Materialistic things that make you happy

So ruling out children, partner, family, health etc...
What can you buy that makes you genuinely happy to be alive.

Mine is my convertible. It’s old and cost less than a grand but there is something about traveling in the fresh air at speed that is marvellous.

Second is a Caesar salad. No idea why but it cheers me up and fills me up.

I really appreciate my Pret sandwiches and drink on days I commute

I'm very easily pleased

Dowser · 29/05/2019 09:37

My ipad
Top of the range at the time and cost a small fortune but it’s the gift that keeps on giving and in 3 years I’ve not even used half of its 128g of storage despite having 7000 photos on it
Also love my iPhone too
And my 38 by 12 feet static caravan at the edge of a muddy field in N Yorks
Absolute bliss
Good quality dark chocolate
Good food
Winter holidays in the sun
Being able to afford good health products
Not bothered about anything else

BoogleMcGroogle · 29/05/2019 09:43

The luxury of ( pretty much) being able to afford to do the things we want to do. Exhibitions, meals, festivals.

Especially travelling with our kids. We've been all over the UK and as they are getting older have started to visit more distant and exciting spots. Next year, we are off on an Aussie/ Asian adventure. I know that we'd be a happy family whether we travelled or not, but it keeps us adults fresh and I think it's really good for children to know that there's a world beyond their doorstep.

My insanely fast and wonderfully shiny car and box fresh trainers, no I'm not a teenage boy 😂

Raera · 29/05/2019 09:51

Nice perfume
Makeup, mainly my Korean bb cream that makes me look a bit sleeker
Decent homemade food

My house - it’s a big 5 bed looking across countryside. We’ve only just moved in and I’m thrilled knowing this is the forever house (well until I’m old and need single storey living)! I love watching the sun rise and wildlife.

I’m not particularly materialistic elsewhere & I’ve sacraficed to save for the house. I’ve still had the same car for 10 years, shop at Aldi, don’t buy loads of clothes, saved every month. Now I’m in I can spend more but it’s hard being frivolous!

The only other small luxuries are regular take away coffee, decent wine and candles. These all make me very happy too 😀

Bezalelle · 29/05/2019 10:47

Treating myself to a couple of magazines at the station when I'm on my way home from visiting DP.

My camera and lenses. Very expensive but makes me very happy :)

Finding useful little bits to improve our camping life.

Finding comfortable yet non-minging summer sandals, ooooh orgasmic!

My Kindle. The Fire stick - just watched the third season of Sneaky Pete, fantastic.

Zampa · 29/05/2019 18:05

My gym membership. Good health, endorphins, being able to eat what I want and looking better in clothes are all fabulous.

Yes, I could exercise for free but I need to be "motivated" by a coach!

fairweathercyclist · 29/05/2019 18:12

Today I spent £30 on an Origins moisturiser as opposed to my perfectly good and very effective Superdrug one which costs about £3.99.

It will bring me pleasure to use it even though it is no better than the cheap one.

But sometimes it is nice to have a treat.

mbosnz · 29/05/2019 18:16

Recently bought a second hand caravan. I love it so much. We’ve taken it away a lot already, and I love sitting in it on the drive and working/reading/mumsnetting.

My own little house on wheels! That’s the best thing ever.

Hpilikecraft

I know the feeling
We are at our caravan with two of our grandsons. Boiler has packedinso no central heating or hot water and pouring down outside
We took a vote on staying here or going home and am pleased to say

We are stopping!
Disappointed in the weather though..too hot on Thursday to do much and too chilly and wet to go to the arboretum or Shakespearean village

Sad as there’s not going to be many moments like this.
Eldest is 16 and has a weekend job. They just didn’t need him this weekend

blummin British weather

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 27/07/2019 13:13

MacbookAir - just a really lovely looking and feeling piece of metal!

Im not remotely materialistic but do love my expensive watch and my aerolatte milk frother!

Nonstopbuttmachine · 27/07/2019 13:28

My gel nails. They cost me €30 every three weeks (my only extravagance) but I don't care; they make me so happy looking at them every day. Strangers compliment on them too Grin

I love treating my cats to decent food twice a week, their little faces when they tuck into fresh salmon and roast chicken Blush
