it's 24 pounds a month. Seriously!?

Impossible to comment without knowing your whole financial, employment and housing situation 🤔

CallyMollyMindy · 28/05/2019 12:03

Single parent
child in nursery 1 day a week at 160 quid
1300 monthly income
They won't help with housing costs

Is it because you have a mortgage, or live with family?

How much were you receiving under tax credits? Do you need to change to UC because of a change in circumstances?

Do you own or rent ?

Gingerkittykat · 28/05/2019 12:10

why won't they pay housing costs?

Have they included all elements correctly?

Have you handed in your childcare receipts?

Have you got any deductions?

CallyMollyMindy · 28/05/2019 12:14

I have a mortgage and they said they couldn't help with that. I wasn't receiving tax credits as I've only just separated so applied for uc and I handed in all receipts correctly

ineedaholidaynow · 28/05/2019 12:20

Don’t think they help with mortgage costs.

Will you be getting maintenance from ex or is that within your £1300?

CallyMollyMindy · 28/05/2019 12:23

I get maintenance but that is not counted towards uc. I wouldn't expect them to help with mortgage costs but maybe a bit more to cover nursery?!?

Run it through the entitledto calculator, and ask for the breakdown. It does sound a bit low, off the top of my head, I thought it would be more like £200 a month.

MyDcAreMarvel · 28/05/2019 12:27

Are you sure they included childcare?

MyDcAreMarvel · 28/05/2019 12:28

Also your work allowance will be higher as you aren’t claiming housing costs.

RubaiyatOfAnyone · 28/05/2019 12:31

Off topic, but your nursery charges £160 per day!? Or is that monthly and I'm just being an idiot?

ilovewine4ever · 28/05/2019 12:33

160 will be a month

CallyMollyMindy · 28/05/2019 12:34

160 quid is monthly. I put my costs in for April as I pay on the 1st of every month but theyve documented the cost as 17 quid instead of 160. Is this the issue?

OP posts:
CallyMollyMindy · 28/05/2019 12:34

penny the entitled to calculator said 200 a month so I'm a bit shocked

OP posts:
MyDcAreMarvel · 28/05/2019 12:41

Nursery goes off UC payment periods not calendar months.

OnNaturesCourse · 28/05/2019 12:42

I'd get it checked.

Youll have an amount that you are entitled to and this is made up of elements - for you it sounds like you should be getting a higher personal allowance, child allowance and childcare allowance.

£288 of your income is disregarded so:
INCOME - 288 = (A) amount to work with

(A) x 0.63 = (B) deductions

UC entitlement - (B) = UC payment amount.

If you know you UC entitlements and/or elements amounts I can work it out for you.

It sounds like they do not have your childcare recorded correctly, or they don't have you on the correct personal allowance.

CallyMollyMindy · 28/05/2019 13:03

my period of assessment was 28th April to 28th may so I forwarded childcare costs paid 1st may for April. That must be why?

OP posts:
Ravingstarfish · 28/05/2019 13:07

That does seem low.
It never tells me, just says ‘if you’re entitled what you will get will depend on your circumstances’ my circumstances never bloody change

CallyMollyMindy · 28/05/2019 14:30

I've contacted them and they will look into the childcare costs with their technical team

OP posts:
Gingerkittykat · 28/05/2019 15:02

The work allowance would be 503 since you have no housing costs

Peachy94 · 28/05/2019 22:15

If your assessment period was 28th April to 28th of May and you said the payment of £160 made on 1st May covered the whole of April they will only have counted the 3 days of the payment that is in your assessment period, what you get paid always relates to what your circumstances were the month previously so if you pay your nursery bill in arrears then you won’t get paid for it until next month

CallyMollyMindy · 29/05/2019 19:19

Thank you guys I was panicking lol. I pay his nursery fees on the 1st so I'll screen shot it and send it x

OP posts:
miaCara · 29/05/2019 19:25

Im nitpicking here but...
Universal credit is calculated at the end of your assessment period for each individual month. So its not £24 pounds a month - just for one month. Next month it will be recalculated and you will probably have a much different amount.

CallyMollyMindy · 29/05/2019 20:47

Yeah we've established that and yeah you're nitpicking
