Reusable sanitary products

Evening all! I’m desperate to start using reusable sanpro but I’m utterly bewildered by the choice on line.

I’m sure this has been asked before but I’ve also struggled to find a dedicated thread for it.

Please can you share recommendations so I can narrow down my options?

I’d like panty liners and pads for heavy flow, and I need a bag to store them in!

Thank you Smile

I got a starter kit (I think the company was Weenotions?) - 6 different pads do a combination of sizes materials and shapes. I figured it was a safe way of finding out what I liked and more importantly didn’t - not everything works for everyone! There is such a wide range out there now I figured I’ll just look for bargains when they pop up and experiment to find something that works best for me.

Then I bought an organicup, and I was so nervous but I’m already feeling more confident with it. So basically I will use that mostly but with cloth pads as backup.

I’m strongly considering getting some of the pants though, for night time, as when I do wear pads overnight they tend to slip Hmm

Wow, thank you everyone! I also have a tilted cervix so not sure about mooncup (I could never manage a contraceptive cap - is it the same?) but I might order one and try it.

Right off to Amazon to ensure my next period is environmentally friendly Smile

There is a survey on the internet somewhere to compare menstrual cup brands to try and get the best fit. They sit much lower than the cap though!

Imse vimse and Charlie banana and a few randoms here. Tbh they all do the same thing, just get a few different brands to start with!

Cagliostro · 28/05/2019 21:06

I have a tilted uterus, I was worried about the cup (induction of labour was a nightmare all 3 times because it was so hard for them to get to it) but it was fine. It’s quite high as well. But I found it easier to put in while sitting on the loo rather than standing as the instructions said, no idea if that’s relevant

@Gintonic HYF do panty liner types?

OP if your periods are heavy, if recommend the Honour your flow pads. You used to be able to get 10% off quoting mumsnet. My biggest pads are huge but then my periods are ridiculously heavy. They do all manner of size variations.

cleanhousewastedlife · 28/05/2019 21:08

Eco femme are great too and are a charity who also give pads to girls where they make them.

lucysmam · 28/05/2019 21:18

@StitchingMoss thanks for starting this thread! Dd1 has expressed an interest in re-useable sanpro (after being surprised it even exists!) so we can have a look at some of these brands together and pick some for her to try.

Gintonic · 28/05/2019 21:32

Ah ok, cheers @nottalotta and thanks op for a useful thread.

I use pads from hey girls because they do 'buy one give one' and they come with a wet bag, but I've also bought them singly from etsy in various sizes to see how they wash before I committed to lots from one seller.

StitchingMoss · 28/05/2019 21:46

Ah you're welcome - I'm slowly working through all my plastic use and this was next on my list!

I'm hearing more and more about mooncups and reuseable sanpro and thought it sounded such a brilliant idea. I have a very short cycle and heavy flow so god knows how many pads/tampons I go through Sad.

I bought some from amazon (seller was YIGO) to try out with the intention of wearing them at home but they are brilliant and I wear them all the time and got some longer night ones too. I just put used ones in a lined makeup bag and you don’t get any smell.

At less than £20 for 9 I think they are a good starter pack.

stucknoue · 28/05/2019 22:09

Mooncup or similar plus period pants I found good for my DD's, I still use tampons plus period pants because I'm probably about to stop (I think good news?) so didn't want to spend the money, I'm so light now

I use Red Queen Cloth. She's on etsy and facebook. She does panty liner type ones as well as super ones for full on flooding. She's got lovely fabrics and is really helpful when working out what ones you might need.
