Hoping to buy a good one. I really want isofix, so I don’t have anything loose rattling around in the car when it’s not being used.

There must not be much of a market for them then. You can't buy what doesn't exist. You either buy a normal one, let her legally travel without one at age 12 or stick to a high backed booster

There isn’t much of a market, because people rush to remove the booster, even if it’s not safe to do so. There’s less of a market since the laws changed.

I know those are the three options, but I’m asking here in the hope that there is the fourth optionIm hoping for.

I know she can legally travel without one from 12, but it is height, not age that makes a difference regarding her safety. She’s the same height as some of my friends 7 year old children.

She is already picked on due to her height. I would keep her in a hbb, but I am worried about giving the old bullies a target to start again. Plus when you’re tiny, you don’t want to take the 'young person' option all of the time...

Forgive me for taking car safety seriously. Maybe I will have to buy a 'normal ' one, but I’m trying to see if there are options.

Thank you for those suggestions - I will check them out.

A backless booster is from 125cm and 22kg. Does she meet both requirements? If its just height then it’s probably safer for her to stay in the high back booster as she’s only a tiny bit over the height limit.

If you are worried about the seat being loose, just strap it back in when not in use.

Yes, she’s 127cm and over 22kg. She’s also 11 years old. When she’s 12, she won’t be anywhere near 130cm (and actually seat belts are for 150cm+ ideally...).

If she weren’t going to secondary school in September, she’d be staying in the hbb for as long as possible.

135cm even.

Ideally , yes it’s this simple, but realistically when things are busy, it won’t get strapped in all the time

We're in Germany and have Isofix backless boosters. I'll try and fine out the name of them (car not here!)

The Graco Connext seems to have what you're looking for - big brand backless booster with isofix straps, EU 44 standards, under 30 quid. But it's hard to get in the UK.

There are some shops in mainland Europe that deliver to the UK - quick google found this one https://www.babyaisle.eu/en/product/64923,graco-connext-car-seat-with-latch-system-22-36-kg-diablo

My high backed booster is isofix and the high back part detaches - is that an option?

Gottalovesummer · 15/06/2019 20:40

I have backless booster seats and also don't want them loose in the car when not in use.

So I pop them in the boot.

LemonGingerCakes · 15/06/2019 21:52

@ALoneLonelyLoner (hopper you’re not!) thank you, that would be really helpful.

@geekaMaxima thank you.

@Nix32 which one is it?

@Gottalovesummer why do I detect condescension and abrasiveness in your reply? I’m just asking for advice, you don’t have to respond. Yes, I could put it in the boot, but not without taking it out, round the back and opening the boot. Easy. Unless you’re in a rush/ it’s bad weather/ can’t be bothered. I’m looking for a solution - and there does seem to be a solution if I can just locate one.

With hbb, the isofix holds them rock steady. Without, Ive found they can slip around (and even start to lean inwards if the car seat is not flat). I really do prefer isofix for many reasons. I am surprised it’s not actually a matter of course.
