Do you think she likes having him visit or do you think this will be the toughest week of her 93 year long career? (Bar maybe the blitz).

OP posts:
Longtalljosie · 03/06/2019 12:55

She really liked the Obamas so...

Pootles34 · 03/06/2019 12:57

Sure she hates him, but it's her job to be diplomatic and be neutral, I'm sure she'll be fine. She's also used to Phillip and some of the stuff he comes out with...

Pinnacular · 03/06/2019 13:00

Her brooch will tell us soon.

I'm sure she has met some awful people during her career - he is just one more. It's not like she has to spend huge amounts of time with him - just a couple of very formal, stage-managed meetings. Lunch and a state banquet , that's all I could find on the programme. I doubt that she will find it as tough as you might think.

PinkHeartLovesCake · 03/06/2019 13:19

No I don’t think it will be the hardest week of her life!

She’s having to meet someone she doesn’t like for what is basically her job, we’ve all done that haven’t we?

GCAcademic · 03/06/2019 13:20

I think the photo with the dog bowl on his last visit said it all.

Southwestten · 03/06/2019 13:27

She’s had to put up Mugabe and the Ceausescus. Apparently before the Ceausescus came the palace was warned to lock up the silver and other valuables as either the Ceausescus or people from their retinue had stolen things from wherever they were staying during their state visit to France.

mateysmum · 03/06/2019 13:28

I think she's played a blinder. At 93, she's palmed off all the bits that require walking onto Charles. He did the meet and greet and the honour guard. Mrs Queen just shook hands and then she smiled as he walked away with Charlie.
I also think Trump will be on his best behaviour a low bar admittedly as he rather admires the monarchy.

OhMyGodTheyKilledKenny · 03/06/2019 13:30

I can imaging her referring to him as "an odious little man" but doing her duty (albeit in as brief a way as socially acceptable within those circles)

Bravelurker · 03/06/2019 14:02

My cringe gland has already ruptured and I fear the pain will only get worse, so I'm going to try and stay away from any Trump flavoured nonsense.

floraloctopus · 03/06/2019 14:11

The Guard of Honour were very restrained weren't they? Grin

UrsulaPandress · 03/06/2019 14:12

I'm sure she will be fine.

GiantKitten · 03/06/2019 14:13

I’d love to be a fly on the palace wall after Trumps have departed Grin

howwudufeel · 03/06/2019 14:14

Trump said he regretted not ‘nailing’ Diana. I am not the biggest fans of the Royals but they are demonstrating why a constitutional monarchy sometimes has its advantages.

lunicorn · 03/06/2019 14:17

She's seen a lot in her time. It may even be that he's not the most offensive person she's ever met?

CassianAndor · 03/06/2019 14:20

Kindergarten why do you think meeting Trump will be worse for The Queen that meeting the president of China? Who is in charge of a pretty evil regime with an appalling human rights record. Do you think the Queen preferred meeting him to Trump?

NotAgainKen · 03/06/2019 14:20

I think HM's doing her duty merely by allowing people to speculate on where she's putting Trump on the Scale of Fucking Awful People The Queen's Had To Have Round for Tea.

NotAgainKen · 03/06/2019 14:22

"And, dear Mr Trump, as a terribly special honour, my husband has offered to drive you to your next destination in his Range Rover..."

pigeonscooing · 03/06/2019 14:23

How do I think she feels?

Presidents come and go, but she is the Queen Grin

Halimeda · 03/06/2019 14:24

Trump said he regretted not ‘nailing’ Diana. I am not the biggest fans of the Royals but they are demonstrating why a constitutional monarchy sometimes has its advantages.

This makes no sense. It's perfectly possible to have an inexpensive, democratically elected head of state who isn't an offensively misogynistic, xenophobic warmongering Twitter addict. You don't need a hereditary monarchy to avoid Trump.

Jamai · 03/06/2019 14:24

Loved Mrs. Trumps outfits.

Halimeda · 03/06/2019 14:25

And I can't imagine the queen gives any visiting HoS much thought either way. After all, she's specialised in saying nothing for her entire reign.

howwudufeel · 03/06/2019 14:25

Halimeda You clearly know nothing about international diplomacy.

Halimeda · 03/06/2019 14:32

Halimeda You clearly know nothing about international diplomacy.

And your argument for the queen being a key figure in the negotiation of key treaties is that you really, really liked The Crown? Hmm
