1 · 16/06/2019 21:52

Okay I am golden! Most of these included even the sofa.

I need to look at:
Sockets which slide over
Water softener(what is it? I don’t think we are in a hard water area so might not need it?)

Deep pan drawers ✔️
Sofa ✔️
Waste disposal is back IN
Pull out larder ✔️
Dishwasher ✔️

Anything else? Bookshelves there is space for but the dining room has the cookery books on a bookcase and everything else is in the spare bedroom on many many bookcases. Perhaps coffee table books or a magazine rack would be better!

A tick ✔️ to filtered water/ice fridge freer too

And the boiling water tap is definitely in now

The quietest powerful extractor fan you can find. Mine is rubbish.

I was coming on here to say I'd miss my stove-top moka pot that I've had since I was a student.

I’ve had my boiling water tap for 11 years and I love it. I got it when I had 3 LOs as it’s much safer.

If you have space, two dishwashers. Best thing in our kitchen, especially if you cook a lot or have a larger family.

I’d hate a waste disposal unit as I like to compost food waste, not flush it into the sewage system.

reluctantbrit · 16/06/2019 22:48

5 ring job, great for space and looks so much nicer.

1 1/2 sink or if space would allow it 2 full size. Decent draining board.

Full granite worktops, easy to clean, can survive a hot pot.

I would be careful with a water softener linked to the main. We have one at the office and the tea taste absolute disgusting. We have a Brita filter, takes space but so much better.

If I would do my kitchen again I would put a water carbonator directly at the main though. I only saw it once and can’t remember the brand but the amount of sparking water we drink def would make it worthwhile. The free standing carbonator one we have takes up room I don’t have.

We are not big sparkling water drinkers so I’m happy with the chilled filter on the fridge. It sounds amazing if you are though.

Can anyone find a 5 ring gas on glas black hob that will fit a 700 mm cabinet?? I’m struggling...make not important for the hob
