Do you rinse your plates before you put them on the drainer?

I just saw a similar post on here and am curious to see whether any of you either

  1. fill your sink up with plenty of hot water and bubbles, wash them and immediately put them on the drainer without rinsing

  2. wash your plates while running the water and rinsing them at the same time

I used to do 1, but my husband started complaining his mugs and plates tasted of washing up liquid lol so I rinse them all now! It's not as satisfying but it will do Halo

I do 2, DP does 1 and we never agree who does it the "best way"

SemperIdem · 12/06/2019 16:46

I rinse, my partner doesn’t. We both find the other annoying.

Onacleardayyoucansee · 12/06/2019 16:47

We both do 2.
But he doesnt do it properly.

PuppyMonkey · 12/06/2019 16:48

Dishwasher here, but if we do any hand washing (on holiday etc) we always rinse. Can taste washing up liquid otherwise.

insancerre · 12/06/2019 16:49

No
I don’t rinse
If they taste of washing up liquid then you are using too much
You only need a tiny amount
It’s not the bubbles that do the cleaning

PuppyMonkey · 12/06/2019 16:50

Oh yes and DP does 2, I do 1 - but rinse off the pots afterwards, not just left to drain.

BumandChips · 12/06/2019 16:51

Yes I rinse because the water is dirty.

It’s irrelevant anyway as I have a dishwasher.

KatherineJaneway · 12/06/2019 16:52

I'm 1 but maybe I don't have sensitive taste buds. I wouldn't know if someone had used the same spoon to make a cup of coffee and a cup of tea at the same time but I met someone who did complain as they could 'taste the coffee'.

CitadelsofScience · 12/06/2019 16:55

I have a dishwasher but the stuff that needs handwashing is done no 2. Always have done it that way.

HelloJackie · 12/06/2019 17:07

Rinse, surely if you leave manky-food-mush-soap-water to dry on your plates they are no longer clean?

BusterGonad · 12/06/2019 17:07

1, can't be arsed to rinse, I've never had a problem but my washing up liquid does say it's great to wash fruit and veg with (I'm not in the uk!) but I've always done it this way regardless!

BusterGonad · 12/06/2019 17:08

@HelloJackie surely you rinse the crap off before putting I in the bowl and replace the water when it's dirty? Confused

CremeEggThief · 12/06/2019 17:09
  1. I don't trust most people to wash up, as I know most people don't do it to my standards, which includes rinse, wash up, then rinse again.
Pipandmum · 12/06/2019 17:10

I stayed with a friend and kept on thinking there was an odd taste from the food. Then I said I’d help her wash up and saw why! I always rinse!

HeronLanyon · 12/06/2019 17:11

I do 3. Wash in bowl of hot soapy water putting them unrinsed in middle sink/round edges precariously. I then rinse all under cold tap all at once then onto drainer. Don’t wear gloves so idea of rinsing in hot as it’s filling bowl is painful.

CremeEggThief · 12/06/2019 17:12

KatherineJaneaway, I suffer anxiety around the thought of people using the same spoon to stir tea and coffee. For me, it's as bad as someone using the same sponge/dishcloth for washing up and wiping kitchen surfaces. Yuk!

Kpo58 · 12/06/2019 17:13

I do

c. fill your sink up with plenty of hot water and bubbles, wash them and then rinse them in the half sized since before putting them on the drainer.

I don't understand why people have single sinks as you can't use them for anything else like washing hands or vegetables if you already have things already in there waiting to be washed up.

HeronLanyon · 12/06/2019 17:13

For some reason the idea of not rinsing is disturbing me Grin

DuchessAnnogovia · 12/06/2019 17:14

I wash up, then rinse and whilst the items are on the drainer I pour boiling water over them from the kettle just to make sure there is no soap residue.

HeronLanyon · 12/06/2019 17:19

Oh duchess double rinsing !! This thread is strangely fascinating.

RomanyQueen · 12/06/2019 17:19

Yes, both me and dh do. I taught the kids to do it as well.
I am finicky about washing up in the right order. I don't mind doing it myself but my culture dictates how we do things, like washing up.
Everything rinsed first in one bowl, then bowl cleaned and new water.
Cups and glasses first, anything that has touched the lips. Then plates, then cooking things last.

HelloJackie · 12/06/2019 17:19

Buster please do let me know when you've managed to scrape every crumb, piece of rice and smear of sauce from your plate into the bin....

AintNobodyHereButUsChickens · 12/06/2019 17:20

If DH washes the baby bottles he won't rinse the bubbles out and it drives me mad! The bottles STINK of washing up liquid so I can only imagine what the milk would taste like if I didn't insist on rinsing the bottles out myself Hmm

happyhillock · 12/06/2019 17:23

I alway's rinse the dishes,
