Reusable sanitary products

Evening all! I’m desperate to start using reusable sanpro but I’m utterly bewildered by the choice on line.

I’m sure this has been asked before but I’ve also struggled to find a dedicated thread for it.

Please can you share recommendations so I can narrow down my options?

I’d like panty liners and pads for heavy flow, and I need a bag to store them in!

Thank you Smile

I use cheeky wipes minky ones. They are fine for night time use, but I've found them a bit bulky for day time use under clothes. I haven't tried any other brands. Have you looked into period pants?

StitchingMoss · 28/05/2019 19:02

I don’t think period pants would work for me - my flow is so heavy I don’t think I’d ever trust them. I’m quite big as well and I don’t think they ever size this stuff well for larger women.

Have you ruled out using a mooncup or other brand? I had really heavy periods and it was amazing!

I use the moon cup and isme visme pads on lighter days.

icebearforpresident · 28/05/2019 19:09

I switched to a diva cup a few months ago and am cursing myself for not having switched years ago. I tried a mooncup pre kids and could never get the hang of playing it but had no problems with the diva cup which seems to be softer than I remember the mooncup being. For the first month I used a pad as well as I was nervous about leaks but never ever had an issue, not even a spot.

KurriKawari · 28/05/2019 19:14

Great advice on here. My periods just seem to be getting heavier and heavier as I get older and the amount of waste is awful. Going to Google diva cup and moon cup.

Ylvamoon · 28/05/2019 19:15

Moon cup and period pants? I also use bamboo charcoal type pads for weaker flow days. I found them on Amazon last year, so far, so good. They come in different sizes, only problem is, they are not very good for night time as they tend to move a bit. But that could be just me.

MsTSwift · 28/05/2019 19:15

Used mooncup for 12 years. It’s fab

MuddledUpAgain · 28/05/2019 19:17

Honour your flow reusable pads are lovely. They also come in lots of different sizes. The owner is really helpful as well if you have queries.

Outofinspiration · 28/05/2019 19:20

I have just started using a mooncup and it's a fucking revelation! I know the novelty will wear off but at the moment I look forward to my period so that I get to use it instead of tampons 😂

greathat · 28/05/2019 19:21

I use a moon cup and pads from honouryourflow. I tried a few types of pads inc the cheeky ones but found they moved around too much. Hyf ones are more expensive but really good. I've converted lots of people now. If you follow them on Facebook they regularly have happy hours with 20% off

MayorPrentiss · 28/05/2019 19:23

I use the tulip cup - really wasn't sure cups were for me but got a deal a couple of months ago and am a total convert now! I also use the cheeky wipes period pants as backup and on less heavy days. Having a waste free period feels really good!

Socksontheradiator · 28/05/2019 19:24

I use bamboo charcoal sanitary pads. I have 4 daytime size and 4 night time ones. I find them comfy and absorbent. Better for night time than always long ones. Got them from Amazon. Am also very tempted by 'fluffy willows' who has a page on facebook. I will never go back to disposables.

VisionsofJohanna · 28/05/2019 19:25

I use a Mooncup and cheeky wipe pads overnight as can’t sleep with it in (no idea what’s wrong with my brain). I also have a couple of pairs of Thinx period pants which are fab for lighter days (and of course can be worn with mooncup)

ASqueakingInTheShrubbery · 28/05/2019 19:36

I started with a cheap EBay bundle from Honour Your Flow. They're fine but I've got some prettier ones now. I really like Moo's, on Facebook. I slightly know the lady from a baby group a few years back. She makes the pads on an old hand-operated Singer sewing machine. They stay put and are comfortable. I've also got some good ones from Red Queen Cloth on Etsy.

Toodleoopuddle · 28/05/2019 19:43

Honour your flow are the best I've tried, also love my mooncup

moofolk · 28/05/2019 19:50

I use Angel padz (awful name) and a ruby cup sometimes.

On earthwisegirls.com (another awful name), you can compare the sizes of different pads.

KurriKawari · 28/05/2019 19:57

Can I ask those who use the reusable pads, what do you do when out/travelling/at work? Do you just roll them up and put in your bag? Doesn't it smell?

PatchworkElmer · 28/05/2019 20:00

Kurri I have a bag with 2 compartments- one for clean pads, one for used. They have poppers so you can roll them up and seal them. I don’t notice a smell when I open my work bag.

Gintonic · 28/05/2019 20:05

Could I jump on and ask whether anyone can recommend something for very very light bleeding, a reusable version of a panty liner? I have some good hyf reusable pads but since getting a Mirena coil they are overkill as I barely bleed now. Thanks!

emmaluvseeyore · 28/05/2019 20:05

I have a bag to put mine in. I fold them up and pop them in the “wet” section of it (it’s not wet but it’s a waterproof bit of the bag). They don’t smell. If I’m on holiday I have a Tupperware lunchbox reserved just for them that I soak them in and then bring them home to wash. If I have a washing machine then I’d wash them as if I was at home. I can’t use disposables as they give me thrush and I have gynae issues that mean I can’t use a mooncup.

Olissa8 · 28/05/2019 20:19

Another vote for Honour Your Flow, they are lovely and comfy. A cup is cheaper than a good stash of reusable pads, but I just can't get on with one (tilted uterus, practice nurse says my cervix is "wonky"!)
The HYF ones come in a good variety of sizes, both absorbency-wise and size of woman Grin If you buy a "starter pack" of different ones you get a little bag for carrying them out and about and a mesh bag for washing them.

KurriKawari · 28/05/2019 20:21

Thank you this has been really useful! Been having an awful time with my periods lately and GP has put me on medication. Need a period support group!

fairynick · 28/05/2019 20:24

Divacup all the way! Picked mine up from Amazon and wish I'd done it at age 11 when I started my period! May be difficult at first to find the right fold or position but just wear a pad until you get it right and your sound.

yellowsun · 28/05/2019 20:24

I’ve recently got a moon cup and have managed it from day one. It’s great!
