Worth a trip to Primark?

WhereForArtThouBray · 03/06/2019 16:30

DD had shot up out of nowhere, literally nothing seems to fit at the moment so I need to replace pretty much everything.

Is it worth a trip to Primark for basics like leggings/tshirts/underwear or is it just as cheap to buy online from the likes of George or peacocks?

I got my boys several T shirts each on Saturday they were £1.80each Shock I don't know if it's as cheap for girls? But there's far more choice for them.

DeadDoorpost · 03/06/2019 17:01

For the bare essentials I'd say yes, especially underwear as it can be replaced without too much cost. Leggings I know for women are around 2.50 at the moment if they're the knee length ones, not sure about girls if she's that young but I'd probably say they'll be similar

I wouldn't go out of your way. Supermarket clothes are better quality. Primark stuff falls apart.

I've never bought a single thing from Primark that's fallen apart. My d buys loads there and it's all been fine for basics and holiday clothes.

MyNameIsCharlesII · 03/06/2019 17:23

Leggings and underwear yes. T shirts if you are ok with slogans and pics. Depends what you like. I’d go to H&M for a job lot of basics.

WhereForArtThouBray · 03/06/2019 17:23

The rate she grows she barley gets much wear out of stuff anyway. She is 11.

I was thinking if I get cheap basics for after school or knocking about the house then I can afford to get her a couple of nicer bits for school non uniform day/ school disco/ days out. Girls are so fashion conscious at that age aren't they!

I was just looking on H & M actually, they have some nice bits in, just wasn't sure if Primark is much cheaper?

Ok I assumed she was younger for some reason. My dd has some nice shorts from Primark but there’s never anything else there that we can agree is acceptable Grin

MyNameIsCharlesII · 03/06/2019 17:26

Primark is prob cheaper but H&M nicer imo.

RoseMartha · 03/06/2019 17:27

I get some kids clothes there and sometimes they last two years.
But there is also good kids clothes at reasonable prices at H and M.

Also I dont know how long its running but Sainsburys currently have 25% off clothes.

WhereForArtThouBray · 03/06/2019 18:16

Thanks everyone. I might just go and have a look round, it's inset day tomorrow so it's one way to kill the day.

I buy cheap from Primark - it doesn't fall apart in the one season that my son is wearing it, before he grows out of that size/season and into another size/season. I don't mind paying £1.80 for t-shirts that I send to charity shops as rags at the end of the summer.

DragonMamma · 03/06/2019 18:23

I’ve rarely had anything that has fallen apart from Primark.

My DD is the same age and loves Primark, New Look and River Island mainly.

Of course, I’d love her to be wearing Boden still but she wouldn’t entertain it. She has dreadful fashion sense but she’s clean and warm (mostly) so I let her get on with it.

I’m just thankful she’s out of the Sportswear stage 🙈

implantsandaDyson · 03/06/2019 19:01

My middle one is the same age - I was in Primark today - bought her denim short dungarees and a jumpsuit type contraption from the kids section. A few pairs of £2.50 shorts - smallest women's size 2XS, a pair of loose joggers/lounging type trousers and she loves the £6 exercise leggings. She also got a few sweatshirts, a hoody and two pairs of converse rip off shoes.Oh and we also did a quick raid of the Marvel/Back to the Future tshirts. I've never found Primark clothes to fall apart and my two older ones wear their Primark sweatshirts to death.

MrsApplepants · 03/06/2019 19:36

I’ve never known any Primark clothes to fall apart either, I don’t think their any better or worse than most fast fashion retailers

EAIOU · 03/06/2019 19:44

None of my primark clothes has ever fallen apart. Definitely worth a look OP!

ForalltheSaints · 03/06/2019 19:51

Have some consideration for the welfare of those who make clothes and avoid Primark.

Longdistance · 03/06/2019 19:52

TU Sainsbury’s range has 25% off at the moment. Really good quality. Order online and send to your nearest store for free over £15 I think (?)

BertieBotts · 03/06/2019 20:38

I was the one who said they fall apart, a few of mine have fallen apart. Adult pyjamas and socks getting holes quicker than those bought elsewhere, items going bobbly in the wash after a few times. Mostly they stretch oddly in the wash, though. I've had a few things from there which do OK. Yes if it's kids' stuff for one season it's usually alright.

x2boys · 05/06/2019 19:38

Yes it's all very well.having principles ,however some of us have limited budgets and still need to dress our children, also what would the welfare of individuals who make these clothes be like if everybody boycotted Primark etc on principle?

Gertie75 · 05/06/2019 19:42

I get most of dd's cheap stuff from Primark, I don't care if a £1.30 t-shirt gets ruined, they do nice dresses too, the footwear isn't great quality though.

BertieBotts · 06/06/2019 07:08

DS just pointed out the joggers I got him from Primark 3 weeks ago have split at the crotch seam Hmm Perhaps they have lower quality standards in Germany?

azulmariposa · 06/06/2019 07:13

Primark stuff is fine.
Knickers I've brought from there have lasted longer than the ones I brought from M&S which had holes appear after only a couple of washes.
H&M is good too, but more for outfits rather than basics.

SarahTancredi · 06/06/2019 07:15

Having recently popped into primark, unless you want to choke on your own vomit amongst bases of sequins and neon pink I'd take thee to new look for the sale or sainsbury or something.
