How long does it take to clean your house top to bottom?

I finally hired a cleaner after many years of saying I wouldn't. I always saw it as a bit bourgeois tbh.

DH never cleans. He's maybe hovered the carpets 5 times in 10 years.

Anyway, got a cleaner who did the whole house (3 bed 1930s house) in 3 hours.

DH came come and said the place is sparkling. I said it's because the cleaner came today. I said she did it all in 3 hours. He was surprised that it took 3 hours to clean the whole house.

When I've tried to clean the house it's taken me much longer and I miss bits.

How long would it take you to clean the house, dusting, hovering, cleaning cooler, doors and skirting boards?

No idea.
I can Dyson it in 20 mins but I've never dusted or cleaned doors.

Because a cleaner just cleans they can achieve quite a lot as they don’t start to ‘sort ‘ stuff so sounds a fair amount of time to me and once on top of the cleaning may well be less time. I speak as a cleaner

NoWordForFluffy · 24/05/2019 21:10

I could do all of that in 3 hours if I was on my own without distraction. DH would take twice as long!

Good question - the thing is that I need to tidy before I can clean, whereas your cleaner probably just cleans. My house is small but by the time I tidy, put away any laundry etc and then clean, I can reckon with 5-6 hours for everything to be done. I do not know how long just cleaning takes.

Mabellavender · 24/05/2019 21:11

My cleaner comes twice a week and does upstairs one day and downstairs the other. It takes her 3 hours each time. Big house though. I’d say 3 hours for a 3 bed house is pretty normal tbh.

rosedream · 24/05/2019 21:11

I can do the house and a couple of loads of washing in the morning I have 4 beds.

However if I'm in a can't be bothered mood it takes forever and then some.

Another however my MIL has this magic touch. She cleans and some how it looks so much more sparkly !!

Titsywoo · 24/05/2019 21:12

I do a proper clean every week - 3 bed house, two bathrooms and two very big reception rooms. It takes me 8 hours to do it! I do clean windows, woodwork etc as well and put away clean clothes. Doesn't include stuff like cleaning the oven or fridge or whatever. It obviously includes tidying up too.

LizziesTwin · 24/05/2019 21:12

Had a team in today, first time the house has been properly cleaned since completing building works. 10 hours. 5 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms and then other rooms. Not much furniture to move & only 2 carpets.

bibbitybobbityyhat · 24/05/2019 21:12

Never done it! no idea.

MustardScreams · 24/05/2019 21:13

About 5 years usually. I never do a top to bottom clean because I hate cleaning. I’ll do downstairs, take a few days to recover and then do upstairs. Obviously normal housework in between the Big Clean.

DownstairsMixUp · 24/05/2019 21:15

I have a 3 bed terraced with one bathroom and a toilet downstairs. Takes me a good five hours proper deep clean.

chipsandpeas · 24/05/2019 21:15

prob about a week the state the place is in at the moment

Pinkyyy · 24/05/2019 21:19

Probably a week. But I clean everything in and out of sight. Eg. Floor and wall tiles, in and out of fridge and cupboards, windows inside and out, under beds and sofas, perfume bottles... I'd say there's nothing in the house that doesn't get done at least once a week.

Leftielefterson · 24/05/2019 21:20

It takes me cleaner 6 hours a week to do a deep clean which includes:

• Polishing
• Anti-bacterialising surfaces and DC jumperoo/walker
• hoovering
• Mopping
• Bathrooms
• Kitchen Surfaces
• Change bedding (I strip and wash)

My cleaner will also include an additional job each week which rotates so could be:

• Cleaning out fridge
• Washing down kitchen cupboards and emptying and washing inside
• Cooker
• Washing windows indoors

My cleaner definitely does a quicker job than me

I'm am not sure as I clean everyday and wash dry and put away clothes daily. I suppose with changing beds and thorough clean all in one go - 3 hours.

Pipandmum · 24/05/2019 21:23

Titsywoo can you come do mine? I’m more with MustardScreams. I clean for what I think is an hour then look at the clock it’s only been 15 minutes but I’m fed up by then. My own room which no one sees is a tip. I do have a cleaner but also a big house. She does four hours but no way can she get whole house done. And I do tidy before she comes so she’s cleaning. She hasn’t stepped foot in my bedroom yet. That would probably take her the whole four hours. My husband was very tidy. Unfortunately my kids seem to have inherited my messy genes not his tidy ones!

boxlikeamarchhare · 24/05/2019 21:23

I think that's a good time OP. I have got four bed, three bathroom, two receptions plus big kitchen diner and I have four hours, every other week.

Doesn't include windows.

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 24/05/2019 21:23

Haven't a clue, I've never done the whole thing in one go.

NicoAndTheNiners · 24/05/2019 21:25

I also have no idea, never done it. I spend less than 30 mins a week total cleaning so I'm going with 30 mins.

I dust maybe once a year of that. Each time I do it I have to go and buy a duster as I can never find the one I bought previously. Never cleaned a door or skirting board, not sure if dh does this....they look clean.

Ratatatouille · 24/05/2019 21:25

It would take probably a full weekend to properly clean every single nook and cranny of every room. In reality, I spend about 45 mins a day cleaning and this means that whilst I am not cleaning every inch of the house every week, over the course of a month it will all be given a proper once over. Obviously essentials are done each day (worktops, Hoover, clean toilets etc).

I imagine cleaners work in the same way; completing essential tasks like dusting and hoovering on each visit and then maybe alternating other jobs that can wait longer. Or they are there to provide a regular clean of the essentials leaving you to do the less frequent jobs. There’s no way that during a three hour visit to a 3 bed house they are deep cleaning I.e. cleaning all skirting boards, cleaning radiators, cleaning grout, wiping down kitchen cupboard fronts, cleaning fridge and oven etc.

managedmis · 24/05/2019 21:26

What did she actually do? We do require a list, please.

bibbitybobbityyhat · 24/05/2019 21:27

Unless moving house I don't think I've ever cleaned for longer than 30 minutes at a time. It is the most boring thing to do, I just cannot see the appeal, even though I appreciate we are all different and have different interests yada yada.

Carpetburns · 24/05/2019 21:28

It takes me ages to clean our bog standard 3 bed. However, our cleaner does a good job in 2hours.
