Materialistic things that make you happy

So ruling out children, partner, family, health etc...
What can you buy that makes you genuinely happy to be alive.

Mine is my convertible. It’s old and cost less than a grand but there is something about traveling in the fresh air at speed that is marvellous.

Second is a Caesar salad. No idea why but it cheers me up and fills me up.

I don't care about "things" in general, but I do love to be able to purchase quality meats and seafood. I love to cook and I love to provide my family with a delicious meal! Of course, I love to eat the meals, too!

Saavhi · 28/05/2019 23:11

My new mattress and posh sheets.

Cherrysoup · 28/05/2019 23:12

Shoes. I’m a bit obsessed.

peachgreen · 28/05/2019 23:13

SolitudeAtAltitude · 28/05/2019 23:14

My house and gardens. Bliss!

SrSteveOskowski · 28/05/2019 23:15

Shoes and nice stationery.

InDubiousBattle · 28/05/2019 23:22

Hosting. I love having friends over for food and drink. There were (many)times when we were younger that dp and I were truly skint and it still feels like a bit of a treat to not add up the cost of things in the supermarket, it feels great to lay on a spread for our mates and family.

Bumbalaya · 28/05/2019 23:25

Cashmere jumpers 💕💕

Soola · 28/05/2019 23:27

My steam pod and clothes from Zara.

mommydragon · 28/05/2019 23:40

My car... I am genuinely grateful for it every single day... And it has been a good runner since we got it.

Catchytune · 29/05/2019 00:07

Yes to all of these.
Genuinely wondering about women years ago. I think horses might have provided the same feel as a convertible but sheets.. most people had straw or beds back in the day, Did they even think “ buying” happiness was a thing? It was hard to buy anything, like paying bills today.

Back in the day, personal «happiness» / fulfilment, not least through the purchase of stuff, etc didn’t really exist and wasn’t considered very important. It has been invented to sell us stuff, by making us «unhappy» to not have xyz. Status Anxiety by Alain de Botton is a good read.

HappyEverIftar · 29/05/2019 07:12

I travel a lot and in doing so, have reached a membership level whereby I can utilise departure/arrival lounges, fast track security, first boarding etc. It makes such a difference to the travel experience, I love it!

Another one for buying what you like in the supermarket without having to check costs. Living on £5 a week as a student is etched onto my brain and I don't take my current situation for granted.

GeorgiaGirl52 · 29/05/2019 07:13

a Shih Tzu puppy - the only love money can buy!

A visit to the garden centre to buy new plants for the garden .
Leather gloves in winter .
New clothes pegs make me unusually happy . The day I discovered minky ones was a good day.
Fillet steak .
A new book to read , doesn’t have to be brand new .

JoJoSM2 · 29/05/2019 08:32

Candles, jewellery, stuff for the garden.

BarbaraofSevillle · 29/05/2019 09:06

My kindle. I'm not at all interested in gadgets, but it's the one 'tech' thing that I can't live without and if it broke, I would replace it the same day.

Also being able to keep the cupboards and freezers full with whatever food I like, which I'm trying to cut down on because there's just so much stuff, there's only two of us and neither of us actually eat at home that much. But I just like to wander round the supermarket picking up the 'that looks nice' things. Or dropping into M&S to see if there are any good reductions.

Hollowvictory · 29/05/2019 09:09

Expensive holidays

soulrunner · 29/05/2019 09:18

Business class travel, although I'm going to stop doing that because of the planet.

Good rose (I know the wine snobs say there's no such thing but they're sooo wrong Grin)
Paige/AG jeans
Gel pedicures
Gym membership/PT sessions
Uber
Bubble Tea
