Verucca question, possible foot infection? Pic included, don't open while eating breakfast

Hi, my 6 year old has had a large verucca for some time and we have been trying to treat with bazuka. Not sure we're making much progress, just seems to be a big hard lump now. She also has a very small cut/scratch on otherside of foot. Now I think the area between the two is slightly infected, she says it feels extremely itchy and it's slightly red and warmer to touch than surrounding area. What would you guys do?

Ignore and continue to treat verucca

Draw a line around red area and monitor

Find a gp clinic today and get it checked out.

She's well in herself, just want to make sure I'm not missing anything? Any advice gratefully received.

Ooh that looks sore. If it wasn't a Saturday my gut instinct would be practice nurse. How long has it been red for?

miggeldysthepres · 08/06/2019 07:53

I would go to the walk in centre and get that seen today

Gwlondon · 08/06/2019 07:57

Have you been filing the Verucca? There is a little file in her box. Eventually the lump will come out.

I think get some one to check the foot. If you think there might be an infection don’t risk it.

Yep I would see someone today. Does your go do say morning appointments? Failing that walkin centre. It looks infected and I wouldn’t want to wait till Monday to get antibiotics down them.

Gwlondon · 08/06/2019 07:57

Typo ^the

Lovestonap · 08/06/2019 08:00

Thank you for replying. I noticed the redness and heat yesterday. I have drawn around it now, I think the infection/inflammation is tracking from the small cut. I'm reluctant to use a GP appt for something little, but don't want it to get worse..... hmm, maybe will check out if there is a local walk in centre.

Yes I have been filing it but she doesn't let me file particularly hard! Also she won't let me try and peel it off.

I've never found bazuka any good. We used the Boots own freeze treatment, 3 treatments later and the verucca fell out, job done.

Thecrown3 · 08/06/2019 08:16

I think that looks infected and would take to a pharmacist to look at- they can tell you whether needs more urgent care or not

MustardScreams · 08/06/2019 08:19

Yes definitely get it checked. There was a thread on here a couple of years ago about a boy the same age as your dd with an infected verruca and he needed IV antibiotics if I remember correctly.

I wouldn’t personally treat a v in a child that young. Nothing kills a virus and if the acid damages the dermis and it scars she will have a corn form in that area for life.

Is there anything causing her stress at the moment?.

Lovestonap · 08/06/2019 08:34

I left the verucca for a good while because I know that they're viral and will go eventually - however, it got larger and started to cause her discomfort/pain to walk on and so to me it seemed active treatment was indicated.

Pharmacist is a good idea! I always forget about them and they're generally very helpful :)

OP posts:
Lovestonap · 08/06/2019 08:37

No, she's not stressed at the moment, she's a happy little soul.

Her dad's just taking her to her gymnastic lesson, so I will ask him to call in at Boots afterwards, pick up that freeze stuff and see if a pharmacist can have a quick look.

Have just read that linked thread, poor lad that looked so painful! Her's is nothing like that, I think it's probably just a little localised infection from the cut - but I agree it will be a good idea to get another pair of eyes on it.

Pharmacist won’t be able to prescribe antibiotics. They will prob say go to a dr. You are not wasting a gp appointment. If it’s infected the sooner they get antibiotics the better.

LoubyLou1234 · 08/06/2019 09:09

I don't think that's a waste of a gp appointment at all. If it needs a/b a pharmacist can't provide that anyway. If it's infected quicker you start on medication the better .

Lovestonap · 08/06/2019 09:10

and if they say go to a dr then we will :)

Op I don't want to worry you but sepsis and infection is a big thing right now.

I know lady who died from seemingly small cut that got infected. It was tiny, smaller than that . Once it's infected it's a different ball game.

Your dealing with the unknown then.

I do hope she's ok and pharmacist can assist you more.
Personally however I'd re frame the meaning of something so small in terms of infection... and read up about sepsis!

Lovestonap · 08/06/2019 11:14

Yes don't worry I won't ignore this. We'll just take it step by step (no pun intended).

Drasticaction · 08/06/2019 11:22

Great.
You never know which way it's going too go.

As on that other thread they caught it Just in time.
Can't hang around when infection is making its way into the blood and then it strikes with alarming frightening speed.

Lovestonap · 08/06/2019 11:52

as you've advised, apparently Pharmacist has said go to docs. They've recommended against any further treatment until this has happened.
Now I've got to figure out if and where there are any docs available to me on a Saturday.

Thank you all very much for your sound advice.

All areas seem to differ but near me they closed the walk in centre, we have to call 111 and they book an appointment with OOH for you. Hope you can get it sorted today.

Drasticaction · 08/06/2019 12:11

Well done op. As per that other thread just make sure a doctor actually see's it and your not fobed off with phone advice. ...

This is issues with infections...they change and can change rapidly .
For good and for bad.

Drasticaction · 08/06/2019 12:12

Maybe walk in center around you?

BunloafAndCrumpets · 08/06/2019 12:20

If you're in England or Wales, you can call 111 and they will triage and make an out of hours appt near you for your daughter if necessary. Hope you get it sorted. Looks sore.
