Can I wear this to a wedding?

I hope the attachment works.

Yes, I know it breaks the rules, but the navy trim I am hoping kinda mitigates against the cream. I own the dress already. It is lovely on, not bridal. I would wear with a big navy fascinator, nude shoes and a navy handbag.

For context, wedding is a medium sized affair. Local church and then local social club for typical buffet/disco reception. Bride is in a big white dress. Very big skirt.

Is it a no?

It's not a long dress...

PCohle · 05/06/2019 12:25

It's well below the knee on the model who, being a model, I assume is 5'9+. On me, and a lot of women of average height, I expect it would be ankle length.

Turning up to a wedding in a cream dress just ends up with her other guests speculating about what a mad attention seeker you are.

I think it would be fine go with Navy shawl, hat/fascinator & shoes (don't wear nude) and it would be fine.

My cousin-in-law asked me if she could wear white to our wedding, I was fine with it. It's pretty clear the bride is the one walking down the aisle.

However I was really surprised how many of our mutual guests mentioned it during and after the wedding.

Even when it's not a big deal to the bride, other people can be sniffy.

NB: also I make it my mission never to ask the bride/groom anything at all in the run up to a wedding, they've got bigger fish to fry than whether my dress is appropriate, I'd just choose something that was definitely fine.

Navy hat, bag, jacket or wrap and shoes would be absolutely fine. As far as I can see from the picture it is stone/taupe rather than white or cream, perfectly OK.

@Spiceupyourlife and @bighsighall where would you wear it? I don't / won't have any races/christenings to go to.

Omg yes, yes, yes
Since when does that look bridal

GiveMyHeadPeaceffs · 06/06/2019 11:01

Oh I have this same dress and absolutely love it. I wore mine to a wedding last year and no one batted an eyelid or mistook me for the bride. Wear it!

Nonnymum · 06/06/2019 11:06

I don't see why not. I've been to wedfings where some has worn something similar and no one batted an eyelid.
Tbh though I don't get all this concern about wearing cream to a wedding as long as the dredd doesn't look even vaguely why does it matter? I isn't know anyone who really cares.

Nonnymum · 06/06/2019 11:08

Sorry for the typos. I meant to say as long as the dress doesn't look even vaguely bridal what does it matter if the dress is mainly cream. I don't know anyone who would object to someone wearing a cream dress to a wedding.
