Do you rinse your plates before you put them on the drainer?

I just saw a similar post on here and am curious to see whether any of you either

  1. fill your sink up with plenty of hot water and bubbles, wash them and immediately put them on the drainer without rinsing

  2. wash your plates while running the water and rinsing them at the same time

I used to do 1, but my husband started complaining his mugs and plates tasted of washing up liquid lol so I rinse them all now! It's not as satisfying but it will do Halo

@HelloJackie I'm not being a wind up, but surely if you rinse it before washing/after eating when it's still moist (so to speak) you won't get much residue in your bowl! I always rinse it after eating, then wash up at my leisure. Mind you, I always wear gloves with steaming hot water.

BusterGonad · 12/06/2019 17:42

Sorry HelloJackie I scrape into the bin then rinse in the sink, then leave it until I'm ready to wash up!

Housewife2010 · 12/06/2019 17:44

I always rinse. I don't see this is irrelevant if you have a dishwasher. We have a dishwasher but there's always certain things that we do by hand e.g. sharp knives, bread boards, wine glasses and water bottles.

KatherineJaneway · 12/06/2019 17:48

@CremeEggThief I assume this causes you issues if going to friends or relatives? I assume like mine they make teas and coffee in one batch. Do you just refuse one?

EuromumAussiekid · 12/06/2019 18:21

I wash plates and cutlery sometimes before putting in the dishwasher and rinse them under hot water. Some drain dry and some go into the dishwasher.

EuromumAussiekid · 12/06/2019 18:22

duchess i must try that.

WindsweptEgret · 12/06/2019 18:26

I do 2. I put soap straight on the sponge and soap everything up with the water running a bit, then finish washing and rinse when the water is hot. Hate the idea of plates going straight from dirty water to drainer, and of not rinsing off the soap. Like a bath versus a shower.

For tea and coffee I use different spoons, and different for sugar and no sugar.

HardAsSnails · 12/06/2019 18:34

I've got a double sink, wash up in a bowl in one and then stack and rinse in the other before playing draining rack Tetris.

Itsagrandoldteam · 12/06/2019 18:55

I always rinse the washing liquid off. If you use very hot water, they almost dry themselves.

DramaAlpaca · 12/06/2019 18:57

If washing by hand I always rinse, otherwise I can taste washing up liquid residue on the dishes.

Ringsender2 · 12/06/2019 19:18

I do a combination of @HeronLanyon and @RomanyQueen. Wash cups/glasses first, when water cleanst and hottest. End with pots etc. I build up the sudsy but clean stuff on the draining board, then rinse and put on draining rack. If there's lots, I'll probably have to empty sinkwater, as it gets too cold and diluted by the rinse water. (We don't have a double sink.)

Also agree that other half doesn't do it to same standard. However, he would say I dont wash up enough Grin

HelloJackie · 12/06/2019 19:42

But surely it's easier to wash the plate and rinse it after use? Rather than rinsing, leaving, cleaning and then rinsing again? It would irritate me to leave a plate in the sink when it would have taken me 6 extra seconds to clean, rinse and put it to dry. This is why I love my dishmatic Grin

Pimmsypimms · 12/06/2019 19:53

I do 2 as the washing up water will be dirty.

hellenbackagen · 12/06/2019 20:29

Buy a dishwasher !

CremeEggThief · 12/06/2019 21:07

Always, unless I know them well, and they can make it to my tastes, Katherine.

Housewife2010 · 12/06/2019 22:08

"hellenbackagen
Buy a dishwasher !"
Not everything goes in the dishwasher. I wouldn't put wine glasses, sharp knives or bread boards in one.

ShesABelter · 12/06/2019 22:15

I have a bowl and a half so wash it in the sink and have cold running into the half bowl and rinse then put it on drainer. Not rinsing creeps me out.

DougalsBlueJumper · 12/06/2019 22:23

I always rinse, but would love to not give a shit! We never rinsed when I was growing up and I survived, but for some reason I do it now.

My pet hate is when certain visitors (DP's family) take a drink of water, give the glass a quick rinse and set it on the drainer. Job done. In what universe does that constitute 'clean'?

megletthesecond · 12/06/2019 22:27

I have a dishwasher but always rinse when I have to wash up things by hand.
