Pluviophile

Pluviophile - somebody who loves rain.

I’ve often wondered how common this is. When I was a little girl I had pet rabbits. I played with them for hours. When it rained, instead of going indoors I’d play with them in the green house. I feel like this is probably where it stemmed from. I absolutely love the sound of rain on glass.

Unlike most people who complain when it rains all day, I feel energised by it. It makes me so happy. I can (and have) sat and watched/listened to the rain all day long.

It could rain for 30 days straight and you’d hear no complaints from me!

Anybody else!?

Yes, me. Love any kind of rain but especially when it is on a tent, window pane or car.

My Pinterest is full of gorgeous rainy pictures.

BlackPrism · 12/06/2019 00:31

Chrysalism - the feeing of being somewhere warm surrounded by the sound of rain. Lovely.

student26 · 12/06/2019 00:50

I suffer from tinnitus and on an old phone I had an app just full of rain noises, e.g. a car roof, a tent, a forest, etc. It was the only thing that let me sleep well for ages.

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 12/06/2019 00:58

Me! I have several rain sounds apps on my phone. I enjoy adjusting them for added intensity, thunder, wind etc Grin

I love it. I feel very uneasy if it doesn't rain for a few days. Last Summer was awful. When it finally broke into a downpour of big fat heavy rain I stood in the garden with my arms outstretched like that scene in Shawshank Redemption.

I feel most at ease near water. The sea or a river makes me feel calmer. I've put it down to growing up in the Lakes where it hardly ever stops raining but who knows.

DramaAlpaca · 12/06/2019 01:30

EnidButton I could've written your post, and I also grew up in the Lakes.

Bluerussian · 12/06/2019 01:33

I like rain, enjoy feeling it on my face and it works wonders for my hair. As long as it isn't too heavy and not freezing cold, I'm fine with rain. It also makes everything outdoors look pretty and smell nice.

LadyBathory · 12/06/2019 01:38

When I was a kid I always wanted to go live on kauai island in Hawaii there’s a mountain there where is rains 350 days a year. I always imagined it would be nice warm tropical rain and everyone wore Welles . Used to pretend I was there when I was showering 😊😂

LadyBathory · 12/06/2019 01:39

I love the smell of rain on dirt as well especially when it hasn’t rained in a while 🎂❤️

cheeseislife8 · 12/06/2019 01:40

Yep! Makes me so happy. I'm currently lying in bed listening to it falling

EnidButton · 12/06/2019 01:41

Drama I think we're part rain water.

OneInAMillionYou · 12/06/2019 03:41

I have found my people!

I absolutely love rain. The sound of it, the feel of it, watching it....

I have been as happy as Larry the past couple of days. We really need the rain, it's been so long (south east) since we had some prolonged rainy weather.

weaseley · 12/06/2019 03:46

Yup. I live on the Prairies, and we can go so long without it, but when it comes it is just the best. I can't compare anything else to that blissful feeling of the air being rinsed clean of all the dust and becoming so soothing to inhale again.

MagicKeysToAsda · 12/06/2019 08:16

Joining this team - went for a run in the lashing rain recently, it was hammering off the brim of my hat and I was properly soaked to my skin, could not keep the grin off my face!

PerfectionistProcrastinator · 12/06/2019 08:24

Wow, I didn’t expect to wake up to some many replies from people who feel the same!

I’ve never admitted to anyone the extent of my love for rain. On a rainy day, when people say “ugh, it’s horrible out there”, I nod in agreement but inwardly I’m thinking “please still be raining when I get home so I can enjoy it properly”! I think people would think I’m crazy if I said it out loud!

I’ve also sometimes wondered if I have reverse SAD disorder. I mean I DO enjoy the sunshine too, but I love rain far more.

I could never get a conservatory, I’d never get anything done on a rainy day!

Hooray for rain! I love it, I definitely feel energised when it rains. The sun makes me miserable

mdep · 12/06/2019 08:27

I love the sound of rain. Hate having to go out in it!

Pluviophile is one of those urban dictionary words Grin

LolaVsPowerman · 12/06/2019 08:27

Cross post.. yes to reverse SAD!

Flyinggeese · 12/06/2019 08:27

I’m in this group for sure! Everything’s better in the rain. It’s been gorgeous this week, chucking down.

TheVanguardSix · 12/06/2019 08:28

I stood in the garden with my arms outstretched like that scene in Shawshank Redemption. Minus the turd wash. Grin

I envy you all! I get so deeply sad when it rains. This is totally the wrong climate for me. I so want to love the rain.

Heaviestdirtyestsoul · 12/06/2019 08:38

Sitting all cosy warm in utility room with corrugated plastic roof, built between the house and the shed, it's my favourite place when it's raining. Its brick built with double glazing so keeps nice and warm when the dryer is going- bliss!

Bluerussian · 12/06/2019 12:53

Very pleasant, fine rain today. When I went out it felt quite delicate and refreshing.

RickAstleyGaveMeUp · 12/06/2019 12:55

Sainsburys in Bishops Stortford sounds amazing in the rain. Honestly!

Chartreuser · 12/06/2019 13:00

There is an amazing candle from Haeckels that smells like petrichor, the smell of rain. It is v expensive but let's for ages and the smell is EXACTLY true

GottaGetUp · 12/06/2019 13:01

I've never been overly keen on hot sunny days, but I lived for a couple of years in Singapore, when cloudy rainy days meant it was cool enough to actually spend time outside, so I grew to love the rain. Also thunderstorms, definitely got twitchy if we went a few days without a good storm.

The rain was incredible out there. You didn't go anywhere without an umbrella. I remember a period of really sunny hot days followed by a deluge, the pavement had got so hot it warmed up the water that flowed over your feet. It was like walking through a bath.
