Baby drinking coke from a bottle

papergate · 01/06/2019 22:00

Saw this earlier and was horrified!

Baby maybe just over a year old crying in pushchair.

Mum gets bottle of full fat coke out from under the pram, fills up babies bottle and hands it to the baby.

I honestly cried when I saw the baby guzzling down the cola like it was milk.

How can anyone think this is acceptable?

All coke is fat free - do you mean full sugar coke?

Obviously it’s not an ideal drink for a baby/ toddler but you don’t know anything about that situation. Maybe it was a one off because she’d run out of anything else, maybe the baby had been crying all day and the mother gave in by giving cola as she knew it would placate the crying but also that not much would be drunk (drinking fizzy drinks from a baby bottledoes not usually work well as the sucking creates loads of fizz and sort of gets stuck in the teat so I doubt the baby actually managed to drink much from it), maybe it was black currant juice disguised as cola to fool the baby. You don’t know any background so it’s not really your place to judge.

And even if the baby is regularly being given cola it’s hardly something to cry about. You know there are babies going through much worse across the world?

Be careful of the tea comments....

I partook under my old username on a tea given at nursery thread and it was a free for all 😂😂😂

Oh ... my baby has the odd sip of tea. Is someone going to cry? Is it that bad??

I don't cry no. But I will judge someone willingly giving their baby caffeine. Although I'm sure people will be along to defend their right to give their kids it because it can't possibly be as bad as coke. Hmm

mistletoeandneatvodka · 01/06/2019 22:21

All my kids had tea as little ones but can’t say I ever gave them coke. If I saw it, I’d definitely do a double take but I wouldn’t sob into my pillow about it.

Oh for god’s sake. It is shitty parenting. It is rubbish. All these people making excuses, you know it’s really not good enough.

As for tears, perhaps the OP sees it as more than coke. She knows that this child’s parent is at best clueless, or at worst, neglectful. She’s sad for what the coke most likely represents.

Onceuponacheesecake · 01/06/2019 22:25

"Full fat" coke?? Coke doesn't have any fat in it.

Anyway not ideal to give a kid, no. But hey you only saw a snippet of their day.

Sparklingbrook · 01/06/2019 22:25

Good lord. Assumptions and reading between the lines ahoy!

@EchoLimaYankee you are spot on.

To all the posters asking did i cry? Yes I did. I cried a lot for that poor baby drinking that caffeine, sugar loaded crap. Her milk teeth decaying from the coke lying in her mouth.

I cried for the life she is going to have.

@Yeahyeahyeahyeeeeah that upsets me more than you can ever imagine, I'd think before you say that to anyone again as I found your comment extremely offensive!

I was the youngest of 6 kids living in my household, 2nd youngest was 6 years older. I used to get given juice in a coke bottle when I was a kid, amongst other substitutes just to appease me. You don't know what was in the bottle. Even if it was "full fat" coke, I'm sure the child will live. It's shitty, but not worth crying over. Jesus. There are far worse things going on in the world.

TrixieFranklin · 01/06/2019 22:31

OP are you okay?

Macca84 · 01/06/2019 22:32

Oh, the drahmzz!!

Abibranning · 01/06/2019 22:32

None of us are perfect parents, if that's the only mistake they make, I know for a fact they are better than me, but I try.

Bringonspring · 01/06/2019 22:32

That is pretty shocking, it might have been the only thing she had but I’ve watched my children take a sip of a fizzy drink (the uncle who thinks it funny) and because their not use to it they did screw their faces up. So if the one year old did drink it quickly it is probably an indication they’ve had it before (an assumption)

I’m my not yet 2 year old loves sweets though which is shocking parenting also (older brother etc)

Just here for the Sistine chapel comments

Macca84 · 01/06/2019 22:34

OP I hope you never watch the news if you're "offended" by someone bringing up real-life facts. Get a grip.

FunInTheSun2019 · 01/06/2019 22:34

@TheBrilloPad 😂😂😂😂😂

I wish with every bone in my body, it's the same OP!!

Arabuella · 01/06/2019 22:35

Oh FFS, did you wail really loudly too? 🙄. Did the child have a Greggs sausage roll too?

TheCrowdSayBoSecta · 01/06/2019 22:35

My baby thoroughly enjoyed a slice of orange and a piece of strawberry out of my pimms today... coke from a bottle though, I'd cringe at that... crying would be a few steps too far. Honestly none of your business.

papergate · 01/06/2019 22:37

I'm surprised at how many of you find this funny. Guess it goes to show the generation of today. Very worrying!
