We’re mortgage free at 50 and looking at getting a mortgage that would take ten years to pay off at 30% of our take home pay. No other debts though and minimal other outgoings.

NotMyCircusMonkeys · 09/06/2019 13:32

We are 24 and 25, ours is 22% of our take home pay.

BrilliantYou · 09/06/2019 18:01

38 and 10%

S0CKS · 09/06/2019 18:16

6% of our combined income.

11% of household income. We have some house stuff to do, then build up savings a bit before we start overpaying.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 09/06/2019 18:30

About 7% of my salary. We bought the house in 2000 before the market went crazy, only 6 years left to pay. I'm 40.

OneRingToRuleThemAll · 09/06/2019 18:44

About 30% of household income. I'm early 30's and it will be paid off mid 40's. I was one of the last to get a 100% mortgage so it's halfway through now.

Wheresmrlion · 09/06/2019 19:43

I’m really surprised at how low some of these percentages are. And envious!

I’m 37, mortgage is 27% of joint income. Still got 28 years to pay off on this house but our plan is to move somewhere cheaper in the next couple of years, hammer the mortgage and be mortgage free by 50ish.

I always thought that a mortgage around a third of your income is the norm, lots of variables though of course.

NicoAndTheNiners · 09/06/2019 19:46

Mortgage is 4% of joint income. I'm 42. I pay more for my gym than my mortgage!

PirateWeasel · 09/06/2019 19:48

20% and we're mid thirties. Childcare is 24%. Can't believe our mortgage is no longer our biggest monthly bill!

Damnanddoubledamn · 09/06/2019 19:50

Third of our income, 59 and 55.

TheBestNapIEverHad · 09/06/2019 19:51

Just under a quarter of our joint incomes.

BlueRaincoat1 · 09/06/2019 19:53

Around 25%+ of joint income. Will also have a massive childcare bill. We're 38 and 35. Will be paying the mortgage for 25 years yet.

luckygreeneyes · 09/06/2019 19:53

I’m 32, DH 40. It’s currently 22% ish of joint take home. Hoping to pay off in 10/12 years

luckygreeneyes · 09/06/2019 19:55

Childcare is another 6% our mortgage is pretty huge. So when that drops in a year or 2 we will up overpayments again

Mantalini · 09/06/2019 19:57

30% of joint income. Ages 30 and 31

alwaysdressedinyellow · 09/06/2019 20:02

Early 40s and about 12.5%. Have 4 years to pay off, but aiming to pay off in 2.

notso · 09/06/2019 20:10

About 5%, was smaller but we've recently moved to a bigger property.

MacavityTheDentistsCat · 09/06/2019 20:15

About 12% of joint salaries. Will be paid off by next May though. Hurrah!

PJLove80 · 09/06/2019 20:25

40 and about 15% of joint income - 18 yrs left to go!

MyPatronusIsABadger · 09/06/2019 20:26

75% of my salary but I get a pension mid month so takes it to 50%.
I’ll be mortgage free in 6 years, I’m 34.

SpangledBoots · 09/06/2019 20:27

20% of my monthly income. I'm almost 30. If I get any sort of payrise, I might look to increase that.

RunSweatLaughAndLatte · 09/06/2019 20:34

Can someone tell me how to work it out please

jigsawmaniac · 09/06/2019 20:39

We are 45 and 42 and it's about 17.5% of our joint take home pay.

MacavityTheDentistsCat · 09/06/2019 20:41

Divide the amount of your mortgage by your net salary (or net joint salaries) and multiply by 100.

Hahaha26 · 09/06/2019 20:48

30% of joint take home pay. 4 years left age 47.

I think it’s a high percentage but hopefully for 4 years we can manage.
