Isofix backless booster seat?

Hoping to buy a good one. I really want isofix, so I don’t have anything loose rattling around in the car when it’s not being used.

Do they even sell them in the UK? High backed boosters are safer

LoisLittsLover · 15/06/2019 14:46

Don't think these are legal due to safety

LooksBetterWithAFilter · 15/06/2019 14:49

They are still legal but they have increased the weight and height they can be used from. If you still have one with the old details on it you can continue to use it it shouldn’t be sold another one for a child to young/light/short.
The op doesn’t say what age of child it’s for so it’s entirely possible it is an older child within the correct limits.

The sell backless boosters, but I can’t find an isofix backless booster anywhere and I’m sure you used to be able to buy them.

I know high back are safer, which is why my nearly 12 year old is still in one, but she'll still be well under 135 cm when she starts secondary school, so was looking for a backless one for then. Going to high school in a high back booster will only give certain children something else to pick on her for.

Height is more important than age for safety.

X-posts.

Sorry for sounding tetchy. I keep drawing a blank and people keep saying, ‘she doesn’t need one when she’s 12’.

I don't think I've ever seen an isofix one.

Oldraver · 15/06/2019 15:28

I have one..it's a Graco and I bought it from Halfords a couple of years ago.

Oldraver · 15/06/2019 15:31

Graco Connext

It has Isofix connection straps and they do hold the booster in really firmly.

You may have to shop around for it now

I admit we ditched the booster after the summer hols when dd was 11.5, she was 135cm in shoes. Her weight and body shape was fine for the normal seatbelt which also needs to be taken into account (relatively short legs). Baring in mind that when my kids were 4 they didn't legally need to have a booster at all (the law changed the following year but most of their friends parents didn't bother whereas mine already had them because they were petite) worrying about an 11 year old needs to be put into context

LemonGingerCakes · 15/06/2019 15:52

I’ve just found this, but I’ve never heard of the manufacturer (I’d rather a dedicated car seat manufacturer than one making them in the side - but maybe they are well known in Germany?j.).

heyner.co.uk/products/child-car-seats/isofix-booster-seat-safeupfix/

My dd is 127 cm. Technically only just tall enough for a low back booster, anyway. I’d rather keep her in a hbb, but at high school it worries me that it would become an excuse to target her for bullying (some of the girls who went up last year have already had form for this. I don’t want them to start again).

Thank you, I’ll investigate those links.

The price of the Heyner one is rather steep, though...

What does this mean?

The 'one doesn’t meet ECE standards.

I don't think Isofix backless boosters exist.

LemonGingerCakes · 15/06/2019 16:15

They used to, but seem to have disappeared after the law was changed. It doesn’t help us though...

Britax have one, but the back has to be screwed off and it costs £175... not affordable!

They exist. Just google it OP.

DeathMetalMum · 15/06/2019 16:20

We have the joie trillo which is hbb with isofix. It might be possible to remove the back.

TheJoxter · 15/06/2019 16:24

We have one that’s a high back booster but the back can come off, I think it’s a joie

dementedpixie · 15/06/2019 16:32

I would just get a standard one and place it on the floor in the back when not in use. Shouldn't move about much then.

LemonGingerCakes · 15/06/2019 17:09

They exist. Just google it OP.

I’ve been googling...

I can find names I’ve never heard of and don’t meet the correct standards.

I can see ones that I cannot buy anymore.

I haven’t been able to find it as yet. Google adjusts search results to the person and different people get different search results...

I don’t want to just put it on the floor - in the even of a crash, it would go flying around...

Try Peg perego isofix backless booster on Amazon. This is the only one I found when I looked. I didn’t buy it as at the time it was more expensive than it is now.

There must not be much of a market for them then. You can't buy what doesn't exist. You either buy a normal one, let her legally travel without one at age 12 or stick to a high backed booster

justbeniceplease · 15/06/2019 17:16

They do exist though.
