What does your job make you notice?

I work in advertising so I always notice bad fonts, dodgy claims, poor punctuation, use of stock photos and all sorts of things that leave me steaming with annoyance while normal people all around seem to be able to walk past a crap sign without wincing.

Does your job make you notice things the normals don't see?

In the flip side really good stuff makes me happy

Mabelface · 10/06/2019 20:10

Deal with insurance complaints. Just how many people lie (actually, all of our calls are recorded) to claim and just how many people could do with a hobby to get out more.

Pinkarsedfly · 10/06/2019 20:10

Also, the decline in the mental health of young people over the last ten years or so.

The greatly-reduced concentration span of said young people.

I think the dawn of the internet and mobile phones has a lot to answer for.

ssd · 10/06/2019 20:11

I notice good service.... Or the lack of it Angry

FunnysInLaJardin · 10/06/2019 20:12

Properties of any type. I can't walk past somewhere with telling my family 'I did the lease for that'. On Sunday it was a WW2 bunker Grin

DH notices people. He is always saying 'thats an ex student' etc he taught every other person we walk past.

BrightSpells · 10/06/2019 20:12

Ill fitting clothing

mogloveseggs · 10/06/2019 20:16

People are arseholes when drunk.
How far a kind word/chat can go to cheer some people up especially older people.
Reps are over the top cheesy.
You can't please everybody took a while to learn this

Can’t think of anything thread specific to add right now but on the sheep thing:
My aunt used to say sheep have two aims in life; one is to graze next door and the other is to die!! 🤣

Grumpymug · 10/06/2019 20:28

@powershowerforanhour

Oh God yes the rearing! Some people spend years training horses out of this dangerous behaviour and it's usually a sign of distress/pain in a horse not trained to rear on command. That aunt Bessie's advert with the horse makes me sooo mad as an example. The guy's feet are appalling, he boots the horse practically in it's flanks and his hands are atrocious! That poor horse's mouth!

When I was a student, back in the Jurassic period, I did part-time bar work to earn a few quid.

When doing that job, I noticed that many people (almost all of them male) would complain loudly about being ‘skint’ while spending significant amounts of money in the pub & bookies every single day on beer, cigarettes and gambling. It never seemed to ouccur to them that the two were linked...

Thecurtainsofdestiny · 10/06/2019 21:01

On TV I notice inaccurate medical diagnosis and treatment. Why don't the writers do some research?!

In real life I notice things in people's appearance or behaviour that could denote a medical condition.

dillusionaldog · 10/06/2019 21:02

i worked in the legal field and i noticed what shitty starts some people have in life and how they were never given a chance. also how easy it is to walk out of a shop with large fresh meats

joystir59 · 10/06/2019 21:04

Am a cleaner. Notice how messy people are when they eat at their desks.

KimchiLaLa · 10/06/2019 21:05

PR spin. When someone has been media trained. When someone is selling a message to voters/consumers.

BrevilleTron · 10/06/2019 21:20

Dangerous substances. Trip hazards. The damage that can be done to people by others who either don't know or care what they have to do.

How lucky I am that my company paid for me to have this knowledge.

MidsomerBurgers · 10/06/2019 21:25

I worked in a shoe shop about 30 years ago, I still notice the shoes people are wearing before anything else.

managedmis · 10/06/2019 21:28

How tall, white men are more likely to succeed.
How passive women still are.
How some men somehow command respect - height seems to be a big thing.
How men react to women if they're good looking vs average. It's pitiful.
People in general do not read.

whiskeysourpuss · 10/06/2019 21:29

How easy it is to become an employer without knowing a single thing about PAYE or employment law.

Also how easy it is to set up a business without knowing the first thing about what can be considered a business expense not your Xbox subscription & weekly food shop Hmm

Exploration2018 · 10/06/2019 21:34

Badly written scripts on TV/ film for people speaking English as a foreign language. The will say something very grammatically complex and then in the next sentence mess up the simplest of sentences or say the don't understand a very simple sentence.

I also notice errors when certain foreign words are used on signs or logos and the accent/ gender/ spelling is wrong.

ssd · 10/06/2019 21:35

How so many women wear the wrong bra size

notmylittleangel · 10/06/2019 21:41

That people don't talk about death enough.
It happens to everyone.
It is the only inevitable thing yet it is still ignored
Nobody wants to think about it until it is sometimes too late.

Make a will
Talk about your end of life wishes
How do you want your body dealt with

Death is stressful and hard for those left behind. The second guessing about what you would have liked.

No it isn't a nice subject but if we talk about it, it can be easier to deal with.

postitnot · 10/06/2019 21:42

How much sugar children eat and drink; squash in baby bottles, cakes in buggies, sweets as a reward. No wonder so many children are having their teeth extracted under GA and there's an obesity crisis.

DelurkingAJ · 10/06/2019 21:45

How many people can’t do very simple maths.

How often people think it’s funny that they know nothing about science (they wouldn’t if they couldn’t read or write but apparently scientific illiteracy is fine)!

Formerly a research scientist now an accountant.

Justkeepleft · 10/06/2019 21:54

How amazing the brain is, especially kids. How quickly they adapt and pick up language is just mind blowing.
That abilty to speak a language and express your self are different. Sometimes so much can be communicated without words if we are just aware of the context. I notice that more now
