Madonna and Eurovision... how did that happen?!

NooNooHead1981 · 19/05/2019 00:15

And what then happened?! I think the sound engineers were working overtime tonight trying to get auto tune to correct her seriously off key singing...

She was really cringeworthy and bad. Not sure I had thought she would be that bad live, although I guess at least she did sing live. Bet she wished that she hadn’t now though! 😂

@KooMoo Its part of her new theme for her album.Madame X.If you are going to come and slag her off,at least get it right

ineedaknittedhat · 19/05/2019 17:46

It's a pity satan didn't give her a decent voice for selling her soul to him then 😂

IvanaPee · 19/05/2019 17:48

@mindproject take a break, love.

Take your tinfoil hat off and have a cuppa.

Brilliant, mind. Have you come off your meds?

derxa · 19/05/2019 17:54

She looks a little bit piratety a la Little Britain.

mindproject · 19/05/2019 18:12

If I was satan I'd ask for my money back.

Very funny comments above.

RomanyQueen1 · 19/05/2019 18:17

I think we forget it's not like years ago when there were actually singers who trained and could sing.
Autotune is common practice now and when we hear what they actually sound like we're surprised.
a few years back youtube was absolutely full of them, released due to sound engineers being pissed off with their conditions.
There were a whole heap of them and it was so funny.
Main contenders GaGa, Pink, Mariah Cary, Buble, and the none surprise the orange one and KP, surprisingly enough PA sounded worse than KP and she was more than half a tone out.

lljkk · 19/05/2019 18:25

Bob Dylan. If you want to slag off ancient terrible singers & performers. He leads my list.

I didn't know any of the references at the time of M's performance last night, but even I could tell the performance was supposed to be Art.

In all honesty, I don;t think that you will find many people that rate Bob Dylan as a performer or singer. A songwriter yes but the other, hell no.

Whereas madonna is often lauded as some sort of messiah.

mouldyhousemouldylife · 19/05/2019 19:13

Main contenders GaGa, Pink

Not sure if you're saying otherwise but I've seen enough material from both to know these are both fantastic singers, with and without autotune. Autotune can also be used for effect, I think it sounds cool when it's not used to hide a poor voice.

SmarmyMrMime · 19/05/2019 19:36

I once heard an interview with Elton John where he acknowledged the changes to his voice and that he can't replicate many of his early songs as his vocal range is now too deep. He does tend to choose his material well and adapt what he does to do a good job.

Unfortunately for Robbie Williams, his signiture song "Angels" no longer works for his voice and I have heard cringeworthy performances.

The Paul McCartney reference was probably to the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympics.

Voices change. Madonna's strength has been creating images and catchy pop music rather than a brilliant voice. A more recent "classic" such as Music would probably have worked better vocally than the older Like a Prayer.
She does look bloody amazing at 60 though!

Bob Dylan always did growl. Great songwriter, and his voice is forgivable in the genre of folk music... just Grin

AutumnCrow · 19/05/2019 19:42

She looks awfully young for 60.

FiremanKing · 19/05/2019 19:44

Dolly Parton. Still great.

1974 -

2009 -

FiremanKing · 19/05/2019 19:47

Neil Diamond whom I love has lost the strength in his voice but is still in tune

Passthecherrycoke · 19/05/2019 19:49

“I think we forget it's not like years ago when there were actually singers who trained and could sing.”

But we’re talking about Madonna, who IS a singer from years ago (nearly 40!)

FiremanKing · 19/05/2019 19:50

Tony Hadley only two years younger than Madge

MrsTerryPratchett · 19/05/2019 19:51

But we’re talking about Madonna, who IS a singer from years ago (nearly 40!)

She wasn't a singer then. she's not one now. She is a genius at making a lot from a little though. Good for her.

FiremanKing · 19/05/2019 19:52

Couldn’t find a recent one of Diana Ross but I wonder if her beautiful voice still holds up?

mouldyhousemouldylife · 19/05/2019 19:53

@FiremanKing she performed at something within the last 6 months, think it was the Grammy's. She was on stage shouting "happy birthday to me" when it wasn't for another 2 months 😂

thenightsky · 19/05/2019 19:56

mindproject Come over to our conspiracy theory thread I think you'd be most welcome.

Passthecherrycoke · 19/05/2019 19:57

I was responding to Romanyqueen post mrsterrypratcher

AnyoneButAnton · 19/05/2019 19:58

And indeed Paul McCartney and Bob Dylan are singers from half a century ago. One used to be able to sing well but no longer can, one never really could but had other talents that made up for it. There’s more to being a great rock/pop star than objective vocal quality, and I love Madge but that first song was not pleasant to listen to and not a wise choice.

I’ve never heard anyone claiming that Mariah Carey is a poor singer who does it all with auto tune. I’d be staggered if that were true.

Leolion09 · 19/05/2019 20:03

Could of been worse she could of been pulled down some stairs backwards by a backing dancer...

Greenfield19 · 19/05/2019 20:11

Was she competing or just performing?

FiremanKing · 19/05/2019 20:13

@Leolion09

A Janet Jackson nip slip would be worse than ol Madge falling down the stairs! Grin
