Scandi style - we don't have design furniture galore (lighthearted)

Inspired by a thread about kids clothing Scandi style.
I was just wondering if anybody knows how Scandinavians live in real life?

Do you think that we all live as shown in magazines or what do you think is specific to our ways? Btw I'm Danish 😀.

You live like it looks in magazines. Thats from the 4 scandi airbnbs ive stayed in. So jealous, it all looks so beautiful

BollocksToBrexit · 28/05/2019 12:32

I'm Swedish, living in Sweden (grew up in the UK) but I don't think I got the 'Scandi style' memo. Sorry for letting the side down. Grin

Ticklingcheese · 28/05/2019 12:34

Yet, if you tell anyone uk based that anything but white walls are a big faux pas, they think we are cold and boring 😁.

I don't have any white walls. My living room is bright pink.

Ticklingcheese · 28/05/2019 12:37

bollocks i think there is a big difference between Swedish, Norwegian and Danish stile. Lots of Scandi furniture promoted is danish1950 design. Have family in both countries.

Oh bollocks pink walls? Hang your head in shame. Next you will say you dont have a rug under your dining table

BollocksToBrexit · 28/05/2019 12:41

I actually don't have a rug under my dinning table. I did consider it once upon a time but I'm too fat to slide a chair in if the floor is carpeted. That and DS drops half his dinner on the floor still and I can't be arsed with cleaning one.

BollocksToBrexit · 28/05/2019 12:41

I do have lovely wooden floors throughout though,

Ticklingcheese · 28/05/2019 12:44

bollocks you must be uk infected then 🤣. Love wooden floors though.

I have all white walls.I find it easy to mix and change throws, rugs etc.It also covered up the 'Dusky Plum' and shit brown walls here when I first moved in.Didnt know this was a fashionable move.

Ticklingcheese · 28/05/2019 14:00

hotter oh you are in luck, throw in some birch and blue and when you surroundings complain about boring colours tell them you are just being fashionable 😁.

Ticklingcheese · 28/05/2019 14:04

Homemade and home designed scratching post on birch, don't say anything I'm very proud of it 😁.

Ticklingcheese · 28/05/2019 15:07

rubber well, thank you. I decorate with the whatever makes me happy concept 😀.

I'm sure yourdog will love it, not so sure your carpet will (if you have one) 🤣.

OP posts:
RubberTreePlant · 28/05/2019 15:22

Just teasing. I really do like it. I'd furnish this place with lumps of driftwood, if i didn't have the dogs.

Do you have doilies in 'real' Scandanavia?

Ticklingcheese · 28/05/2019 15:28

Rubber 😁

Yes we do have doilies, though I think, they are quite out of fashion.
Both paper ones you can buy and crocheted ones. My dgm made some, I think. I might have thrown some out at a time 😊.

Ticklingcheese · 28/05/2019 15:30

Arrgh just looked rubber still have some crocheted ones left.

Disfordarkchocolate · 28/05/2019 15:34

Stayed in a Danish AirBnB that was a family home and it was all white walls, Ikea and wooden floors. It was lovely but not as nice as the very very expensive Danish furniture we saw in the shops.

Ticklingcheese · 28/05/2019 15:38

Exactly disford, it is very expensive. A lot of Danes do have a couple of pieces of 'old' design, but not the magazine way.
We do however, decorate very differently to the traditional uk way 😀.

And candles dotted around

Woolly17 · 28/05/2019 16:18

Depending on where your dining table is I'd say a rug under it is optional (Norwegian here in the UK ). If you eat in your kitchen - no rug needed. If your dining table is in a dining room or open plan living and dining room - yes to a rug. I also have lovely wooden floor throughout the ground floor, a runner up the stairs and due to pressure from the DH carpet in the bedrooms. He also didn't want white walls everywhere so I'm doing it by stealth.

Ticklingcheese · 28/05/2019 16:22

woolly carpets and none white walls, you have my sympathy.

OP posts:
Ticklingcheese · 28/05/2019 16:25

On second thought woolly you will get my first ever LTB, that is not a way to live, tell your 'd'h it is abusive imo 🤣.
