Looking to buy a large American style fridge freezer. Anyone got one of these?

We have an LG. Lots of room and has a water/ice dispenser. It's a dark stainless steel colour..doesn't show any marks and is very easy to keep clean! And comes with a 10 year warranty. I would recommend it to everyone!

Daphnesmate · 24/05/2019 11:26

Like that one Gett, I have put that on my list of potentials. I will go and view before purchasing.

The Haier I linked to above is a more graphite grey. I'm pleasantly surprised at how clean it stays.

I have the same one as gett and thoroughly recommend it

I have this one

No problem with it so far although it’s only a few months old.

I would have preferred the styles which have wide freezer drawers under a double door fridge, but they were out of my budget. Can’t fit standard pizzas in the freezer section in the side-by-side model I have. I knew that before I bought it though.

Daphnesmate · 24/05/2019 16:18

Haier is also on the list madsweeney, thanks for that. We have space in utility for a separate under the counter freezer. The American style fridge freezers that we are talking about, look as if they are predominantly fridge, which is what I would prefer. Our under the counter fridge is dark, antiquated and dingy and is driving me mad, this will be a real revolution, I think!

We have this one, OP.

Definitely more fridge than freezer, but still a good amount of space in the freezer side. Not stainless steel either - a very dark grey, almost black. Not a matt finish, but not glossy either.
Very pleased with it here at TuesdayHQ.

ElspethFlashman · 24/05/2019 16:34

We have a Belling. We have the type with two fridge doors but then 2 freezer drawers underneath.

We find that configuration best because we found the ones with a freezer on on vertical side was quite narrow. Apparently its a struggle to fit a frozen pizza flat. That was a deal breaker!

The fridge part is HUGE. And plenty of space in the actual doors. It's cavernous. And we find the freezer drawers amazing. You can fit loads of wide things in it. We had the turkey in there before Christmas and absolutely loads besides.

Honestly it's the best thing we ever bought. We were initially going to get a mini chest freezer also for the utility room but I don't think we need one now.

(Also we decided against a tap/ice maker. Takes up a lot of space behind the door)

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 24/05/2019 18:13

LG not plumbed. We've had it donkeys' years, it was the cheapest on the market by miles at the time. It's great but it is massive. In some ways I hanker for a less obtrusive stacked fridge freezer. I make use of every inch of the shelves though.

Almostfifty · 24/05/2019 18:15

We've a Samsung, that's plumbed in and gives us ice and water. We've had it around ten years and it's never given us any bother.

It's going to break down now isn't it?

Chewbecca · 24/05/2019 18:15

I had a beautiful rangemaster one that was really ££ (about 1500 I think?) but it broke, irreparably after about 8 years. I was v disappointed so replaced it with an inexpensive Kenwood one which appears to be doing exactly the same job. Just a bit less pretty.

Tronkmanton · 24/05/2019 18:21

A Fisher & Paykel one with full width freezer drawer. It’s brilliant- probably nearly 10 years old & no hassle ever unlike their dishwasherI like the configuration of a wide fridge rather than the traditional American style.

IJustLostTheGame · 24/05/2019 18:23

We have a beko. It doesn't have any ice cube or water dispenser in it as it took up too much freezer space.
I like to freeze everything.

GottaGetUp · 24/05/2019 18:28

Can I ask a silly question? What is the point of an ice maker in a fridge freezer? Does it make ice on demand or does it make some and store it and then dispense when you want some?

Tooner · 24/05/2019 18:31

We have an LG. Non plumbed but with ice and water dispenser. It has the storage bottle thing which we fill with water, this is in the fridge door. Even with the ice dispenser and water bottle there still is loads of room in both fridge and freezer. Bought from john lewis about 5 years ago for £800 on 2 years interest free credit which was dead handy.

PorterBella · 24/05/2019 18:40

I've had a CDA one for 4 years now - would recommend it all day long, never had any trouble with it.
Unlike the Samsung we had previously...

Two4Tuesday · 24/05/2019 18:47

GottaGetUp, it makes the ice and stores it up inside the freezer.
Our fridge has a panel that allows you to turn the ice maker on or off, and it will make the ice for you if there's water in the tank and then store it. You can then dispense it as and when necessary Smile

Secondstartothergt · 24/05/2019 18:53

It makes the ice in advance and dispenses it when you need it Gottagetup. It means you never have to remember to fill an ice tray and it’s quicker/easier getting the ice than using an ice tray.

Not sure how non plumbed in models work - do you have to regularly fill it with water or something?

Secondstartothergt · 24/05/2019 18:55

Ah, just read Tooners reply about the water tank!

sue51 · 24/05/2019 19:01

Plumbed in Samsung. I would not advise anyone who has small children to get a black one. Dgdaughter is staying with us for a few days and I've given up wiping marks while she's around.

GottaGetUp · 24/05/2019 19:05

Thank you for the answers 🙂

I am hoping there will be an American fridge freezer in my near future 😄 so trying to figure out what features we want.

TheQueef · 24/05/2019 19:18

Ours. It gets water via a small flexi pipe connected under the sink it filters inside The fridge but there is no tank. The ice is either half moons or crushed, ice has a tank so you can fill bags and it refills itself, noisily and to random schedule.

I wish you had asked for photos. I love threads like that Blush

Yogagirl123 · 24/05/2019 19:45

We had a plumbed in LG. Hated it, if I am honest, the fridge was great, but the freezer with shelves rather than drawers were a pain, also the water and ice dispenser took up a lot of space. Was hoping it would break so we could go back to an upright frost free fridge/freezer, bloody thing didn’t, so LG do last! We replaced it with an LG ff fridge freezer would never buy another American style one.

harajukubabe · 24/05/2019 19:48

Instead of getting an American style fridge freezer, I have a full side fridge and a full size freezer. Much better, more internal space
