Which holiday would you choose?

Just in the planning stages for a trip for next Easter. Previous holidays have all been to luxury type self catering houses in different areas of Scotland, which have been great, but fancy a change.
DC are 11,8 and 1. We have never taken them abroad before, so thinking either the canaries to an all inclusive hotel.
Or
City break to London, doing the Harry Potter studios, Shrek adventure, Legoland (I know it gets poor reviews, but DS2 is Lego obsessed!) and as many other tourist attractions as we can fit in!
Price wise they both look around the same, so what did/would your DC have preferred?
Thanks!

I live in London so it wouldn’t have been a holiday for them but they would have hated an all inclusive holiday in the Canaries as would I.

2cats2many · 24/05/2019 12:01

Legoland is ace. However, I would pick the Canaries. A week of sunshine, swimming and slushies on tap.

Pieceofpurplesky · 24/05/2019 12:03

Depends which Canary Island and where.
I would have done both and would now choose the sun every time. You will get loads of people who hate the thought of AI holidays but if you choose the right hotel and resort it is not all 24/7 drinking, pie and chips

Thanks! I am leaning towards the canaries, as I think DC3 would spend most of his time strapped in the buggy if we went with London. I know an AI in the canaries would be some people’s idea of hell, but I loved them as a child/teen- the endless slushies and ice cream, water slides and banana boats, so while it’s not my idea of a dream holiday I’m pretty sure they’d love it!

canaries without a shadow of a doubt. taking a 1yo to London is my idea of hell.

BooksAreMyOnlyFriends · 24/05/2019 12:58

AI definitely the best option. The older two will have a ball around the pool and the little one can play and nap to their hearts content.

The older ones will like legoland etc for a few years yet. Maybe you can do those as weekend breaks.

UnicornBrexit · 24/05/2019 13:01

Canaries without a doubt.

managedmis · 24/05/2019 13:03

Canaries

Harebel · 24/05/2019 13:07

Canaries is my idea of hell so I'd choose London over that any day.

pearldeodorant · 24/05/2019 13:09

Canaries

NorthernRunner · 24/05/2019 13:09

London is fun and all the attractions you listed are good, my 4yr old loves a trip into central London. However you won’t leave feeling rested. It’s full on, there are lots of people, lots of tourists and like you say your 1yr old will spend a lot of time in the buggy.
I would do the canaries

Pieceofpurplesky · 24/05/2019 17:51

@Harebel what is it about the canaries that is your idea of hell? It is so diverse from beaches to gorgeous mountain villages to barren sand dunes. Lots of shade and lots of sun?

MrHaroldFry · 24/05/2019 18:10

AI in Caries as long as you have properly researched and are content it matches your expectations. Not all AI are equal!

London is marvellous in good weather when it's not too busy but not a restful break. I work FT and long hours so I don't want to think on holidays. AI is a break from brain work, housework and cooking for me!

BogglesGoggles · 24/05/2019 18:12

You’re going to London to do what now? There are so many great things to do in London why are you torturing yourself instead?

Harebel · 25/05/2019 11:26

@Pieceofpurplesky it's the choice of all inclusive over a fantastic city holiday with no need to fly that would make me choose that.

It's not the islands themselves I object to but flying to an all inclusive resort that is my idea of hell.

BarbaraofSevillle · 25/05/2019 12:26

You can go to the canaries without doing all inclusive you know Confused

I would choose a lovely villa with a heated pool in Lanzarote, and there's loads of other stuff to do like the volcano park, caves, beach, waterpark etc

Pieceofpurplesky · 25/05/2019 12:53

The Canaries are beautiful and so diverse. I have done villas, AI, apartments - but live expiring volcanoes, sand dunes, national parks and even a rain forest!

Pieceofpurplesky · 25/05/2019 12:53

*love exploring

lalafafa · 25/05/2019 12:54

Canaries but the pools will be cold at Easter.

BlueMerchant · 25/05/2019 12:56

London and all the attractions!

needsleepzzz · 25/05/2019 12:58

Canaries! Try a Tui family life hotel, we stayed in the Tui family life bahia feliz in Gran Canaria

Drasticaction · 25/05/2019 13:26

Neither.

Too much packed into London for one trip and not canaries.

Look into efteling Holland.. it's theme park but far more pleasant and relaxing than most other parks with wonderful accmd ,bosrijk had a pool, endless natural play areas, small farm in accmd next door...

Relaxing and super fun. Combine with Dutch center parks or duinerrll.

LIZS · 25/05/2019 14:08

Not sure where you are thinking of staying in London but it would require travelling for at least 2 of those 3 destinations from wherever you are based. Not as relaxing as Canaries.

The first holiday we had abroad with the children was to Lanzarote AI.
They were 5 and 8. Now, nearly 10 years later, that is still the holiday they talk about the most. They went to a kids club 2 or 3 times a week for a couple of hours and went on treasure hunts, learnt how to snorkel in the pool, etc.

We had day trips out to the volcanoes at Timanfaya, went on a trip around the bay in a glass bottomed boat to watch the fish and went to a water park.
AI is great at that age because they can have constant ice cream and drinks on tap. Just make sure you pick a resort aimed at families so you can avoid the type of resort where people just lie around the pool all day drinking beer and eating burgers.
