Kids ordering Uber eats to school...

Do your DC do this?!

We’ve had another email from the school reminding us that Dc are not allowed to order food to the school. DD says it’s unenforceable because there is a main road which runs along the school field and the kids order it to the fence!

She says loads of them do order McD etc but quite a few get deliveries from the local sandwich shop/deli or subway

Do they all have bank cards and such??

Current account with debit card from 11. By the time they are at the upper end of high school though they have jobs.

Aragog · 25/05/2019 11:30

Last year Dd and friends had a pizza
Delivery ordered to just outside school. They took it to the nearby park to eat.

Not a regular thing though. She's sixth form now and they just go out to eat.

No phone ban at DD's secondary or sixth form. Infact they use their phones sometimes in lessons, but only with teacher permission and it's be related to the work being done. There were never any issues at her secondary with them so guess they didn't feel the need to ban them.

Regular Deliveroo to the school next door, mostly McDonalds so far

Wish we'd had this when I was at school in the 70'sGrinI'd have been an early adopter - to avoid the rubbish slop we were served!

jackparlabane · 25/05/2019 11:54

I remember not being allowed out of boarding school and some wealthy girls would order a takeaway for collection and then call a taxi to collect it and bring it to us. Then more of us would chip in for extra food using the same cab.

I suppose the Uber drivers can be shown an order screen on someones phone, so they don't end up with bigger kids nicking the food.

amusedbush · 25/05/2019 12:21

We just used to walk to the high street for a chippy on our lunch break 🤷🏻‍♀️

In 6th year we had a common room which opened onto a patio so we got a BBQ. We also brought in a kettle, TV and Xbox. The teachers only put their foot down when they found us playing poker for money between classes Grin

SoupDragon · 25/05/2019 12:29

DS2 is in the sixth form and does this. There is an empty house that belongs to the school and they have it delivered there, they just wait outside 🤦🏻‍♀️

Thinkinghappythoughts · 25/05/2019 12:41

There were never any issues at her secondary with them [mobile phones] so guess they didn't feel the need to ban them.

Sorry, off topic. No - it's highly unlikely that was the reason. More like it was too much like hard work for the teachers.

nelsonmuntzslingshot · 25/05/2019 12:45

We used to have pizza in the sixth form common room. Obviously long before mobiles were common place and you’d have to go to the high street or order and wait to take it away.

lyralalala · 25/05/2019 12:49

I don't see what is wrong with a parent buying lunch for some kids on a trip?

It's unfair on the kids in other groups. That's certainly why we don't allow parent helpers to take kids for lunch or to the gift shop on trips.

Gingerkittykat · 25/05/2019 12:50

A lot of take always do cheap deals for school kids, I'm sure the signs say my local Dominos does a small pizza for about £2.

m0therofdragons · 25/05/2019 12:52

I'm 37 and we used to order pizza to be delivered to school. Not a new thing.

anitagreen · 25/05/2019 13:00

I don't see the harm it's no different from us walking down to the chicken shop at lunch time getting two wins and chips and a drink for £1.99

freshstartnewme · 25/05/2019 13:11

Sorry, I didn't realise the kids had been told no money for lunch.

Kez200 · 25/05/2019 14:26

Its quite funny. If kids are going to rebel, this sounds a fairly innocent way to go about it.

My sons sixth form college had a Pizza Hut next door and lack of finances was about the only thing that stopped it being a daily lunch. They used to go for birthdays to the buffet and work out the "value" theyd had by not eating much that day and then eating stupid amounts. It wasnt the most mature of activities but it was them having fun ad banter, and it was relatively harmless. Saved me having to cook him tea too!

hellooosweetheart · 25/05/2019 14:48

In the early naughties I used to walk down the steep hill at lunch time to buy a bag of chips. Nothing new really.

Nolar · 25/05/2019 15:01

I used to do this, we'd call an order in off the school payphone or someone's mobile when people started getting them. Few people chip in a couple of quid and we'd get it delivered to the "bush by the school fence" delivery driver would pass it through fence and we'd smuggle it in or eat it by the fence Grin

rainbowunicorn · 25/05/2019 16:22

At our school they are allowed out from S3 (13/14 year old) at breaks and lunch so can just go and get whatever they want. To the poster asking if they all have bank cards and such, well yes they do to be honest. My kids all had debit cards from 11 and I really don't police how they spend their own money. Most of the older kids have jobs so I really don't find ordering a takeaway or getting an Uber to be in anyway unusual for this age group.

freshstartnewme · 25/05/2019 16:24

I don't see what's rebellious about ordering lunch though.

rainbowunicorn · 25/05/2019 16:30

@freshstartnewme I agree, it is a perfectly normal thing for people to do. Why do people think that teenagers wouldn't want a change some lunchtimes rather than the usually revolting offerings from the school or a packed lunch.
There are an awful lot of people on here saying they are appalled, shocked about this. Why? do you never fancy a pizza or burger. Have you had a secondary school lunch lately. I have and to be honest I would be ordering takeaway as well.

speedbird55 · 25/05/2019 16:37

Dam
This thread has made me want a Uber mcD !

VioletCharlotte · 25/05/2019 16:42

It sounds ridiculous to us, but their generation have grown up with technology and being able to order anything for delivery. We used to go out lunchtime to the chip shop and the newsagents to buy fags sweets. Most school kids aren't allowed out lunchtime, so this is just the modern day equivalent. I doubt they have the money to do it every day.

MissEliza · 25/05/2019 17:14

I used to work at a private school where one kid McDonald's delivered to him every lunchtime. I thought it was utterly pathetic or the head that he allowed that.
Shame on the parents of the kids who do that. It's expensive and unhealthy.

Hecateh · 25/05/2019 19:02

'Jamie' tried to work with schools in Rotherham to ensure dinners were more healthy and they stopped giving them chips with everything.

There were a couple of mums that turned up and gave their poor deprived children chip shop chips through the railings. In a TV interview they said it was disgusting that their kids couldn't have what they liked for 'dinner'.

Hiddenaspie1973 · 25/05/2019 19:15

My dd is in year 7 and stumbled upon a group of y10 girls at the fence getting takeaway passed over the fence whilst they passed cash through the gaps 🙄
Her school is pretty shite though. Meant to be no phones but they're all on them.
