What fresh hell awaits us now? She was really emotional.

As she is a woman, all the chat will now be about her emotions.

That it will. Already seen headlines such as 'it all ends in tears' Hmm

PoppyFleur · 24/05/2019 10:28

I am far from a Tory voter but I feel sorry for Theresa May. She was handed a poison chalice and tried to do her best whilst surrounded by leavers who all spectacularly failed to step up.

Politics is at a tipping point; the level of venom, personal insults and attacks levied at politicians by so called colleagues and the public at large is now too much. The average member of the general public is now an armchair expert on every topic based on once having read a tweet or a Facebook post. Everyone knows how it can be done better, yet the line of willing people to take on the responsibility seems very short.

Ultimately we get the government and society that we deserve. Which at the moment is a rather worrying prospect.

Sparklingbrook · 24/05/2019 10:29

I have just watched her speech and on a personal level I felt quite emotional for her.
People resigning their job in rubbish circumstances don't generally have to make a huge speech on TV about it.

The replacement possibilities are a worry.

IWannaSeeHowItEnds · 24/05/2019 10:29

I had such high hopes for her. And now we might get Boris! Well done Conservative party!

DominiqueSmith · 24/05/2019 10:29

*I'm a remainer, not a Tory and wasn't impressed by her attitude to Larry :) but I thought she did a fantastic job given the circumstances.

It's David Cameron who started this rot with a 'one stage' referendum.*

Me too. I totally agree.

Just when we thought things couldn't get any worse, we'll probably end up with that twat Boris Johnson as PM. Angry

Persimmonn · 24/05/2019 10:30

The sly little shits pushed her to the front and stepped back. I feel sorry for her. She did her best wrt Brexit. Whoever comes in next won’t do a better job.

Persimmonn · 24/05/2019 10:31

We need another “curse upon you” thread for David Cameron, the odious little twat.

Rainbunny · 24/05/2019 10:31

I'm seriously worried about a PM Boris, I've already read an article somewhere this morning suggesting that Boris could force through a no deal Brexit by simply ignoring Parliament altogether. I don't know if that's even remotely possible to do but it's a terrifying thought that he could even try.

IceRebel · 24/05/2019 10:32

Whoever comes in next won’t do a better job.

I totally agree.

DonkeyHohtay · 24/05/2019 10:32

Poor woman. She got the shittiest end of the shitty stick and I do really believe that she did everything she could to find a way forward.

But she had an impossible task as parliament is so divided.

If I were her, I'd be stepping down as a MP too and pissing off to the Caribbean with a "fuck the lot of them" attitude.

BumbleBeeWineGlass · 24/05/2019 10:32

Well she's better than Boris!

I have a feeling that underneath all his buffoonery he's actually quite a dangerous man playing a very clever game - he's acts the fool to get people to think he's funny, a bit of lighthearted entertainment but I bet when it comes to it he will go for no deal Brexit without hesitation.

Honeyroar · 24/05/2019 10:33

I don't like her, but I do feel sorry for her. She had an impossible job with sly back stabbers all around her. I'm scared of who gets the job, particularly of the likes of BJ, but I blame even more than DC and think he should've had to do the shit job two years ago when he rallied up Brexit.

Kez200 · 24/05/2019 10:34

She did her best. This was all Camerons doing and many of us knew there were no unicorns out there.

Who knows what will happen now as we will almost certainly get a Brexiteer leader who will do anything but lose face and power.

Mintychoc1 · 24/05/2019 10:35

I can’t imagine MPs will be lining up to replace her. The whole Brexit thing is seemingly impossible to deliver.

AFistfulofDolores1 · 24/05/2019 10:36

I was one of those who thought she'd been handed a poisoned chalice/shit sandwich - until someone pointed out to me that she was standing in line for it.

I do feel for her, though.

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 24/05/2019 10:37

Thank goodness we won't have to hear her horrendous voice all
the time! Smile

LondonJax · 24/05/2019 10:37

Speaking solely about the Brexit debacle I also think Theresa May got the shitty stick.

I do think however she's not a negotiator, played a few things with regard to Brexit far too close to 'party' rather than 'country' - like getting other parties around the table much, much earlier in the process. But that's what advisers are for - to advise. I think she actually listened to the wrong people and tried to placate the wrong people.

I'm not sure if Boris (Gove, Rabb, Ledsom or whoever now puts themselves forward as leader of the Conservatives) will get a better deal. The EU are set on the backstop - MPs don't want it. If Boris etc can manage to the EU to back down on that or get MPs to vote for it they must be putting something in people's tea. So we'll go round in circles no matter who is PM from whatever party unless they can find an alternative to the back stop or do another referendum or walk away without a deal. I wouldn't want to be that person because they'll be in Theresa May's position very quickly.

mydogisthebest · 24/05/2019 10:37

I don't like her but feel sorry for her. She was obviously emotional. She has been treated appallingly by her own party.

She took on a totally thankless task after spineless Cameron chickened out and tried bloody hard to do what he couldn't or wouldn't. She was never going to win was she?

I can't see anyone do a better job than she has tried to do and
God help us all if Boris becomes PM

Fatasfooook · 24/05/2019 10:38

How can anyone feel pity for someone who had inflicted such terrible austerity on our country that hundreds have died through suicide? Who’s policies attack our vulnerable, our elderly and our disabled? Who’s driven our nhs into the ground? Who has destroyed our school system? Pity?? Fuck that

Whosorrynow · 24/05/2019 10:39

Boris Johnson I fear will be channeling Trump, both have the moral compass of a feral cat, ie none
The saving grace with trump though is that he is as dumb as a rock

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 24/05/2019 10:39

I'm not a fan of TM nor any Tory tbh BUT she had a poison chalice from the start. Anyone who had taken on the job of PM when she did would have got the same I think.

WhatTheWatersShowedMe · 24/05/2019 10:40

I'm a Remainer. I think she did her best to get a deal with the EU. Dread to think what anus we'll be getting next.

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 24/05/2019 10:40

If Boris takes over I think I'm going to give up all hope of civilisation in the UK. Angry

Samcro · 24/05/2019 10:40

she will be fine. she will have a holiday and live very comfortably, unlike the poor people her party has shafted over the years,
