Hello,

Does anyone have any recommendations for funny or serious shows that are not too violent or too sexualised. Plus are actually good and both you and your dh like?

I watch a lot of documentaries because of this but sometimes you just want a good series....I am just so bored of scrolling and scrolling.

Ideas of things I have watched and really liked:
The Good Fight - dh won't watch it.
First dates - he will watch that
Killing Eve - both liked it but a bit violent
The Romanoffs - started okay but a bit boring by the end
Mad Men - both loved it
Breaking Bad - loved it but too violent for me really. Amazing acting, stories etc
House of Cards - Haven't got on with the final season but did really like it before
Docs I like and really recommend: RBG and Losers, Salt Acid Fat Heat and Seven Days Out on Netflix

I am waiting for Big Little Lies season two to come out and Killing Eve season two.

I have Amazon, Netflix.

What do you reckon?

Patriot on Amazon.

You do need to pay attention as a lot of the humour (dark!) Is visual, but its one of the best shows we've watched in a long while.

hugoagogo · 27/05/2019 21:39

I can't be live someone said Outlander! Which is very violent and sexual imo

How about The Detectorists?

HighBrows · 27/05/2019 21:44

Forever with Maya Rudolph and the Marvellous Mrs Maisel both on Amazon prime.
The Kominsky Method was brilliant as is Schitts Creek both on Netflix.

If you liked The Good Place then watch Brooklyn 99 (Netflix) and Parks & Recreation (Prime). So good.

OldUnit · 27/05/2019 21:51

I've been entirely addicted to Travel Man with Richard Ayoade (and guests) on 4oD.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 27/05/2019 21:57

The Mentalist and Lie To Me: both on Amazon Prime.

Elementary.

Nottheduchess · 27/05/2019 22:03

Chernobyl on Sky Atlantic (Now TV). Amazing series.

VanillaLatteAndCake · 27/05/2019 22:10

Black Mirror (each episode stands alone and can be quite thought provoking albeit a bit odd!)
Mum (easy watch, amusing but you're possibly after something more?)

Heymummee · 27/05/2019 22:10

Loved Parks and Recreation!!!

thetwinkletoescollective · 27/05/2019 22:11

Thanks so much everyone who has replied - there are some shows I completely haven't heard of like Patriot and The Kominsky Method and I think New Amsterdam is right up my street.

Big Little Lies was good.

Moondancer73 · 27/05/2019 22:47

Mum on iplayer, binge watched series 1 and 2 this weekend. Also the Ranch with Sam Elliot, easy watching - Netflix I think

HumpHumpWhale · 27/05/2019 22:51

Detectorists. It's a comedy/drama about people who go metal detecting as a hobby. It's seriously brilliant, so funny and sweet and kind of innocent. Both DH and I loved it.

HumpHumpWhale · 27/05/2019 22:52

Oh, we're also loving The OA. V weird but compelling.

QuestionableMouse · 27/05/2019 22:54

Chicago Fire might work for you.

MenstruatorExtraordinaire · 27/05/2019 22:56

C0untDucku1a · 27/05/2019 23:02

Friday night dinner

Have you watched better call saul? But violent but not as much as breaking bad i dint think

Dualmum · 27/05/2019 23:03

Good girls Netflix

emmaluvseeyore · 27/05/2019 23:04

Parks and Recreation and Brooklyn 99 are great.

Black Mirror can be very violent but it depends on the episode. They're all stand alone stories so some are worse than others for violence.

What We Do in the Shadows has just started on BBC and is on iPlayer. It’s a fly on the wall “documentary” about vampires, so does have gore in it (blood sucking etc), but it’s a comedy. It’s based on a film that’s on Netflix, which we really enjoyed.

WhenIsTheEasyBit · 27/05/2019 23:05

The Good Doctor. Every episode has me in tears, but in a good way.

TwigTheWonderKid · 27/05/2019 23:05

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt

WakeMeUpWhenGoodOmensIsOn · 27/05/2019 23:06

The Crown,
Ghosts (BBC sitcom)
Taskmaster (Dave - all series available on UKTV Play app for free)
Good Omens starts on Friday!!!!!!! (Amazon)

drspouse · 27/05/2019 23:07

Quite short but we just watched the Hatton Garden robbery drama.
Not too violent as they are all old geezers!
