To the lady in aldi this afternoon

To the lady in aldi this afternoon, who complimented my son on being helpful and polite, thank you.

What you don't know is he has asd and adhd, that he's having a really hard time as he's not allowed on the school residential on Monday due to his issues (whole other thread), that he'd had a huge meltdown before we left that was spectacular even by our standards, that he's coming to terms with the accident that left his dad permanently disabled and has left him angry at the world.

You won't have realised how much we needed that small bit of positivity in our lives right now. I had a little cry when I got in.

On the small chance you're in here. Thank you.

Lovely!

When I worked in hospitality I always made sure I complimented the well behaved children.

Well done to your DS. He is a star and you can tell him that lots of people think so.
And well done to you too for helping him to become a polite and helpful member of society.

That’s lovely. It really does make a difference.

We were in the middle of big problems with ds which resulted in him being asked to leave his selective school (they wouldn’t make any accommodations for his asd). Then one day I happened to pop in a tiny local shop I never go to but he used to go in to buy slushes. The woman in there saw him waiting outside and said to me. Is that your son, I have to tell you he is the most polite & helpful young lad. He comes in here and is so lovely. It really made my day.

What a fantastic reminder of how far a little kindness can go. It takes seconds and costs nothing. Priceless.

looondonn · 01/06/2019 20:08

This is remarkable

He sounds like a fine young gentleman

Sorry to hear about the trip next week

WanderingTrolley1 · 01/06/2019 20:09

That is so lovely to hear. That encounter will never be forgotten Flowers

@katiemay12, I don't think anyone here would be able to give you truly helpful medical advice. Have you tried phoning NHS 24? Or maybe post a thread on the Conception board for advice

What a great post OP and a timely reminder to the rest of us that kindness costs nothing and can make a mum or DC’s day.
